Demon Sacred, Volume 3 Reviews

Review for volume 1:

Rating: 4.5 stars.
(1) I really like the backstory of the child who came to become the 'lock' (owner of a sort) to Phenix, and I also like the kid's interactions with the MCs!
(2) The Red Dragon, the No. 1, the most powerful and the oldest among the demons, a.k.a the Beast from the Bible finally shows himself (or herself, since demons are supposed to be genderless)
(3) K2, the demon 'locked' by one of the twins, a.k.a the Beast of the mark of 666 from the Bible, is having more interaction with other humans as well!! I like it.
(4) but of course, the real villains are always the other humans... -
Keitsu a.ka. the ikemenization of 666 Beast is getting cuter and cuter in this volume. I feel the urge to pat his head XD The story becomes deeper as the main villain is introduced. SMIC is the main villain itself.

Natsumi Itsuki, Demon Sacred, vol. 3 (Tokyopop, 2003)
NOTE: This review necessarily contains plot spoilers for earlier volumes in the series.
Now we're starting to get somewhere. Helmut is finally revealed, as is his tie to Shinobi, while we also meet Helmut's slightly cracked (and entirely self-centered) sister. Keito, now aware of the existence of K2, becomes obsessed with meeting him and finding out how they can look so much alike and be so different. Meanwhile, Mona wants to see if she can find a way to work with the Griffin's chain to keep the Griffin and K2 from constantly trying to destroy one another...and finds something entirely different than she expected. Here's the volume where the series really seems to find its groove; there's a lot going on here, and it all falls into a very nice rhythm, with the characters distinguishing themselves better, becoming more three-dimensional; at a guess, the Keito/K2 distinction is what made everything click into place. One way or the other, the series really starts picking up steam here. *** ½ -

Onto volume three and I’m still finding this series pretty average but, I do feel like it’s starting to pick up the pace and growing on me ever so slightly. Demons are crossing dimension and accumulating in the human world. When they touch humans, those people experience Return Syndrome, a phenomenon where you age in reverse until you disappear. However, there are a few humans, including our lead Mona, who don’t get affected and instead become the master of said Demon. In this volume the main conflicts have seemingly all been laid out with the introduction of more people researching the Demons, Keito and K2 finally meeting face to face, and more information about why the Demon numbers are exponentially growing in the human world. I still find the character bland and unappealing with the except of K2 who, for me at least, keeps the story somewhat interesting. But the plot has marginally improved from the previous volumes. It’s odd as all the element for a great story are there but somehow everything just feels disconnected.
