Includes an introduction about how to use folk literature in the classroom for multiple subjects, to help connect folktales to modern life, and to build appreciation for cultural diversity. One of the goals is to have students write their own stories. The book is then separated into different sections of stories: trickster, fables, "why" stories, and fairy tales. Each section contains from five to seven stories from all over the world, and discusses genre characteristics and enrichment activities. Overall the idea of the book is interesting, but with the stories and comprehension activities following so closely behind one another, it feels more like a textbook or workbook than a storybook.
