An appealing story to inspire very beginner readers. Based on the principles of synthetic phonics, supports the "Letters and Sounds" programme used in thousands of UK primary schools. Adult and child take turns to read, and the child's text uses only the letters s a t p i n m d plus new letters g o c k ck e u r. Fun puzzles test understanding, and provide opportunities for discussion and further reading practice.
The Dressing-Up Box Reviews

My son and I are both enjoying the Usborne Very First Reading books. This is book 2. The parent reads a page and the child reads a page. Nice way to acquire sight words and build fluency, plus the parent models fluency.

This is the second book in the Usborne Very First Reader series, and my ESL daughters are enjoying working through the books. This particular book gave us opportunities to talk about what different words actually meant (like pot and nap). I love that the sounds remain the same for the child learning to read, and it's not as overwhelming for them. I also love the additional activities included in the back of each book. Not the most interesting story, but great for helping a child learn the basics of reading.

2.5/5 this simple short story, all about inagining what you might be when you grow up, is designed to support beginner readers aged 4+ by combining decodable sentences that the child can read with more complex text for an adult (or older competent reader) to read.

Used to love to dress up in clothes

Joint reading works well. Both adult and child participate and, I notice, talk about the story a little more than usual.
Dress up clothing triggers imagination. -
Love these books as they are a part of the Usborne Very First Reading series. They are great stories and include activities for comprehension, rhyming, word choice, etc at the end of each. Our son loved the whole series!

33 months - I like that this is a co-reading book. Adults read the left, kids read the right. Puzzles and activities at the end. We will have to re-visit these books.

A fun book for early readers to encourage them in their reading skills. Great for those interested in dressing up as different characters.
