"My life is important to me."
I teared up once I read the final page because I am totally going to miss these characters and reading more of their story! 😭😭😭
This has been such an incredible series! This volume wasn't the wrap-up I expected as it was more focused on fun memories in school and romance. I was very excited about the latter because it was really sweet and appreciated seeing Kanade and Arou grow together as a couple.
The school memories were pretty good too, though I missed how this volume had the deep impact the majority of this series had. I'm not sure why the tagline on the back cover says "Will Arou make the ultimate sacrifice to save Kanade?" because Kanade herself says he wouldn't sacrifice himself. To quote Kanade, "His life is important to him! That's why he won't disappear for good!"
However, I think that was the important message in this volume: That our lives should be important to us.
Arou's uncle I don't think thought his life was important to him, but was able to slowly start to see that he should as he saw how each of these "kids" valued their lives and their gifts. Did people think they were weird or creepy at times? Yes, but that didn't stop them from believing they were important, especially when they knew they weren't alone.
Overall, this was a good ending, but an even better series that I am SO thankful I read! So many wonderful messages woven throughout each volume that will definitely stick with me for a long time to come. <3 -
I found this a really sweet story about a group of kids with powers to see in a way that no one else can. Because of these powers they are easily misunderstood and i think that's a lot of what this story is about. Moving forward despite the fear (both from themselves and from others) in order to do the good only they are able. And it's sweet to see when people, even when they don't understand the whole of them, get the important parts and chose to think well of them anyway.
My one complaint is that while their powers tend to be pretty straight forward, they touch someone and they can see part of their past/future there are some parts that don't make sense. SPOILERS.- Arou's powers are different and yes part of the story revolves around the fact that Arou is just unusual even among those with powers. However, the fact that Arou himself melts into the air or water when he uses his powers to their full extent doesn't make sense. It's a jump that I can't quite seem to logic believably. - -
After re-reading Tsukaba's Penguin Revolution, I decided to re-read this series of hers as well... and I loved it!! This is such a cute, feel good, heartwarming, sweet manga!! It has so many good messages and embraces love, individuality and doing the right thing. It doesn't shy away from the harsher realities (like people being afraid) that goes over and beyond to prove that at the same time, there will be good people. So much hope and heart in this one!!
Also, I ship the main couple. Just saying. -
Great ending. A little underwhelming though. I felt like there needed to be a little more after the Ski trip incident. It felt kind of rushed?
4/5 stars overall! Great, solid series. It’s sweet and simple. Not too dark. Characters have some sad backstories but nothing scary. Art isn’t too flashy. Very easy on the eyes and easy to read.
This is definitely one of the best older shojo series I’ve read! -
Ultimately, the end was a ski accident gone by too quickly. I still think the series as a whole is a solid 3 stars.

Started off really interesting and sort of faded to a meh by the end.

"If there was a land of the blindfolded...would people understand the concept of sight?"
No matter how many times I read it...I loved those words.
Definitely a must-read series. The characters are completely and irresistibly loveable, the plot is interesting and wholly unique. I liked that the stories were mostly short vignettes, a slice-of-life of the main characters. Some people might be put off by the supernatural aspect of it, but at it's heart it's a wonderful coming-of-age, romantic, often comedic (and sometimes very somber) manga about friends and what it means to suffer loss yet still be able to gain love again.
And it's gorgeous! Full panel scenes are drawn wonderfully. Shading is rendered well, faces beautiful. All my favorite characters never looked awkward or gangly. Arou & Kanade never jump the shark. They are simply the most adorable couple I've read about since Sawako & Kazehaya of
Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You, Vol. 01. Read read read! -
In the first chapter of the last volume of Beyond the Blindfold, we delve deeper into Aro's past and we know how he makes peace with himself (with Kanade's help).
As an intermezzo, we get a story about Aro's birthday and Kanade's romantic present for him, and a story about Christmas party at school and its preparation. We learn how Namiki gets closer to the student council's leader (the Someya girl), but it's difficult to tell if they will like each other or not.
For the climax, we get an incident in a ski resort. Kanade and some of her school friends are caught in a snow storm and lost, trapped in a cave. Aro frantically tries to find her, dissolving into the air. Well, he does succeed in finding her, but he can't seem to maintain his solid form for long. Aro disappears! Everyone's now looking for him, and in the end, it's Kanade who manages to bring him back. -
Final volume of the series. Overall, the manga feels enjoyable but a bit slight. I wish the conclusion of the series had focused as much on Kanade as it did on Arou; as with so much shojo manga, the boys got the lion's share the opportunities to angst. But I liked the value that Tsukuba placed on Eri and Kanade's friendship, and the way the series ultimately valued the trio's place in their school as a whole, not just amongst themselves.

Satisfying conclusion though I didn't want this series to end. Give me more! Give me more! *cries* Yes, I'm suffering from withdrawal. What can I say, I really really liked this manga!
