This book embraces the magic of Walden. The author appreciates Thoreau's sense of humor and irony and helps us understand how Henry will use it to convey different shades of meaning and layers of truth. -
It's a good readable analysis of Walden and other writings by Henry David Thoreau. Here is a favorite quote of mine. "Walden is not the diary of a day laborer who supported himself on six weeks' work and spent the other forty-six loafing on the grass. It is a manuel of stern discipline, the record of a search for the buried life of the soul." (p. 37)
