Nana "Hachi" Komatsu hopes that moving to Tokyo will help her make a clean start and leave her capricious love life behind her. Nana Osaki, who arrives in the city at the same time, has plans to score big in the world of rock'n'roll. Although these two young women come from different backgrounds, they quickly become best friends in a whirlwind world of sex, music, fashion, gossip and all-night parties!
Nana K. is going home--for an awesome Trapnest concert! She drags Nana O. along, convinced that somehow Ren will sense his ex-flame in the audience. But life is never that easy, and Nana O. isn't sure if she even wants Ren back. As for Nana K., is she prepared for Trapnest to come down off the stage and into her life, or will her fan-girl attitude land her in a heap of trouble?

the gayer the scenes between nana & nana the higher the rating

Oh boy Ren is back in the picture ! I was so interested in seeing how Ren was incorporated into this volume especially because of his past history with Nana. I enjoyed it and I loved that the girls are getting much closer and they are willing to be more open with each other than before. This definitely is a timeless manga that I will continue to enjoy and I'm looking forward to seeing how the girls are going to evolve in future relationships as well as with themselves and each other. -
This has got to be my favourite book so far. I also want to use this opportunity to express how much I appreciate Hachi. She seems so genuine, and her way of thinking and problem-solving seem so true. She has embodied all fangirls, just like she did with Takumi. I really hope that nothing awful happens to her.

The more I reread this series, the more I remember why Nana Osaki is my favorite out of the two Nanas, and why my heart still aches so much for Hachi...

the art style is so amazing bro

arkkhhhh hachi youre fucking up

De mis volúmenes favoritos.
Te amo, Nana Komatsu -
I'm completely addicted to Ai Yazawa's shojo manga Nana. Nana is the story of two young women, both from small towns, who meet on the bullet train and end up moving in together in Tokyo. Nana Komatsu (a.k.a. "Hachi") is a small-town girl who has big city dreams of romance and leaving her old life (and self) behind, while Nana Osaki has come to Tokyo to try to find success as the singer of her (psuedo) punk rock band, Blast. This all sounds like pretty standard fare so far, but once you throw in copious piercings, an underage bass-playing rent boy, art school friends, non-stop smoking, all-night parties, a cute sweety gothy fangirl, a deep romance between Nana O. and Ren (guitar player for rival band Trapnest), secret hotel trysts, crazy fashion, levels of girl bonding that are off the charts, and melodramatics like you haven't seen since you stopped watching Days of Our Lives, then you'll have a better idea of what you're in for in this series.
Yazawa does a few things really well in Nana. First, she creates characters that you can get attached to really easily so that you want to follow their stories. Once you're invested in the characters, the melodrama and gossip that mounts are unrelenting. Reading this manga kind of feels just like when one of your friends hands you some delicious, and perhaps slightly malicious, secret tidbit about a friend or acquaintance, usually prefaced with the phrase "Don't tell anyone." Yazawa is also frightfully adept at deploying a battery of shojo manga techniques used for the illustration of intense emotional states (startle lines, blushing cheeks, disembodied flowers floating in the air, smile octagons, etc.). This use of a secondary emotional language in illustration works in conjunction with the melodrama in a way that's far more affective than anything I can imagine in cinema. What Yazawa does best of all, however, is to deeply imagine the wide variety of affections, desires, and types of love that can run through groups of people without trying to simplify the complex emotional relationships that result. The (non-sexual, but definitely erotic) love between Nana and Nana is given more space in this manga than even the more traditional romantic encounters between the Nanas and their heterosexual partners. The idea of "love" that has managed to drop itself into the English language is severely inadequate to describe the types of emotional attachments that Yazawa instigates and investigates in Nana — perhaps a more appropriate way to approach the relationships presented in Nana would be to invoke the numerous Greek words for love and use those varietals as a jumping off point.
For all its melodramatics and emphasis on young love and rock-and-roll, this series is hauntingly elegiac. The events told in the story itself take place in a past that's registered in the key of loss by the voice of a disembodied narrator that appears throughout the course of the narrative: "I'll still call out for you, Nana . . . no matter how much it hurts . . . until you answer me." I'm not sure what future traumatics are in store in this series, but my guess is that the series ends with the loss of something unrecoverable. Whether or not anything is gained in the tradeoff will be the point of interest to look out for.
The reason I give four stars to the series instead of five is that, as entertaining as it is, it's mostly a kind of pop entertainment. Sharply felt, deeply delightful, but finally not one for the ages. -
I can't believe how involved in this soap opera I am!
There's little hints that Nana K drops toward the end of the volumes - how this is all a flashback for her and she's telling this story far in the future.
This was a good one as the band Trapnest becomes involved with the band Blast. Or, rather, the members of Trapnest become re-involved with the members of Blast. Very complicated.
So many choices for Nana K to choose for her next love!
Silly but poignant. It's about growing up and I'm enjoying watching the show. I don't think I had nearly this exciting a time when I first moved out on my own, but I remember things could be a little crazy. -

Oh god, enter Takumi.
I appreciate how intertwined everybody's lives are. It makes things so messy and emotional! -

Aaaaaand... we're turning back right here!
All the development that supported Hachi over the last two volumes is gone as fast as bag of oreos in my hands. Do not get me wrong, I'm not saying that her behavior is not realistic or something, I just struggle to understand what was the key event that made her change her mind.
I think the main problem with Hachi is that her characterization is hiccuping "I'm not 17 anymore" well, you said it but are actually acting like it.
She went from the mentality of ana adult to the one of a kid in like three panels and I don't understand this choice. I actually don't understand at all. And to be honest, to this day I am still unaware on what is lying behind Hachi's behavior. Why did she started behaving the way she is? It's still unclear.
They try to explain it but it seems like a load of excuses aimed to hide the iceberg that hides beneath.
I am still curious though, that's the reason why I decided to go for the manga after finishing the animated series: there are no explanations in the anime and I am legitemately curious about Hachi's psychological pattern. -
Wow, Nana really is boy crazy 😅But honestly, sometimes I feel that her character reflects moments of myself- just to the more obnoxious extremes 😂😂
On the note of boys, haha I like Yasu and Nobu, and I guess Ren and Shin and Takumi. Possibly in that order 😂 *Sigh this story is cementing the idea that rockstars are bad news for the frail of heart 😭
I wonder what happens to all these characters in the end? -
The fangirl in me rejoices over this particular volume for reasons you will only find out if and when you get this far. Let's just say that it reminds me of a few fan fiction stories that I read and loved back in the day - for both Nana's story angles.
-
The beginning of the end x_X

This just keeps getting better & better. This one & the last held a special place in my heart.

Ooh... stuff is happening.
It's really interesting how this volume dove into Nana and Ren's relationship - it's messy and complicated, and I want to see where it'll go. I can't imagine it'll led anywhere good, frankly.
Despite blonde Nana saying in the last volume that she's done with boys and romance, in here she's visibly desperate to be in love. It's sort of sad, how much she wants someone who's devoted to her, and how Nana is her only real constant.
I liked the previous two volumes so much because of all the interactions between the two Nanas, but this one had a lot less of a focus there. I hope we get more stuff about them in the next volume!
3/5 stars. -

4,5/5. As the story progresses I feel more invested in this characters lives. However, I’m waiting for more things to happen independently of their relationships. I get this is a romance but I wish to see other conflicts, something more personal. Nonetheless, this end seemed to be preparing wider paths to the story.

-
well it’s all smiles and fun right now but i have a feeling a storm is a-brewing…
-

Second read (July 21, 2022):
4 stars.
I went through this a lot quicker than I thought I would. I was less heartbroken and overwhelmed this time around. I still think the ending feels so ominous and I'm not looking forward to finding out why. I still loved Ren and Nana's reunion and how they immediately fall back into their old rhythm. I like that when Ren saw Nana, he messed up (even though very few people noticed) and then bolted to call Yasu and panic about seeing Nana. I really do want things to work out with the two of them but I'm... nervous.... aaahhh.
I still wish Nana K tried to pursue something with Yasu. I think he is so mature but sweet and would be very good for her. I wish that she didn't get discouraged when she found out his ex was the lead singer for Trapnest. I also think it's cute that Nobu seems to be crushing a little on Nana K. I'm not sure if anything will happen between them but they would be a cute and hyper couple. I really don't like Takumi. I hate how Nana was just going with the hookup because she felt she was too far to back out. It just made me sad. I feel like he just took advantage of her and her admiration for him and that was just shitty and slimy.
We saw a little bit of Jun and Ryosuke and I really like seeing them and how they are almost surrogate parents to Nana K. We learn that Shoji is moving in with Sachiko.... I don't really care. I hope we don't see him anymore.
I'm officially caught up where I left off and now the rest of the series, I'm going into having no clue where the story will go.... which is very scary.

4 stars.
Oof why does this one feel like it was such a whirlwind? Ren and Nana finally reunited! It went how I expected it to go for the most part (the "I miss you so much" scene...... aahhh) and I'm excited to see what happens to them as they stay together while their bands are in competition with each other. I like the idea of Hachi having a crush on Yasu!! He's still the best and I still adore him. It's interesting that he used to go out with the lead singer for Ren's band. I wonder if they are going to ever get back together. I also liked the little moment with Hachi and Nobu getting drinks. They are so similar in these fundamental ways and seeing him start to crush on her is cute. I don't like Takumi. I don't trust his vibe or his words. I think he was just using Nana and that everything he said was bullshit. Seeing Nana realize that she didn't what to hook up with him but still going through with it and not telling Nana O or Junko because she didn't want them to think she was a slut made me so sad. All of the endings for volumes have an ominous vibe to them but this one especially does. Like Hachi saying, "Hey Nana, I totally adored you. I wanted to be like you. I still feel that way to this day. So please... sing for me one more time." Uh.... don't love what this implies..... Tbh, I'm scared to see what happens with the girls and the others. Also, I feel like there is a time jump happening at the end, since it said 4 year show. I'm a bit confused on the timeline of everything because I thought everything that's happened so far has been in the same year but someone said that it had been 2 years since Ren and Nana last saw each other.
Anyways, this was great but I'm stressed and sad... woo
