Excerpt: This is a listing of significant characters in Charlaine Harris's The Southern Vampire Mysteries / Sookie Stackhouse novels only. HBO created a television series called True Blood based on this series. Sookie is the protagonist and narrator of The Southern Vampire Mysteries, and resides in the fictional town of Bon Temps, in rural, northern Louisiana. In the first novel, Dead Until Dark, she describes herself as being 25 years old, with blond hair and blue eyes. She also states: "my legs are strong and my bosom is substantial, and I have a waspy waistline." She is written to wear a ladies size 8-10. Sookie, although not highly educated, is well read and has an extensive vocabulary, mainly attributed to her affinity for her "word-of-the-day" calendar. Although Sookie appears to be human, she possesses telepathic abilities, which manifested at a very young age. She is able to read most human minds, and after meeting the vampire Bill Compton, learns that she can not "hear" Bill's thoughts.* She discovers that while it is possible to read the minds of other supernatural creatures, they do not "broadcast" as clearly as true humans. Sookie lives in her ancestral home, which she inherits after her grandmother, Adele Stackhouse, is murdered in the first book. She has one sibling, her older brother Jason Stackhouse. In the sixth book, Definitely Dead, Sookie discovers she is part Faerie. Sookie has several Fae relatives, including twin...

I was surprised I liked these books.....but did. Love the various creatures....people. A good continuing story. Can't wait to read the rest.

So Much better written than the Eclipse series.....no comparision.
And now am hooked on Trueblook as well.

  • Peggy

reading these books was like eating a bag of mini milkyways. didn't improve my life in any way or make me a better or smarter person, but it was fun.

  • Nicki Youngsma

Fun series. Reading these is like eating junk food! My biggest irritation is that the love triangles/interests get overwhelming at times, but a series well-worth reading. The books go fast.

  • Roxanne

Fluffy, but definitely a fun, easy read. something to take your mind off things.

  • Kayla

These six novels are in a series called the Sookie Stackhouse novels. Sookie is a fairy who at first does not know what she is. All that she knows is that her powers happen when she is in a situation where she feels threatened or that someone she loves is threatened. She is in love with a vampire named Bill Compton who has been alive for 1000+ years. She is a typical southern belle and the whole series is about her trials and tribulations that come with being in love with a vampire and having unseen powers yourself. I would recommend these books to anyone who likes the hit series True Blood on HBO.

I think these books were like Skittles or M&M's.
It's candy, not good for you but good to you.
Like Skittles, where they are all pretty much the same but maybe a hint of a difference in taste (when there are plot twists & turns in the stories). Then Like M&M's where they melt in your mouth but not in your hand. I guess that portion is an analogy of how until you read the books, you won't realize how sucky the TV show is (Well the tv show is sucky... no, pretty sucky in my opinion. & I have a right to that, don't I?!).
Or maybe my analogies suck & I just really want some candy right now, but Que Sera Sera!!

I literally could not put these books down, which happens to me rarely. They're so clever and gritty. I love the romance, I mean I am a woman! They stay breezy with this complex undertone. I actually wasn't too thrilled with the latest installment but I got over it for a already perplexed love of the characters! Can't wait for the last one!

  • Shannon

I was hoping for less romance and more mystery. At least I didn't always feel the need to slap some sense into Sookie for waxing codependent. Not a bad read--it had interesting moments--but this book was not for me.

  • Carol

Love this series! Very humorous, keeps me going while I walk Bella! Can't wait for the next installment.

  • Tammy

I can't help it. In a week and a half I read all the books in the series this far. I love them and now I am just sad there are no more to read.

  • Chelsea

I have a total book crush on Eric. That's all I have to say about that.

  • Debbie

It must be amazing because I couldn't get enough of her books!

  • Amber Ivers

I loved every one of theses books. The moment that I picked it up, I couldn't put them down. I finished this series in two weeks. I am currently re-reading.

  • Marge

Why didn't I discover these sooner? I do this ALL the time--read books or see movies or TV series long after they've first come out!!!

  • Kim

Loved the whole series - they are a fun brainless read - not quite as explicit as the tv show -at least my brain doesn't go there when reading a book!

  • Rebecca

They get fluffier. I love an easy read sometimes but the repeated info is cut and paste paragraphs at points. Not high literature, still I keep reading :)

  • Cathrynne Oliver

i haven't read allof them but hope to by the end of january :D

  • Heather Corn nelson

    Loved the whole series.
