Dream Lover Reviews

First, let me say that is am very bias when it comes to short stories. I really do not like them unless they are erotica.
When I saw the title, I thought this book would be great; several short stories of erotica. I looked at the authors and contributors and only saw a couple of recognizable names. Another good sign because a lot of name authors write the kind of erotica I like in a pseudonym.
This book was not that bad, but I was very disappointed because I was expecting erotica. This book is romance stories of true love that are 15 to 20 pages in length. In romance, the hero and heroine get their cloths off in two, three, and sometimes four pages. In erotica, the hero and heroine are naked in two paragraphs, tops.
The book is full of your paranormal favorites of incubi & succubi, weres, fairies, ghost, and weather witches. Eighty percent of the sex in the book is vanilla.
If you want a lot romance in your erotica, this is the book for you. If your want porn in your erotica, this is not the book for you.
Amazon Vine Review. -
What’s your darkest desire? Your most secret fantasy lover? A vampire? A ghost? Or something more? Whatever it is that lurks deep within your heart, you’re sure to find it within the pages of Dark Lover, an anthology of fun and exciting, as well as seriously sexy stories of the paranormal kind.
Love Resurrection by Justine Elyot leads off the series with a charming yet steamy ghost story. Freya is bound and determined to get long-dead poet Lucien Mountfichet’s name known to the world at large. What she doesn’t realize is just how that’s about to happen. This is one of the more creative ghost stories I’ve read, with an unexpected sort of happy ending.
Dreaming by the Sea by Delilah Devlin is a refreshing twist on the mermaid theme. Fraught with emotional tension and erotic love scenes, Ms. Devlin manages to develop two unique characters in just a few pages, ensuring that you’ll devour this short story in one sitting.
Devil’s Food by Shanna Germain is a lighthearted and yet sexy romp in a bakery that goes by the name of Devil’s Food. When pastry chef Lire meets Fey hunk Thadeus, more than just sparks fly. Due to the fun nature of this story, all the sugar, and the hot love between the two, Devil’s Food was one of my favorite stories in this collection. Sure to put a smile on anyone’s face.
Rainmaker by A. D. R. Forte was a fascinating story that reminds me of a spiced up version of an old wives’ tale or myth from the past. Faith is full of repressed magic, and if she’s to bring relief to the parched, dry land around her, she’s going to have to step outside her comfort zone to release it. David is there to help her do just that, like it or not.
Shattered Belle by Craig J. Sorensen had me a bit confused at the beginning, however, it all comes together with quite a bang at the end. Belle is bound and determined to ensure the sanctity of her precious church while the stranger is set on only completing his task. By the end, you’ll find yourself nodding and saying, “Ahh, yes, I thought so!” and squealing with glee. A wonderfully woven story that will have you sighing with pleasure and constantly second-guessing yourself.
Living off Lovers by Kristina Lloyd is one of the more intense stories in this anthology. Desperate to reunite two long-lost lovers, Rachel and Merrick must come together in a very intimate way. Driven in a way neither understands, they find one another and simply explode with passion. Sexy, sultry, and amazing, all wrapped into one short story.
Where the Heart Is by Saskia Walker is chock-full of paranormal elements to both tease and entice the reader. Rhiannon is nothing close to what she appears and Edgar is so much more. About halfway through this one, I thought I’d missed the boat on what was happening. However, just before the end it all comes together beautifully, giving you more than just a little satisfaction.
Freeing the Demon by Sacchi Green is my kind of story! I love nothing better than when a battered or otherwise abused woman gets her revenge on the man who has done her wrong. Jayne gets her revenge and so much more. When she discovers a trapped demon in the gargoyle outside her building, her fate is changed forever and for the better. This was a very refreshing twist on revenge, and I enjoyed it tremendously.
Old-Fashioned Glamour by Nikki Magennis is a wonderfully magical take on the idea of ‘who says you can’t go home?’ Returning home after too many years away, Amy tries to move amongst the villagers in a nearly invisible haze of magic, until Scott sees right through her glamour. The faith that love endures powers this little short, bringing back together a love that was always meant to be.
Moongirl Meets the Wolfman by Alana Noel Voth is a very different sort of story. Told in the style of an adult fairy tale, you’re introduced to The Woman on the night she meets Hayden and taken on an exciting ride through their time together. This wasn’t one of my favorite stories as it was a bit odd and often somewhat disjointed. However, it is an excellent example of two forces working against one another – one half of the couple is fighting the wolf within while the other embraces it – to eventually find a way to work together in the end.
Vanilla by Victoria Janssen is a cute little story combining a scientist who likes to bake with a telepath. And this combination makes for a very sweet, very sexy result. I always enjoy when cooking and/or baking is added into a story and this was no exception. The lacing of the scent of vanilla throughout the whole story just adds flavor to an already tasty encounter.
For Humans, Love’s All About Weight by Lana Fox is that kind of story that makes you feel good, that renews your hope for the world. Hattie was betrayed by her lover and her neighbors. However, when a mysterious bird with human eyes is brought into her home, she follows her heart and ignores the instructions left to her… bringing her the joy she’s always deserved. A lovely short story that will have you smiling before the end.
Succubus Comes Home by Lucy Felthouse is one of those stories that makes you laugh at it’s little twist of fate. What happens when a succubus and incubus come together as one? Well, only time will tell, but I can assure you, it’s going to be explosive for sure! An added bonus for me was that the theme of this story was finding love with your best friend, the one you overlooked but always knew was there. This is extra special to my heart because that’s where I found my truest love.
Folly by Kate Pearce is a unique sort of story. It’s not often you find a man trapped in stone, anchored to an abandoned and ultimately condemned building. Rose was discarded by her boyfriend without a second thought, left alone, with nowhere to go. Until she stumbles upon Camalus… literally. I love when stories take a bit of the old world and mix it into a fresh, contemporary setting and Ms. Pearce does just that. You get just a taste of the old Celtic myths mixed into a world that is familiar and yet still new.
Lust as Old as Us by Madeline Moore starts out seemingly as your typical vampire meets young girl story. However, it takes an unexpected turn and leaves you thinking, “What? Why did that just happen?” I really loved this story for that very reason – it leaves you wondering just where the author is going to go next since she’s already done the unthinkable. The ending wasn’t quite what I expected, either, and really made it complete for me.
The Eye of the Pearl by Ericka Hiatt is a good old-fashioned fantasy with an erotic twist. An elf warrior has made a deal with a demon and sees no way out. That is, until Lele, the human he’s abducted from the mortal realm discovers a way. A scortching hot little story that reminds you that love will find a way to conquer all… even when the obstacle is a demon.
Thief of Dreams by Kristina Wright is the final story in this anthology and is a fitting end to a collection called Dream Lover. Victor is a fallen angel, surviving solely on the dreams of his beloved, Michelle. His mistake leads to not just his own redemption, but also to the revitalization of Michelle, who had been lost and lonely before he came and stole her dreams. A great story about love against all odds and the saving power of love. Also a wonderful end to a great group of stories.
From mermaids to succubi to vampires, the Dream Lover anthology has it all. Stuffed full of authors both new and familiar to me, I found something to satisfy every mood I might have, as well as every mystical creature I’ve ever thought about imagining. I loved how the stories all had a similar thread running through them, but were all different enough to stand out on their own. Each will grab your attention and draw you into its own world for a moment or two before returning you home again. If you’re a lover of the exotic, erotic, and extraordinary, then this is by far the anthology for you.

An anothology full of steamy, sexy and interesting paranormal stories. A little bit of everyting for everyone. All stories were at least 3 stars or better and the overall anthology was wonderful.

OMG!!! This book was soooo good!!! Filled with a bunch of great short stories!! If you like paranormal romance, you'll enjoy this HOT book!!! ;-)
-
This was pretty lacklustre for erotica. Some fics were okay, some were cringey af. The stories were all pretty bland and very much the same in tone. Not much variety despite being a dream lover theme. Not very erotic either.

Liked it.

Dream Lover Anthology has 17 short erotica stories and all has been well written. They all are hot and steamy, just the way I like it when I read erotica. What I love about this novel is the difference in species the authors use.
Of course some stories were better than others, but that is normal when you have that many in one novel. I have to say that “Vanilla” was definitely one of my favourite; I cannot use the ingredient vanilla anymore without thinking about that steamy scene.
I have to say those authors done an amazing job with these very short stories, some of them had me right from the first paragraph, and there were only three stories that I really have mixed feelings about. Maybe it’s because of the weird mechanical devices they use.
I have to say this anthology very entertainment. So if you are looking for some small hot sexual stories and love to read about different species, then this is definitely the book for you. -
I enjoy paranormal romance and urban fantasy, and I also enjoy a good, hot sex scene in a book. Luckily for me, Dream Lover fits the bill. It’s a solid collection of sexy paranormal stories: some more romantic, some more erotic, and all hot.
The Hits
The stories I liked best, in terms of storytelling blended with erotica, were “Living Off Lovers” by Kristina Lloyd, “Folly” by Kate Pearce, and “Lust As Old As Us” by Madeline Moore. “Living Off Lovers” is a strange story, told from the point of view of a woman living in an apartment building that seems to be gaining sentience. She’s intrigued by her neighbor, and finds that they’ve both been drawn into a ghostly disturbance. The sex in “Living Off Lovers” is shockingly erotic, though due to, er, certain sex acts it might not be to everyone’s taste.
In “Folly,” Rose gives in to her urge to explore a ruined old house and brings to life an ancient being. Pearce’s writing is smooth and believable, and even in such a short story, Rose is a believable, sympathetic character who is trying to get over her boyfriend’s betrayal and deal with the magic she’s awakened in the stone.
“Lust As Old As Us” isn’t a traditionally romantic story, and the love it deals with–between a mortal woman and a vampire–strays far over the border into obsession. While the love story isn’t my ideal, I was definitely fascinated by the power the woman and the vampire had over each other. The ending really surprised me. I don’t want to spoil it, but while it does have something of a Happily Ever After, it definitely wasn’t what I expected.
The sexiest and most romantic stories for me were “Dreaming By The Sea” by Delilah Devlin, “Devil’s Food” by Shanna Germain, and “Vanilla” by Victoria Janssen. “Dreaming By The Sea” was lovely and sensual, about a woman afraid of the sea whose repressed history is brought back by a mysterious visitor on her beach. “Devil’s Food” was a cute and romantic story about a baker and a mysterious, sugar-craving man (There are lots of mysterious men in this anthology). “Vanilla” is more of a snippet than a complete short story, about a telepath who finally lets someone close to her. Janssen is a wonderful writer, and I think I’m going to have to poke around and see if “Vanilla” is part of a larger story.
The Misses
There were a few stories that didn’t ring my bell. The first in the anthology, “Love Resurrection” by Justine Elyot, involved a woman summoning up a ghostly lover, a poet who sold his soul to the devil. The concept is great, but the execution left something to be desired. The happy ending seemed too pat and had me rolling my eyes. Most of the few stories that didn’t do it for me involved Happily Ever Afters shoehorned into stories about people who’ve just met. Your mileage may vary, of course, but I personally prefer HEAs that come about after character have gotten to know each other, not an hour after they’ve had sex for the first time. But that is my own personal reading quirk, and if you dig the love-at-first-sight kind of romances, you’ll probably enjoy the stories that I didn’t.
Overall
Dream Lover is a great blend of sexy stories, with something for every reader. If you want down-and-dirty erotica, you’ll find it here. If you’re looking for a little more tenderness and romance to go with that hot sex, you’ll find that, too. For me, there were many more hits than misses, and I’m glad I picked this up. In fact, I’ll probably end up re-reading quite a few of these stories. -
Dream Lover is a collection of seventeen quite short but red-hot and steamy stories, each with their own little paranormal twist. From a ghostly encounter with a dead poet to a mermaid and her lost mate, a rainmaker who just needs her man, to dead lovers reuniting through new lovers there's something for everyone.
When you pick up this collection, be sure to read the foreword by Megan Hart, which is so very well written. I love what she has to say about fantasies and how, "in fantasies, we're safe." The experience of imagining the forbidden is so tantalizing, especially when we know it can't possibly come true. She says that "darker fantasies blend boundaries of reality."
While I didn't enjoy every story—there were a couple that kind of creeped me out—there are some that I really love.
DEVIL'S FOOD by Shanna Germain: In a town filled with humans, angels and demon-kind, everyone needs a little something sweet to eat and Lire runs the bakery that fulfills that need. When a man stumbles in her door craving sugar, she satisfies his need. When he returns, she gets to satisfy her own needs. Yahoo, hot bakery sex. Even better when the guy tastes like dark chocolate with a touch of sea salt. I loved the humor in this one and the pure fun Lire has with Thadeous. Plus, there's a talking toad who just doesn't know when to shut up.
VANILLA by Victoria Janssen: Two researchers find love in a kitchen which, of course, leads to hot kitchen sex. Woo-hoo! Louisa's a dedicated researcher looking for tenure and devoting all her energies to her programs. But when she runs across Devlin, a fellow researcher, making cookies in the communal kitchen. As he goes about combining ingredients, including the seeds from a vanilla bean, she senses his sensual pleasure and, drawn in by the scent of vanilla, she makes the first move. This one was sweet, with a bit of geek love.
FOR HUMAN'S, LOVE'S ALL ABOUT WEIGHT by Lana Fox: Hettie inherits a strange bird from her neighbor, a bird that comes with only three instructions: don't open the cage, don't sing in front of him, and don't ever kiss him. Of course, she does all three and wakes up to find the cage empty and a birdman sitting at the end of her bed. This leads to a bit of flying and a balancing act in a tree and… well, it's interesting to say the least. I liked how the birdman was written to be very bird-like including molting and migrating. His devotion to Hettie is a little saccharine but, considering she saved him, understandable.
FOLLY by Kate Pearce: Rose is drawn to a crumbling old house and, once she finally gives in and goes through the gate, she finds a carving of the most beautiful man she's ever seen. And he's talking to her. Says he's been calling to her. All he asks is a kiss, which Rose gives and nearly face-plants into the wall he's carved on. Her kiss sets him free for the night (ooh, what a night!) but he can only be truly free with the sacrifice of a life. I liked this one because it was more like a legend and I'm a huge sucker for myths and legends.
Overall, Dream Lover has some great stories of lovers reuniting and finding new love, all with paranormal twists.

"Love Resurrection" by Justine Elyot
Freya had found her self head over heals for a dead poet. So she moved into his old home that is now a tourist attraction just to be closer to him. Close to him indeed, he came to her nightly finally her love gives him life but not without conditions.
This story was cute. Simple, the characters played there part and made the story work. It just didn't stand our for me. But the story was sweet and to the point a five minute read.
"Devil's Food" by Shanna Germain
Lire works at Devils Food bakery she deals with non mortals all the the time. Then one day the mysterious Thadeus showed up and awoke every cell in her body. Then just as mysteriously disappeared. Not wanting to admit she wants him to come back, she mopes about thinking of him and if he'll return for her.
This story was also short and cute. I liked the mysterious Thadeus. He was yummy. The little frog was annoying but other wise it was an enjoyable story.
"Moongirl Meets the Wolfman" by Alana Noel Voth
In the night moongirl runs across a wolf she knows just can't be a simple wolf but instead like her. He follows her home she finds her body reacts to him, she wants him. He promises pleasures she's never had before and he can tell her more about what she really is. But she is till scared of him, herself and what they are.
I liked this story it. The story was different than any I've ever read. I liked the big bad wolf parody in the beginning it was fun.
Overall, the whole anthology was good. Each story was short and unique. All focus on different aspects of love and the way different people and beings can experience it. It was a very quick and easy read.
My Rating: 3.5

"Freeing the Demon" by Sacchi Green
Jayne notices that the gargoyle outside her window is not what it seems. After it protects her from her abusive boyfriend, she'll do whatever it takes to release the demon that's trapped inside.
I'm always a fan of a story where an abuser gets what he deserves. The dark, sexy encounters between Jayne and her demon were an added bonus.
"Vanilla" by Victoria Janssen
A handsome scientist and sexy telepath use the kitchen for more than baking delicious treats.
This was one of the lighter stories in the book. Cute and steamy about sums this short up.
"Devil's Food" was another one of the 17 stories in Dream Lover I enjoyed. Yes, a big part of it had to do with the food. Dream Lover has a wide variety of paranormal creatures and different takes on love. Each short was quick to read and some are better than others. Clothes start coming off quickly and in most cases, there was more sex than actual story. Don't expect to find anything too complicated but rather a collection of tales you can just sit back and enjoy for all their smutty goodness.
My Rating: 3

Each of the stories in this anthology are about 15 to 20 pages long. I was looking forward to a good sampling of authors and some new ideas.
I got the sampling of authors...but that's about it. I read through the entire first half of the book, and then skimmed looking for stories that interested me to the end.
There is a good mix here, and I'm pretty hard to please with short stories. Most of them were written well, and just didn't resonate with me.
The 'Erotic' part of the title - well, I just have to say that throwing an explicit sex scene in a book does not make it erotic. It just makes what's not good already, even worse.
A couple of stories that did stand out as really good for me, and interested me enough to look for the author's other works.
"Devil's Food" by Shanna Germain. A woman is trying to make her way through life as a baker. When a mysterious man walks in, and demands sugar, she has no idea it's about to turn her life upside down. The characters in this one were more fleshed out than the stories before it, and the writing was solid. 3.5 stars
"Vanilla" by Victoria Janssen. A quick, sweet, hot story about two researching and a batch of cookies. I liked the longing that I felt from both characters. The writing was smooth and I plan to look for more from Victoria Janssen. 3.75 stars
"Folly" by Kate Pearce is definitely the diamond of the bunch. Rose has just been dumped - by text message no less, when she hears a voice calling to her. Coming to a tower she finds a man carved in stone telling her to kiss him. When she does, it's a fairy tale come to life. Kate Pearce wrote some fantastic characters that I'd love to read more about. There's a lovely ethereal quality to the story that make it a joy to read. 4.75 stars
Some have strong HEAs which I found harder to believe than the ones that left them more open. That's an entirely personal thing though as I find a forever after to be believable when characters just meet. There are some stories though that it works really well in. And a lot of the other stories employ a happily-for-now ending, which is more satisfying for me in these cases.
All in all, if you're looking for a collection of quick reads, of varying degrees of paranormal and erotica, then this is something to check out. Most of these left me uninspired though. -
Everybody has erotic dreams, right? For many of us those dreams are best enjoyed when a healthy dose of romance is stirred into the mix. Romantic erotic fantasy helps us get through the mundane realities of day-to-day life and sometimes inspires us to spark up the everyday in surprising ways. No harm, no foul. But what if you woke to find your fantasy lover beside you in the all-too real flesh? Would you feel insane? Ecstatic? Afraid?
Dream Lover: Paranormal Tales of Erotic Romance presents 17 short stories that blend romantic erotica with a touch of the otherworldly. In its 242 pages women find themselves confronting bewildering scenarios that offer them their deepest dreamy desires in wholly unexpected settings.
Among my favorites is Delilah Devlin's "Dreaming By The Sea" in which our heroine discovers a sexy salt-scented stranger emerging nude from the sea. Is he just another laid-back Californian enjoying an ocean swim au natural, or can he be the Mer-man of her mythic dreams braving dry land to claim her?
Another winner is series editor Kristina Wright's "Thief of Dreams", a mesmerizing blend of the sensual, the supernatural, and the spiritual spotlighting the actual wings of desire summoned by a heavenly lover's earthy counterpart.
Dream Lover: Paranormal Tales of Erotic Romance's 242 pages of mystically charged romantic erotica includes a foreword by Megan Hart and editor/author Kristina Wright's introduction. Those already enamored of erotic romance will enjoy the addition of the paranormal/sci-fi world; aficionados of sci-fi/fantasy open to romantic erotica will be doubly rewarded.

This book is an anthology of 17 Paranormal Erotic Tales.
This book was absolutely excellent, one of my favorite anthologies, ever. I am only sorry that it took me so long to finally read and review it. Out of the 17 tales I can’t think of one that I didn’t like or wasn’t impressed with. Sure, I liked some more than others, but all of them were exceptionally well written and deliciously sexy.
Each story is very short, but I was really impressed by the level of detail and sensuality that each author was able to convey in so few words. I was also surprised, delightfully so, at some of the romance felt throughout. Sometimes stories so short have to sacrifice a few things… Usually writers keep the sex and have a harder time expressing the romance of the story. Some of these stories were incredibly romantic, and still managed to have plenty of sex.
This is a group of stories I would happily recommend to my friends who like a steamy paranormal read. There is something for everyone.
Cherise Everhard, May 2013 -
A little bit about my view on each story
Love Resurrection: Quite interesting story, good steamy scene. Definitely a Gothic story.
Dreaming by the Sea: Really lovely story.
Devil's Food: Uh sexy baker and elf hotness. If you like mixing food and sex.
Rainmaker: Hot weird fiction. Very strait forward story line.
Shattered Belle: Odd ghost story. Not very sexy - just a bit odd and a bit sad. Didn't get great emotion out of me.
Living off Lovers: Quite disturbing and I am not sure I would actually have put this in an erotic romance collection. Good story, but not very sexy or pleasant to read.

I seem to be stock at the later stories they are not hitting the mark for me and I seem to be skipping over them -
A wonderfully diverse mix of short stories that encompass all manners of dreams - from scary hot to sweetly sexy. Well written, all of these stories were remarkably good, it was difficult to tear myself away long enough to eat (because reading smut at the dinner table with your kids and husband is in bad taste)
-
I was a little disappointed in this book. I really wanted more from the stories- more lust, more dream like paranormal tales that would epitomize the genre- but many of the stories fell short.
It was a good read- but not excellent. -
Whatever creature of the night you desire, you're sure to find one here. Very well written anthology of paranormal romantic stories. Sex scenes are around a 3/5 in terms of heat, so I wouldn't necessarily categorize this as erotica. Definitely recommend.
-
It was good for what it was. Very much served its purpose. The writing was decent overall. Quick little summer read.
-
I only read one stoeey, about a ghost. Every flat and unfulfilling.
-
Short and sexy collection of stories. Hot and fun!
-
Nice bedtime story book.
