Scarygirl Reviews

A fairly sophisticated wordless story for tweens and older. A mystery adventure with lots of color. Scarygirl and Blister are best friends. No one knows anything about her, but her dreams are full of strange and disturbing visions. Scary girl has to find out the secrets of her past that are implicit in her dreams. I like it.

I am so glad a rescued this book, it was left beside the road. I love it. I can tell the artist is a perfectionist. Can't wait to get the next book.

It is signed by the author/artist too.

Beautiful drawings, but I got bored after a while.
    Not my style.

  • Alexandra Lowrance

    What?....

  • Michelle Gray

The illustrations were colorful and imaginative but I wish the story had at least some words.

This book is like a box of surprises. Awesome artwork all the way through. Saturated with edible-seeming colors and fantastical dream shapes. At least half the pages would make great art prints on their own. It's wordless, and I have to admit that sometimes I was a little lost as to what was happening, but I don't care. This is a book I will keep in the house, within easy reach, because I'll want to peruse it from time to time. And the sketchbook pages at the back are wonderful! Surprisingly different style from the finished pages, and awesome in their own right.

    considering a 4.5/5

I wasn't a huge fan of the character designs at the beginning but soon enough i started loving them.
In particular the use of psychedelic colours and setting designs were GORGEOUS. There was so much detail put into each panel i could stare at each page for over 5 mins ( which is really long seeing as how usually I just read and run ) Also the story was quite intriguing and i really loved it more and more as i got through it

One thing for certain this graphic novel would make a fantastic movie

I don't mind wordless picture books or wordless graphic novels, but sometimes they can be a little too long. I like words to go along with the pictures. I got tired of looking at the pictures about halfway through. What I read, I thought was okay, but I had no interest in finishing. My 7-year-old (who reads on a 5th grade level) took a look at a few pages and decided it wasn't for him either.

What I enjoyed most about this graphic novel is the wonderful artwork! The fact that no dialogue was used, making the story rely completley on the artwork for its direction, made the journey more interesting. I'm looking forward to the next chapter in the story.

This is a cute graphic novel intended kids. It has beautiful artwork and has no words. Scarygirl is a side-scrolling adventure game that many kids will be familiar so some kids will be automatically hooked.

  • Sam Hughes

Oh my! Such delicious delicious eye candy! A feast on every page.

  • Ashlei

no words at all, beautiful artwork, might be a good intimate read-aloud for third, fourth and fifth graders in small groups, first part of story, intro to main characters, bit of a cliff-hanger

  • David McLean

The first 'graphic' novel that I have read.

  • Shawna

While this one is wordless, the complex pictures make it unsuitable for younger children who might enjoy "Owly".

  • Jess Smiley

    Visually verbose.

  • BambiiBooks

Great graphic novel . Loved the colours and story and characters . Great .

    6.5/10, needs words.
