A lovely love story, between a deaf 18-year-old girl and a non-deaf 21-year-old guy. It's really rare to read books about the lives of deaf people or people with special needs.

  • Nara

This is a kind of story that I read when I was in primary school, without the romance of course. The writing was simple so as the plot. Really simple that I keep asking myself why did I really enjoy this short story so much? But I did. I really enjoy the simplicity of the story line and the character.

    4. Q. According to this book, a deaf women frequently feel that she lives in a different world consorted with other people. So what is a different world for you? How do you feel when you are in the world?
    A. In my case, when I take a bath, I feel that because I can forget every bad thing for me in a day and relax or make calm down myself. I feel as if my all stress is melting in water. Especially I can feel that when I go to a hot spring.

    5. I this book, there are 5 main characters, Sam a young deaf girl, her mother, Ron Sam's best friend, Jim a musician and Lauren Jim's ex-girlfriend. One day Sam fell in love with Jim who works at a shop in front of her house. At first Sam hesitated not only to speak Jim but also go to the shop by herself. However, she decided to go to the shop, and she got a contact with him. Since the day, she started to go there even if merchandise she bought was needless. She was really eager to go there. After long span, Jim noticed that Sam often went the shop. In addition, Ron's friend had a relationship with Jim. That's why Ron invited Sam to a party because Jim also attended the party. Then, although Sam acquired a deep relationship with Jim, she noticed that Jim and Lauren were boyfriend and girlfriend. Unfortunately, Lauren told Sam that she was Jim's girlfriend with cruel words. From the time, Sam lost her self-esteem, and stated avoiding him because she was deaf. However, Ron suggested many things about love or relationship. Then, she recovers herself. And...
    (My review)
When I read thus book, I was really impressed with Sam's mother act and words. She was always worried about her and encouraged to recovery her fineness. I thought whether I could become a good educator for my children in the future. Definitely, my dream is to become an English teacher, so all of becoming teachers must have skills to encourage students. In my case I'm a little uneasy.

    Discussion question:
Q1: Can you respect your mother? Why or why not?
A1: Yes, I can respect my mother. That's why when she was a high school student, she had lived in Nagasaki prefecture. However, she decided to go to the university in Gifu prefecture while working, and came to Gifu from Nagasaki. So when she was 21 years old, she had already worked as all oneself by oneself. I respect her and I can't believe that because I live with my family now.

Q2: Have you ever met deaf people?
A2: Yes, when I'm working, sometimes deaf people come to my work place as a customer. Then I talk by writing with them.

This story was suitable for my level of reading. Finally, I understood the title of this book "Different world". I liked the last chapter and the last picture:)
