I read this book for a doctoral seminar on philosophical theology. The book contains 85 essays by various philosophers, many of whom are Christians of various stripes, though others are atheists, skeptics, members of different religions, etc. Therefore, the essays might contain orthodox theology or references to God such as "merself" or "ze." Like any multi-author book, the quality of the chapters ranges from lame to very good. However, since each essay is probably around 3,000-4,000 words, they are often introductions to a particular issue (an attribute of God, a particular religion, an area of apologetics, etc.). Each entry does have a bibliography of suggested readings, which makes it helpful.

The better entries gave an overview of how a particular doctrine, attribute of God, or philosophical problem has been handled historically, and what the arguments for each side have been. I think the book would be better if there were fewer chapters of greater length, and if each author used a similar format (discussion of problem/issue, historical arguments from various sides, current areas of debate and research, the author's own views).

This book is a little hard to read because of the way it is printed. Each page contains roughly 600 words, whereas many other books might have around 400. That saves a lot of paper, but it makes it harder to read.

A really good introduction to analytic philosophy of religion. Every chapter contains concise information about the relevant topic and is written by a leading scholar in their field.
