What happens when the one person you thought you’d never see again waltzes back into your life? One scandalizing night in an emotional novel by a USA Today bestselling author. Lennon Wells and Beckham Sullivan should have been perfect for each other. Both vulnerable, both striving to please difficult families, and both broken by the past. Going from friends to lovers seemed inevitable. So did a bad ending. They thought—they hoped—they’d never see each other again. Years later, bad luck or fate, Lennon and Beckham find themselves working for the same magazine. The wounds are still raw, but the chemistry is there. Then they’re forced to work together on a project. Some things never change, and all it takes is one impetuous night. One mistake. And Lennon discovers she’s pregnant. With more in common than they ever had before, Lennon and Beckham are going to be in each other’s lives for a long time now, whether they like it or not. And they’re starting to. If only they can break from the generational traumas that hold tight and take a shot at something they never a second chance.

I love Micalea Smeltzer's writing, and this story was good, but it felt like it was missing something for me. I'm not sure if it was the chemistry or the pacing but I just never got fully into it. I do love a good surprise pregnancy book and the ending was super cute.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I went into this book slightly biased and with big expectations because the Wildflower duet was one of my favourite reads from 2022. It completely shocked me, tore my heart out then stitched it back together, and I was left feeling like ‘how dare a book duet be this good?!’

So it’s safe to say nothing was going to live up to my expectations. 🥲 But Pretty Little Mistake came close!

My favourite parts of this book
    ⭐️ second chance romance
    ⭐️ office romance
⭐️ surprise pregnancy (I honestly love this trope when it’s well written)
    ⭐️ in-depth on-page character development
⭐️ witty banter dished out by both MCs

Some of the side characters were unnecessarily annoying and the relationship arc was a bit drawn out. I also could have done with some more third act drama (I never usually criticise this but in this book it felt like there could have been more). But all in all I enjoyed reading this and highly recommend anything and everything by Micalea!

this sooo hit the spot for me. the perfect grumpy/sunshine, fluffy, surprise pregnancy read.

lennon and beckham were *something* once upon a time but that ended abruptly and she never knew why. fast forward to day one at her new job and imagine her horror when he’s now her coworker AND they get put on a project together. one business trip and a little hate youknowwhat later, they’re now really stuck together.

i loved how grumpy he was. their dynamic was so fun and the banter was so good. i also loveddd that even though they had their one night, there was still a slow buildup to their actual relationship and their enemies to lovers dynamic didn’t just disappear after one night. he’s also my favorite kind of grump where he does the cutest little things that reveal how much he cares.

if you’ve read micalea from the wildflower duet, this is not the emotional angst-fest that was. but this was such a cute, good read and i love them sm.

I think this could have been cute but I DNFed around 30% because the dialogue felt super stiff and
'slang-y' at the same time. Not exactly the vibe I was looking for but overall the story was really cute.

I could see myself coming back to this one!

I really liked Beckham in this book because after a while, he really did everything for her.

The story starts with one of our main characters, Lennon. She got a new job at a lifestyle magazine but never expected to see the person that broke her heart there, after all those years.

Beckham was her brother's best friend and after they got together, he disapeared out of their lifes…

This personally wasn’t a book for me but I advise you to form your own opinion.

I didn’t like the female main character and it really made me cringe when she was talking about “lady farts”.

There are TW for this book (death of a parent,…)

Thank you to Netgalley, Micalea Smeltzer and the publisher for providing me with this copy. All opinions are my own.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I love Micalea’s writing. There’s something so fluid and easy when she writes and it translates so good on the page. However, I didn’t love this book.

    1) I couldn’t get over the cat named Cheddar. I know so many people who have named their cat that and I just wanted another name.

    2) Okay the petname Beckham calls Lennon is pretty cute. Honeybee. Loved that.

    3) I knew this was surprise pregnancy but I thought it would be later in the book. It happened too fast for my liking but that’s a me thing and nothing to do with the book. Other people probably love that the pregnancy happens around the 30% mark haha.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t finish it. It might get better, but my TBR is too long to power through something I’m not loving. However 3 star rating because the writing is great prose wise and there were elements I adored. I have several highlighted passages so that should tell you it’s not a fail at all.

Pleas pick this one up when it releases and give it a read! I’d love to know everyone’s thoughts on it! ♡

Pretty Little Mistake is the newest book from Micalea Smeltzer. I’ve read a handful of books from this author now so I had this new release on my radar. Since this book is published with Montlake, it did come with the KU read and listen feature too, which is always a plus! This is a childhood friends to enemies to lovers, accidental/surprise pregnancy (it’s in the synopsis), second chance, and workplace romance!

Lennon and Beckham were each other’s firsts years ago, back when he was also her brother’s best friend. But now it’s been years and things didn’t end well between them. Now they find each other in the same city at the same time and even working at the same place. Forced to work together and travel together for work, they find themselves hating being around one another but also still having all those lusty feelings. While on a work trip they end up sharing a night together, which leads to her finding out she’s pregnant later!

“Insane. Life changing. It’s a pretty little mistake.”
    “A mistake?”
He nods, cupping my jaw in a surprisingly tender way. “The best one we could make.”

This ended up being okay for me. I found myself frustrated with the main characters a lot though and at different times I didn’t enjoy them as people/characters. Which made it hard to root for them in the story. Beckham was adopted and that plays a part in his story. I liked seeing them try to make something between them work, for the sake of having a child together. They do have a little bit of back and forth longer than I think was needed, I just wanted them to admit their feelings sooner. His nickname for her is “Honey Bee”, which was cute. All in all this was okay, but if it didn’t have the audio I would have had a harder time getting through it honestly.

"Pretty Little Mistake" by Micalea Smeltzer is an emotionally charged second chance romance that captivated me from beginning to end. The story revolves around Lennon Wells and Beckham Sullivan, two individuals who have endured their fair share of pain and heartbreak. When fate brings them back together years later, working for the same magazine, their unresolved feelings resurface, and they are forced to confront the wounds of their past.
I particularly enjoyed the unique twist of Lennon discovering she is pregnant, which added an extra layer of complexity to the romance. Unlike other stories where pregnancy becomes the sole reason for a couple to stay together, Smeltzer skillfully weaves it into the narrative, making it an integral part of the characters' journey without overshadowing the romance itself.
As a first-time reader of Micalea Smeltzer's work, I was impressed by her storytelling ability. The chemistry between Lennon and Beckham was palpable, and their character development felt authentic and relatable. Smeltzer's writing style flowed effortlessly, drawing me deeper into the story with each page.
Overall, "Pretty Little Mistake" is a heartfelt and engaging novel that explores the power of second chances. It successfully balances the complexities of love, family expectations, and personal growth, making it a must-read for fans of contemporary romance. I look forward to delving into more of Micalea Smeltzer's books in the future.

«Oh, Lennon, you don’t want to do that.
    I love a challenge. I always win.»

Friends in the past, colleagues now, what could be better?

Beckham was Lennon's friend until one day he cuts off all communication and years later they become colleagues. He's a photographer at the publishing house where Lennon is employed, they could have played eye candy, but their boss puts the pair on a joint project and sends them on a trip to Chicago where their chemistry gets completely out of control.

Eventually, the three of them return. Him, her and a little souvenir.
I fell in love with this book, I loved the area where they worked, how together they coped and tried to heal the wounds of the past.
It was crazy cute to read about Lennon's new addiction to sweet tea.
Throughout the book they tried to be a team and be the perfect parents for their baby.

I can't wait to order this book and support in hand

In Pretty Little Mistake by Micalea Smeltzer, Lennon and Beckham, two individuals with a shared past, reunite after years apart. Working together at a magazine, they find that the chemistry between them is still strong. However, a single impulsive night leads to an unexpected pregnancy, forcing them to confront their traumas and consider a second chance at love.

I had such a blast reading this book! The banter between the characters was on point and had me hooked the whole time. Beckham, the brooding bad boy, had a major chip on his shoulder. He tried to scare her off with his rude attitude, but she wasn't having any of it. Gotta admit, I'm usually not into office romances, but this one didn't bother me at all. There wasn't any unnecessary drama, and the characters grew so much throughout the story.

It took a while for Lennon and Beckham to finally admit their feelings, but when they did, it felt so natural and real. The author really took their time to build up their relationship, and I appreciated that. And let's talk about the surprise pregnancy twist! Seeing Beckham all protective and stepping up was absolutely heart-melting.

All in all, this book had it all—funny banter, character growth, and a romance that hit all the right spots. I was totally invested in Lennon and Beckham's journey, and I couldn't put the book down. Highly recommended for those who love a good dose of sass and swoon!

I have been enjoying this authors books lately so I was very excited to check this out!

This started off really well for me. I felt connected to the characters since the beginning. Second chance romance has been hitting right lately. The characters had great banter.

A trope is in this story that I’m not a fan of which took away from my overall enjoyment. There were also several triggers of mine that I wasn’t expecting. Unfortunately the book made me anxious at times. I think people will enjoy this book but I do recommend looking up specific triggers!

  • Emma

no because how have I found myself liking TWO accidental pregnancy books in under a month ??? this was just so fckn adorable and made me realize I need to try this trope more. the way Beckham immediately jumped into his role and a future dad and didn’t let his fears stand in the way of that role was so cute. and when he eventually let himself open up fully to Lennon, my heart was overjoyed. the spice SPICED which was such a treat and I laughed a bunch was is always a bonus.

What a swoony, spicy and heartwarming romance from Micalea Smeltzer! The sweet torture of forbidden and unrequited love for brother’s best friend. The sizzling hot attraction and tension of enemies to lovers romance. The banter of workplace romance. And then a sweet little surprise! Lennon and Beckham won my heart.

The last person Lennon expected to face in her new job at her dream magazine is the person who broke her heart savagely years ago. Beckham has emotional baggage. And he knows Lennon is off limits. The only way he can push her is being arrogant and angry. Their boss forces them to work on a project together. That adventure lead to the surprise they neve wanted but something that would tie them together.

It was a whole package. Lennon and Beckham had a true friendship that turned to more but then Beckham's insecurity and fear took over and he left breaking her heart. You see glimpses of past that makes you understand their dynamics. The present Beckham is a grumpy brooding ahole. He has a bad childhood that Scarred him and he doesn't want to fall in love ever in fear of getting hurt and abandoned. But Lennon has a way to get under his skin. She is adorable and sassy and doesn't let Beck hide behind his defense mechanism. Their chemistry only intensified by their so called hatred and the denial and then the forced proximity. I love the situations when none of the party wants to accept their feels but cannot deny their attraction either! But the little surprise definitely changed Beckham. He supported and protected Lennon when she needed her the most. I hate her pretentious rich manipulative family so much! Thank god Beckham was there to love her unconditionally. Argh he just made me swoon so bad! Lennon's life became a rollercoaster and she expected Beckham to fail to become a real partner but Beck proved her wrong.

I reviewed an early copy voluntarily

DNF at 20% because I just couldn’t find it in me to like the main characters. For adults, they acted sooo childish. Especially Beckham. He acted more like an angry toddler than anything else.
I don’t even know how to put into words with how much I didn’t like Lennon. Maybe it was the fact that anytime she’d see Beckham her body would betray her 🙄 (Iykyk)

Safe to say, this was not a book for me lol.

    Synopsis:
Lennox and Beckham have history since they were teenagers. They did not think their paths would cross again but then Lennox starts as a journalist at a new magazine. The same magazine that Beckham works for as a photographer.
They hook up on a work trip and Lennox ends up pregnant.
Will there be a Happy End for them?
Why did Beckham leave?l back then?

    My opinion:
I went into this one blindly. I have read many of Micaela’s book before and they all had me on the verge of tears. So I had no idea what this would be about. It had a nice amount of spice, definitely a huge plus!

I absolutely adored Beckham. But other than that, there was no heartbreak, no drama, it was just…
I don’t even know what it was. I guess the total enemies to friends trope with an added fake relationship. Not my favourite trope. I did not mind the book but after the strong beginning, I expected a lot more.

There was a time that Lennon was closer to Beckham than anyone else until he broke her heart. So you can imagine Lennon’s surprise when she starts her new job, coming face to face with the man who broke her heart. Lennon thought she was over the hurt from the past, but when she’s forced to work with Beckham on a project, all of her old feelings come roaring back.

Pretty Little Mistake sucked me in from the very first page. I was immediately intrigued by Beckham and Lennon and couldn’t wait to dive further into their story. Lennon is the girl who has always been under her parent’s thumb and as much as she wants to please them, she wants to make a name for herself on her own. And Beckham is the guy who has always been hopelessly in love with Lennon. Their relationship has always been complicated and the baggage from his past leaves him questioning whether or not he’s good enough for the woman of his dreams. Together, these two should be the ultimate match, if only they could move past all of their baggage. I loved how vulnerable and real these characters were with each other. Their chemistry oozed off of the pages and their banter kept me coming back for more. These characters were far from perfect and even though they had me wanting to pull my hair out at times, I couldn’t get enough.

Pretty Little Mistake hits all of my trope marks with an exciting forbidden, enemies to lovers, accidental pregnancy, and second chance romance. I enjoyed everything about this story from beginning to end and couldn’t help but root for Lennon and Beckham.

    "ARC Review" (Netgally)
I definitely finished this book in almost one sitting and yes it is 3.20 am and I just finished it because I couldn't put it down. So I guess this goes to say that this book is absolutely adorable and not all that I was expecting in the best way possible.
Lennon comes from a rich family where her parents put a lot of effort into their image in society. But she is nothing like her family, she wanted to become her own self and has dedicated her education to become in journalist. So when she finally gets the job of her dreams and moves to New York everything seems to be perfect. Well, she thought wrong, on her first they of work she found out the one guy who broke her heart when she was a teenager, is the photographer for the magazine she works for. Beckham comes from a wealthy family as well the only difference is that he was adopted into wealth and not born with it. Therefore he thinks he views having wealth differently than Lennon. To him, it was also ver much a surprise that the one day he runs into the meeting a bit late is also when he saw the woman he thought he would never see again.
I think this book was very good and very light there is a bit of spicy this book needs. The only thing I have is I think it could have been a tick shorter. Don't get me wrong every chapter is worth reading but I do feel like it could have been a bit shorter. I really love the banter the two of them have and I had a lot of moments where I had a laugh and I couldn't hold a smile back. This is a book to cheer me up for sure!

He really thinks he has nothing to offer , that he is nothing. He has no idea that once upon a time, he was my everything.

This was my first Micalea Smeltzer book and I loved every second of it! This is a second chance, workplace romance with an accidental pregnancy involved. Lennon & Beckham were such a good match! They were truly equals and their banter never failed to entertain me. The side characters except Laurel weren't that great but I still enjoyed the story. The part where the baby was finally born was so heartwarming and I loved how Beckham subtly took care of Lennon even when he wasn't sure if he deserved her. They weren't together throughout the entire length of the book but they were a team in a sense. I always felt like they belonged together and I was rooting for them to realise the fact too. The epilogue was adorable and I just couldn't get enough of the book. It was definitely a good read!

Lennon Wells has always dreamed of being a writer and lands a job writing for Real Point magazine. On her first day she finds out her ex-friend, the guy who took her virginity, also works there as their lead photographer, Beckham Sullivan.

They try their best to avoid each other but their boss partners on an assignment and they have to go on a work trip together. After some drinks and too much sexual tension they give in and have sex. When they realize that night results in an accidental pregnancy and that this will mean they have to sort through the problems of their past and work together for their baby.

I really enjoy Micalea Smeltzer books and how she’s able to make her books relatable. There’s humor, sadness and the perfect amount of spice for a romance book. I really enjoyed that you get to experience her pregnancy from start to finish and that it isn’t just a quick and over with.

Pretty Little Mistake will be available August 22, 2023

  • Aislinn Strohecker

4 Stars Pretty Little Mistake was a delightful childhood friends-to-lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers, surprise pregnancy romance.

Lennon Welles has hated Beckham Sullivan since the day he took her virginity, then ran away to college, never to be heard from again. Lennon was broken-hearted, having loved Beckham since they were both kids. Now, both are working at a small magazine in New York and are doing their best to avoid each other. That is, until their boss partners them on an assignment and sends them on a work trip. Using the drinks they had at the bar to cover for the fact that their feelings for one another are still there, they sleep together on a trip. When Lennon gets a positive pregnancy test back, she and Beckham realize they will always be in each other’s lives and that they’ll have to sort through their complicated pasts and generational familial trauma to make it work.

I appreciated that this book followed Lennon and Beckham through the pregnancy, rather than them getting the positive test around 70% of the way through the book, like other surprise pregnancy novels have done. This book completely focuses on them as they navigate the unexpected and their tentative relationship as future co-parents. Overall, I really enjoyed the book and appreciated that there was no third act breakup.

Wait this was so cute 🥹

If you read The Confidence of Wildflowers by Smeltzer and want a similar story, this might not be for you, but I think this book showed the true range of her writing capabilities.

Surprise pregnancy is one of those tropes that is more miss than hit for me, but this one was so good 😭 I just want my own Beckham in my life (apologies to my fiancé but ITS TRUE). He was a little grumpy, kind of a dick, but also so sweet and thoughtful and SWOONY, not to mention how he is in the bedroom 👀🥵

The ending of this book was very very sugary sweet, which is nice, but I would have liked a little more conflict honestly (who am I??? I hate conflict!). Overall though, this was such a good read and I can’t wait to see what other books this author writes!

THIS BOOK🥹 Accidental pregnancy is a trope that everyone bashes, but I am here to tell you: GIVE THIS BOOK A TRY. I absolutely loved it. Micalea Smeltzer has such a talent of writing such real and raw characters. They are funny and smart and honest and so human it makes your heart hurt. Beckham and Lennon were childhood friends turned lovers turned enemies. The angst these two had, the TENSION. Not to mention the growth both Beckham and Lennon experienced throughout the course of this book. I laughed, I cried, I pined, I wanted to beat up Lennon’s parents. Just everything. Also, the fact that he calls her honeybee is just so sweet to me. The way he loves her, even when he doesn’t allow himself to call it love, is so pure. These two just wrecked me in the best of ways!!

  • Robyn

Thank you Netgalley for this arc in exchange for an honest review.

This book follows a second chance romance between Lennon and Beckham. These two are paired together on a project at the same company. Their boss forces them to go on a trip. Unknowing to them, that trip would change their lives. The 'Pretty Little Mistake' in this book is a baby. Or as Lennon calls it, a sperm pet. This joke was funny the first time however I didnt like it being repeated throughout. I guess that represents Lennon and her sassy, witty personality.

This book also follows the pain and healing of these two characters. I didnt like how long it took for them to admit their feelings however when it got to Beckhams POV, his comments about her looks, her laugh, had me blushing. The development of Beckham was also very good and seeing him swoon was lovely.

Overall, Pretty Little Mistake was a 3.5 star read for me. Certain points for me I did not like, however these are my opinions and if you like them then please do read this! Micalea Smeltzer hit the nail on the head with the Office Romance genre though!
