Read for my son and daughter. I introduced this book to my son when he was going to have a younger sibling. Now we read again to remind him what he did when baby came and when baby grew up and when baby ready to play with him. It’s a cute book and he likes it.

Text-to-Self Connection: How does the story connect to your personal experiences or background?

When I had my daughter in 2016, my son was 3 years old at the time. He was excited about having a new baby in the house. Although he has two older sisters and was never an only child, this was the first time he would be an older brother. I bought this book and read this to him to help him transition into that mindset. He loved the book and loved how the characters were a boy and a baby sister which mirrored his own life. This book was perfect during that time, but I still enjoy pulling it out to read to him when he needs a gentle reminder on how to be patient and gentle to his younger sister.

Great book for 2-4 year old boys becoming big brothers for the first time. Unlike most books with this or similar titles, this one starts once the baby comes home. Luke wants to play with his new baby sibling but the baby only sleeps and eats. Luke must wait for baby to get older. Even when baby sits up, he's still not ready to play planes. But one day he is ready! And Luke rolls a ball with him and they laugh! They're finally ready to play together!
My 2.5 year old loved this book. And I think it'll really help him understand that baby is too little right now, but soon he'll be able to play.

I read this book to S several times while we were waiting for L to be born and then read it to L while waiting for F to be born. This ended up being one of my favorites in the "anticipating a new sibling" genre because it clearly lays out what a baby can and can't do. The big brother is allowed to express a bit of frustration, but also shown ways to be helpful as he waits for his baby to actually become an interesting playmate. Although the book is "I'm a Big Brother" my daughter enjoyed reading it just as much.

This is a cute board book to help children understand what it is like to become a big brother (or sister). The main character -- Luke -- is eagerly awaiting the day he will be able to play this Baby (his younger sibling). He asks his parents each day until one day Baby grabs his toy train. He then finds appropriate ways in which to play with Baby.

While I understand why the author just names Luke (as he is the big brother) and not the baby (probably so the baby could be either male or female), I did get tired of saying baby over and over. I wish the baby had a name.

Not my favorite plot LOL but my son loved to read it while I was pregnant waiting for his sibling to be born.

Getting a new sibling is hard. As a child, it may feel like the walls are caving in on you. Things are changing, Mommy's tired, a baby is crying, you can't play with them yet, you're getting less attention, etc...This book could serve as a great tool to put into words, what you want to convey to a child that may be experiencing "the new sibling blues." You may have to re read it weekly but thats okay!

"This was a was an amazing book for our eldest son. He was very young when he became a big brother but the mum looked like me and the setting resembled our home town. It was a very familiar way for him to understand what a blessing it was to have a baby brother and all the cool things they could do together."

A perfect book for my almost 2yo son to get him used to the baby on the way. It's sensitive and honest - in imagery and routine. I love that the mom's clothing is a little disheveled and that the Daddy is around a lot.

We'll probably be reading this one a lot in the coming weeks/months!!!
