The Demetrios Virgin Reviews
-
Re The Demetrios Virgin - Penny Jordan proves that you can bring the old skool into the new millennium with this tropey of the tropiest HP voyage.
HPlandia Rule #2 is used here in a HUGE way:
Unicorn Grooming Licenses are ALWAYS an HP heroine's get out of jail free card. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.00.
Just go straight to a couture wardrobe and unlimited Birkin bags as you walk right up the aisle to a marriage with a really rich, really handsome HP billionaire who will absolutely adore you.
This one starts, as many HP blackmail books do, with the h doing something a little dumb, but so HP h'yness. The h agrees to help out a friend test her maybe cheating fiance by dressing up in slinky OW style to 'test' his ability to stave off the man eating women who are not HP heroines.
This kinda backfires, because our hardworking HP hotel accountant h doesn't know what the guy looks like, she just picks the most interesting man at the bar and tries to pick him up - needless to say, she picks the H. He is not feeling the love for a woman who presents herself as a prostitute.
It is all downhill from there as the H and h meet on Monday morning and blackmail ensues. The H needs a fiancee to ward off a predatory evil OW who has got his grandfather convinced that the H and the OW will be a match made in heaven.
(PJ conveniently lets us know that this is a bad thing because the OW is a widow who probably drove her hubby to his death with her devious ways, is seven years older than the H and has three kids of probably dubious parentage to boot. Plus she has a really skeezy slime pustule for an accountant and who knows what the OW gets up to with him.)
The h obviously has no problems with the pay to play route and she will be the perfect decoy - she has to go with the H as his fiancee to Greece to ward off Grandpa or horrible things will be caused by the H.
So after a new designer wardrobe with no nightwear added, the H and h are off to Greece. There is some H beratement on the h's shameless hussy morals, but the H's sister likes her and the staff thinks the h is very kind.
The h is even kind to elderly men who get themselves overwhelmed in the Athens' heat - as we see when the h is doing the HP travelogue moment and stops to help a very nice old man who is collapsing and even speaks to his driver about getting him acceptable care.
In fact the only person who doesn't like the h, (excepting the H, who really does like the h, but he is fighting it,) is the Evil Snot Snarfer Black Widow Predatory OW. The Evil OW doesn't know the word quit - she is DETERMINED the H will be HERS!
She has a failing hotel empire she needs him for - plus she tried to seduce the H when he was fifteen and even brought an electronic enhancement along- but the H was super savvy even at fifteen and kicked the woman out of his room after threatening to have the household staff drag her out of his room with electronic device in hand.
This OW doesn't want to hear the world NO, ever, so she resumes her pursuit of the H and sics her skeezy slime pustule accountant onto the h. The H manages to ignore the OW, but the sight of the skeezy slime pustule trying it on with the h sends his blood pressure into overdrive.
Eventually, after numerous OW insults and beratements of the h, the Evil OW makes her play of trying to buy off the h for a million pounds.
(At this point the h is helplessly in love with the H and is valiantly trying to resist the thought of the H's manly manliness next her in bed - as the h has no nightclothes and the H doesn't wear t-shirts - only the h's minuscule knickers keep them both from casting themselves on the Golden Shores of Transcendent Bliss.)
The h naturally says NO to the OW's offer - not for a million pounds or even a hundred million pounds would she renounce her love for the H.
Fortunately, the H's sister overhears this conversation and after a Purple Passion moment when the minuscule knickers proved a very flimsy barrier to unicorn grooming license revocation and a quick chat with his sister, the H realizes that he has been INCREDIBLY WRONG this whole time.
He knows he really loves the now firmly established as a pure and virtuous h and the Evil OW antics are going to get some off page comeuppance - yep, the H is voting the evil OW and her skeezy slime pustule side kick right off his private island. But first, there is the H's grandpa to meet and Surprise!
The H's grandpa happens to be the elderly old guy the h helped out in Athens. He already adores the h and couldn't ask for a better partner for his stubborn grandson.
Which is a good thing, because the H is determined to marry our now ex-unicorn groomer h and in true HPlandia H style, he uses the addendum HP rule #3
A True Alpha HP H's motilators will ALWAYS hit the Unicorn Grooming heroine's target on the first go - leading to a visit by the HPlandia stork delivery service nine months later.
But the h doesn't want to be married for the potential baby's sake, so she refuses the H's eminently logical proposal, even after the H declares he loves her madly in front of his whole family. So the H finally has to be honest and confess his deep and abiding love for the h in the privacy of their shared room.
This H is poetically convincing enough that both the h and I believed him and the mutual love and devotion is a given, as the H whisks the h back to England for a nice, quick marriage. But PJ doesn't leave us hanging here either.
We get an adorable epilogue where the H and h are hosting their newborn son's first christening. The H is an excellent daddy, the H's grandfather is a proud great grandpa and fortunately the newborn son and heir was three weeks late from the delivery date - meaning that he was born nine months and one day after the h and H's wedding. So no nasty connotations can be made.
The H and h are still madly in love too, as we learn the new baby is getting brother or a sister before his first birthday and we leave them all lurving it up and happy for a PJ sparkly pink rainbow HPlandia HEA. -
Enjoyable and tropey HP that sticks to the script and so delivers!
I had to check on the author to ensure it was indeed PJ… because it felt so much more like Jessica Steele - with tighter writing, of course!
A sweet guileless h, a new Greek boss, a mu and he thinks she’s a tramp, he needs a pretend fiancée asap, some blackmail and coercion, sneering and slut shaming, dressing her up in couture (with her putting up the signature token protest) and it’s off to Greece for act II !
Add on a determined vampy ow (a delicious Mrs. Robinson type), a stubborn grandfather and other more amenable family for some family drama.
And stir in light cutesy fluffy elements and we are set! -
Cute engagement of convenience story with Penny Jordan doing justice to all of the tropes:
Meet cute - heroine is dressed provocatively to test her friend's fiance. Unfortunately, she doesn't know what her friend's fiance looks like so she comes on to the hero, the new owner of the hotel chain she works for.
Blackmail/engagement of convenience - Hero needs a fiance he so he can get his grandfather off of his back about marrying a rich black widow.
Evil OW - she chews the scenery in a cloud of custom-blended musky perfume. Trying to seduce the H when he was 15 and bribing the heroine to leave are just a few of her sins.
Virgin heroine - she has a few panic attacks when she thinks about sleeping in the same bed with the hero - but eventually succumbs to her passion.
No sponging, but the heroine puts sunscreen on the hero's back and he has to swim for a half hour to calm down.
Kind heroine - she helps the hero's father out on an Athens street without knowing his identity.
HEA with a christening in the epilogue. What more could an HP reader want? -
4.5 JUST PRETENDING STARS
This is a story about first impressions.
In this book the Hero Andreas meets the heroine Saskia at a bar where she is sent to pick him up. She thought he was her girlfriend's boyfriend, whom she thinks is cheating on her.
Turns out it's not and that it's her new hot and sexy BOSS!
The sh*t GOING to hit the FAN come Monday morning I fear!
Now the heroine is of course totally and completely innocent and the hero is not buying that for one minute because not one could possibly be as sweet as her.
That just not possible, she be "practiced seductress" because she is such a big temptation to him. He thinks it all a game and an act. She is a con but she could be useful to him to keep away his crazy cousin's widow who wants him and his grandfather who just wants him happy.
She will play the role of his loving fiancée!
The plan sounds perfect, but no plan is every truly perfect.
What happens when they are forced to share a room and a bed!?
So for me this is one of those books that I have read over and over again.
I enjoyed the grovel at the end and those swoon worthy words.
WOW just AWESOME for me.
Safety is perfect on this one guys. No real drama but the stuff in their heads and the hero is totally 100% into his girl. She is a virgin and he is experienced.
Condoms not used. -
4.5 stars
What a nice way to start my reading year! I chose this one because none of my GR friends gave it less than 3 stars. And it did not disappoint, totally worked for me.
I was supposed to read only one chapter to try to get sleepy... obviously I stayed awake until an ungodly hour to finish it 🙈
As there a great reviews with the plots I'll just comment a few things.
First what I liked:
- Loved the h. Appreciated that she was thankful to herplot moppetgrandma for raising her, was dedicated to her job but had a friend, knew she was pretty/hot but she didn't like being object of lust for men, just to name a few things I liked about her.
- The H had his moments of assholeness and stupidity but the key of my loving him lays on his inner monologues about trying to comprehend the h's alleged slutiness and getting to the conclusion of loving her even when he thought she'd just been with OM. I know, I'm weird.
- Loved H's female relatives
Now my complaints of why not the whole 5 stars:
- Needed to know "Ari" was prosecuted for whatever of his various crimes and that Athena's face was ruined because too many plastic surgeries that left her penniless. I know, I'm such a sweetheart.
- Whatever happened to grandma and Megan&Mark? At least a mention during the christening would have been welcomed.
There are a few things you have to overlook a.k.a. It's-Harleyland-baby to enjoy it but for me was more that worth it. I used to avoid PJ bacause the first couple of books I read by her left a really bad impression but now I'm aware of why PJ is the PJ in Harleyland. Thanks to KC for giving me a list of the goodies. -
Andreas meets Saskia at a bar one night she pretends to be an escort. He is also her boss but she doesn't know it. Andreas is a desperate man. His grandfather wants him to marry a rich cougar-widow who is also a pedophile and she even tried to seduce hero when he was only a boy. Naturally hero loathes this creepy bitch and in order to avoids her he informs his grandfather he is engaged to Saskia. He asks her to go to Greece with him, pretend to be his fiancee and meet his family. When they get there his family loves Saskia but creepy cougar widow is also there determined to seduce Andreas.
Fantastic read! Hero was so protective and supportive of Saskia. He treats the other woman with contempt and appreciates Saskia for the gem that she is. His cheesy poetic declaration of love made me swoon. Super romantic hero, endearing heroine and the cutest epilogue ever. -
******Spoilers******
Once again, why do I love this crap so much? The H was a completely arrogant jerkface who unfairly judged the h and only realized he was a blackmailing dbag once he took her virginity in a fit of jealousy (she wanted him and didn't resist/actively participated, so I wouldn't term it a forced seduction).
The only thing that kept this from being a 5-star was that the h forgave him the very second he revealed his love. Are you listening, authors?! We want these guys to have to work harder for their HEA. Personally my fav part is the moment he realizes what a b-stard he's been. But after that it's usually "I've always loved you, marry me" and the heroine melts in his arms.
Plus, I was uncomfortable with how much he seemed to despise loose women (he thought she was a part time prostitute when she wasn't being an accountant -- LOL). I think we were supposed to believe it was more he hated the fact that he was attracted to her even though she was a gold digger and "obvious" pseudo-prostitute. Because, apparently he didn't insist on his women being virgins. But anyway, his venom toward "her type of woman" was a little OTT. -
I’m sorry. Am I reading the same book as everyone else or am I missing some pages?
WHERE is the fucking grovelling or even the apology?
I feel so fucking cheated!
He belittled and ridiculed her throughout the ENTIRE book. Doesn’t see a single nice thing about her. Almost rapes her because how dare she chooses to have a sex life even though she’s not with him (she clearly didn’t, we are told in the title she’s s freaken virgin and will remain so until hero de-virginise her)!
Then suddenly he’s in loooooooove with her and she’s the most honest, decent, beautiful human being, because hymen?
I mean if she didn’t have the hymen as a proof she could’ve never proved that she went for the walk alone and never poked the OM! He didn’t trust HER, he trusted the hymen. Hell! He fell in love with THAT HYMEN!
So no! Zero stars! There was NO grovelling! Not even hero going on decline. I am NOT IMPRESSED! -
Typical Harlequin story. Innocent girl is mistaken for an experienced girl, until the guy realises his mistake during the first time they make love.
Plus he is Greek and he is not a bastard. He is actually very supportive and sweet and he never believes the evil bitch who wants him and who tries to make the heroine disappear with her lies. -
There's a misunderstanding, blackmail, a fake engagement, a virgin heroine and a sexy alpha male. I'm in!
Andreas and Saskia's attraction to each other is immediate after meeting "cute" at a bar in a case of mistaken identity. However, Andreas fights his feelings because he believes Saskia is a sexual predator and prostitute. LOL His loathing stems from old baggage and in spite of his best efforts Andreas falls in love anyway—as Saskia does with him—on his grandfather's private island, so all happily ends well.
A small issue that bothered me. Why, for god's sake, would Saskia agree to her friend's plan without first seeing a photograph of her target? That made no sense. Of course, if Saskia had done so Andreas wouldn't have had a basis for his misunderstanding and, therefore, there'd be no plotline for this book.
This was a paint-by-the-numbers Penny Jordan romance (I've read more romantic and passionate love stories by her), but I still enjoyed it. -
How i have missed the really old-school classical love declarations of PJ`s heroes. They are always so sensual and romantic in a Ahh way..!"The Demetrios Virgin" is a book i have wanted to read for years now.I just adore the cover,it`s so sexy!
Following the goodnatured and hard-working heroine Saskia and the cynical Greek Tyccon of a hero Andreas Latinier was super exciting and really hardcore when it came to the quick growing passionate love both of them have for each other.
Andreas was a very smitten hero against his will, and how i nearly cried when he realised his love..and how he bravely acted upon it.Thats my hero!
The epiluge was utterly GOD CAN THIS BE ANY BETTER!This is defenitely one of my greater favourites by Penny Jordan.Just Adore This Book...! -
I did like this book very much. The hero pissed me off and so did the heroine. It would have only taken her two minutes to tell him what was going on but then I guess if that was the case HP's would not be written. It still made me mad. He was such a jerk and OMG, what was with the pedophile??? She was just gross. And the hero really thought the h was interested in the scumbag lawyer??? Come on Man. That was disappointing. But then hey she's a virgo so nevermind about all those nasty comments he made: All is well in Harley land. HEA. So did I like it? HELL YEAH!!! I gave it four stars because of the great big misunderstanding and the creepy cousin pedophile and the big jerk. I loved the angst. I loved that he was proved wrong. Bring on the dramalama!!!! I am so sick and wrong.

This was REALLY painful for me to read. The hero mistakenly thinks the VIRGIN heroine is a PROSTITUTE, and continues on with this ridiculous notion until he finally beds her.
Sob.
On top of that ridiculousness, the OW is like satan.
This book includes some of my most hated elements--Big Misunderstanding that goes on way too long (and makes no sense), and the OW who is OTT evil and cunning.
This is not my favorite Penny Jordan book.
I had to speed-read it to get to the end.
Also, as an added bonus, the initial premise for the book--that the heroine is "testing" the loyalty of her friend's fiancé at a bar by pretending to come on to him--is eye-rolling ridiculousness.
Can you tell I hated this book? Well, I did. -
"The Demetrios Virgin" is the story of Saskia and Andreas.
So, apparently today none of the PJs Im reading have decided to work for me. Oh well..
The h is a naive and helpless (idiot) belle. She decides to help a close friend by pretending to be an escort and hitting on her boyfriend, only for her to proposition the H instead. The next day, she realizes he is her new boss!
The H's grandfather wants him to married a widowed cougar- and to escape the OW he decides to force our h, who he thinks is a giant hoe, to pretend to be his fiance. He then gives her a makeover, and flies her to Greece.
There they encounter a creepy OM, a super evil OW, a sweet sister and a mysterious grandfather. The h continues to wallow in self pity, relenting to all of the H's stupid demands- while he continues to slut shame her, while wanting her. The OW tries to drive a wedge, but thankfully the H does not give her time of the day. He wants the H, she wants him back, and they soon bang. Some drama and angst later, they find their HEA.
I did not like the hero in this one, the heroine was too complacent, the story was average.
Safe
2/5 -
Surprisingly I liked the book :)
-
Standard Penny J with sexy alpha male and sweet, likeable heroine that doesn't disappoint when you need a couple of hours of no-brain-cells-involved fun. I like how they met at a bar where she looks like an escort and mistakes him for the one she is trying to seduce to see if he's faithful to her good friend. Guess what happens Monday morning at work! Also like how H practically tells the OW to fuck off and stands up for the h, different from the usual fare. Nicely written.
-
H somehow blackmails h into playing the part of his fake-fiancee and they fly to his greek island to meet his family and get H's grandfather's approval , H is desperate to get raid of OW and hence this farce of fake engagement to save himself .
H never lets a chance slip away without blasting h with his mis-guided opinion about her , It was sooo good to see him fall in love with the same woman he hated (serves him right for all his OTT social lectures on 'her-type-woman' ) , then again he was bold enough to accept his love even when he thought she was some call-girl .
Oh why do I love these pathetic-head-strong-but-Macho-Greek heroes ? But I seriously think he should have worked a lil harder for HEA , the climax was rushed for me and the evil OW didn't get her deserved dose of antagonism from H . Though I liked it every time he stood up for heroine , glad he didn't had some blind fold where the OW was concerned , He knew she was evil from the beginning . You absolutely loathe a OW , that's mostly because H and H's family takes her side , but here H and his family stood by h and I liked it very much , especially H's younger sister , lol she was funny .
Ohh yes I loved the epilogue but it was too short again . -
Sweet enough. 4 stars cuz it has all the tropes I love! Boss/lowly employee, faux fiancée, the works. Andreas was a true alpha. Very possessive and old fashioned. The h was sweet, but had no sass at all. She's described as being a beauty and she succeeds in taming the beast!
I wish there were more scenes where the H is fighting for the h. The OW was rather evil and the H’s family had much role in the book. Even though the H is the boss, there isn’t much play on the workplace romance which is really the bees knees for me! -
this kept me up on a weeknight! loved the hero, the story was sweet; the OW very believably evil; etc, etc. However, I've read better books from Penny Jordan, so this one only qualifies for 4 stars.

This is one of my favorite books by PJ. Liked both Saskia and Andreas. They made an awesome pair.
Even though Andreas wouldn't let go of the assumption he'd made about Saskia being a loose woman after her attempt to pick him up in the pub despite his refusal --he didn't know she'd been sent by a friend who wanted to see if her boyfriend was a womaniser and whether he'd fall for Saskia's seduction, however Saskia mistook Andreas for the boyfriend---he was nevertheless protective about her. Liked how he'd warned his sister about disturbing her when she was sleeping or seeing that she was shaded by an umbrella in the sun because of her pale skin and telling Athena off whenever she tried to put Saskia down.
What I also liked was that although he tolerated Athena because of his grandfather, he did not let have her way with him. My favorite scene pertaining to Athena was when they were all sunbathing and she tells Andreas she'll put oil on his back and Saskia immediately tells Andreas, "I'll do it darling," adding "fiancee privilege" to it. I only wished that when he sent Athena packing he'd done it in front of Saskia and his family instead of going to her room and telling her to leave.
I also liked Andreas's family, his sweet mother, his impish and friendly sister and his wily old grandfather too.
I thought the way the friend describe her boyfriend for Saskia to identify and she going with it was pretty silly. "He'll be the best-looking man there. He's gorgeous, . . .fantastically good- looking, with thick dark hair and the most sexy mouth you've ever seen. Oh, and he‟ll be wearing a blue shirt—to match his eyes. He always does. I bought them for him.‟
But, I found myself laughing when Saskia mentions about the shirt and eye coloring to Andreas. "I love the colour of your shirt,‟ she added huskily as she leaned closer. "It matches your eyes..."
"If you think that you must be colour blind; my eyes are grey.‟
Enjoyed all the drama and angst. The epilogue was awesome. Overall, an enjoyable book. -
I’m not really a fan of this author but decided to read this one anyway.
I won’t go into how the heroine found herself under the hero’s control as it’s weird and the way the author describes the heroine’s character it’s not something that you can imagine her doing. But what he wants is a fake fiancée to ward off the other woman his grandfather wants him to marry, she’s older than him had been previously married and has 2 children. The hero has no respect for the heroine and isn’t very pleasant to her, mostly because he wants her and is pissed at himself for that. What I found odd was he had absolutely no problem telling the shy virginal heroine exactly what he thought of her, but he seemed totally incapable of telling the older other woman to shove off. It didn’t make sense. -
that SOB called her a harlot! ? but I have to forgive him he is greek and sexy!
-
This one is much better than
Proof of Their Sin.
Andreas and Saskia have a good chemistry. They just worked. -
This brought back memories .... Oh my 😂😂
My mills&boon days .... I used to be crazy about these books back in my high school days 🤭🤭🤭
I decided to read this on a whim as I used to love Penny Jordan and it was like taking a trip down memory lane hehehe
Typical Mills and boon ....short light read
4 stars for the nostalgia
3.5 stars for the book 📚 -
Bit unsavoury that the other woman had tried to seduce the hero when he was 15 and she was 22.
I didn’t feel any chemistry between the hero and heroine. Next minute they’re both in love but it didn’t ring true.
A boring story. -
Oldschool classic by Penny Jordan. The Harlequin queen of angsty romance :-D
Penny's typical heroine:
Week chickSubmissive character, who lets othersstep onmistreat her, especially Heroes, usually due to a miscommunication. Throughout the whole book, she doesn't defend herself / explain the misunderstanding, and lets others think the worst of her.Penny's typical Hero:
1) 80's (british) macho guy, who has it all figured out and blackmails heroine
2) 80's (british) guy, who is gentle, in love with heroine, and treats her nicely
3) Greek mogul, who will marry heroine because she was a virgin (as he grew up in such culture), could be also 1 or 2 or combination of both
4) Arab prince / royalty, could be also 1 or 2 or combintion of both plus all that cultural thing from 3) applies90% of Penny's books follow this scheme, it is so predictable... However, I do enjoy reading something predictable from time to time. For a long time Penny Jordan was the only author of angsty romance, so I can't judge her for that :)
This specific novel is combination of no. 3 and 1 and all that heroine discription applies. Add some repulsive OW, who harasses the heroine and here we go - novel by Penny Jordan with some HEA, right after it all gets FINALLY communicated :)
-
It was fine. I finished. Not super memorable, but entertaining enough. 🤷🏼♀️ I liked the innocent h and the j/p H. I liked the blackmail and the throw-back morals and attitudes of the H.
These early 2000’s books have PC’d themselves out of any sort of plot more than comfortably warm, sadly.
⚠️SAFETY SQUAD SPOILERS⚠️
- No cheating or sharing
- OW drama - there’s a gal trying to make trouble, but the H actively dislikes her
- OM drama - the H thinks the h is a gold digging harlot and assumes all her interactions with men are of the seductive variety
- no dubcon
- h is a (20-something) virgin, and H discovers that the Old Fashioned Way
- the H is a (30-something) experienced man -
After being mistaken for an escort by the H, the h found herself being blackmailed by the H into pretending to be his fiancée.
A pretty typical blackmail story where the h and H find that they actually loved each other all along. There is a vile wannabe OW who attempted to seduce the H when he was 15 and she was an adult. She was cold, petty and completely dislike-able.
I enjoyed the book but there was nothing really spectacular to grab me.
