Best Loved Poems of John Betjeman Reviews

  • Richard Crookes

Brilliant, witty, musical, memorable, accessible, sexy, - above all human... what more do you want?

  • Caoimhín

I've always found it harder to get into poems which constantly reference historical figures, geographical locations, towns or street names that I'm not connected to. I appreciate the sense of rhythm in some of the poems but I never felt enthralled by them.

  • Victoria

Not my favourite poetry collection but it had a few poems I enjoyed. It's very hit or miss with me and male poets.

My favourite poems in this collection:
    - In A Bath Teashop
    - The Licorice Fields at Pontefract
    - Late-Flowering Lust
    - A Russell Flint

  • Shelby Bollen

None of Betjeman's poems really appealed to me and I didn't come away with any favourites. I enjoyed reading this collection but it isn't one that I would come back to.

  • Shreya

An easy to read yet thought provoking passage back into the realm of poetry. It's been a long time since I read verse for pleasure but this was really that, for pleasure. I imagine it must be difficult for someone not familiar with the atmosphere in different parts of Britain but we are better off for the specific nostalgia these poems evoke!
The rest of this is not a review but my lovely bookmark notes
