    The Note By Mike O'Mary

    ISBN: 978-0-9825794-0-4

    Pgs 88

    5 out of 5 Hearts

    Cover:

"One of the most beautiful and powerful things any of us can do is to let other people know they are appreciated. A simple not of appreciation can change the recipient's life. Equally important, showing appreciation and sharing your positive feelings with others can change your life."

'The Note' By Mike O'Mary is based on a true life event. you get to learn quite a bit about Mike. From his family troubles as a child/teen, to the awesome relationship he now shares with his baby sister, Sharon. She is the one responsible for this book in the first place. For one Christmas, she decided to write Mike a hearfelt note about an important memory they shared. That one note has changed Mike's life, so he decided to share this life changing event with all of us. This book is basically a how to guide on writing notes to important people that you may have forgotten. It reminds us that a note doesn't have to be super long to effect the person it's being sent to. Also, he pushes for hand-written notes over electronic ones, saying they tend to mean more to the recipient. He gives examples of excuses people give as to why they don't write them (too busy or they already know how I feel), the 4 steps to show someone how you feel when you write a note and examples of special occasions to do so. Such as weddings, graduations and funerals.

"Every note you send matters more than you can imagine." - Mike O'Mary

You never know when that one note you send could change that person's life. Just like Mike's.

I received 'The Note' from a giveaway on Good reads. As I read this fantastic book, I felt the urge to write notes of my own. This is a great read for those who are trying to find a quick read, as well as, a meaningful one. It's not often you find a book that is so small, but packs such a powerful punch.

Mike has started a website to help with notes called:

    http://www.dreamofthings.com

    or the blog at
    http://dreamofthings.com/category/blog

On it he has more information and advice, gift books, gift cards, free e-cards and videos that can be shared with your friends and family.

Writing letters and notes has long been a favorite pastime of mine. When I came across The Note, I had to pick it up and read it.

Consisting of only 88 pages The Note is a quick read. Yet in those 88 pages O'Mary shares a story with enormous impact. One so powerful it makes you stop, take stock and think.

A note sent to O'Mary at Christmas one year by his younger sister in which she shares a memory with him becomes the catalyst for The Note. This little book falls into the genre, "gift book." In and of itself, it is a gift from O'Mary to whomever reads it.

Encouraging the reader to share with others appreciation, gratitude and even love in handwritten notes or your method of choice, O'Mary shows us ways to let people know our feelings. It's that simple. A word of appreciation, a note of thanks can be life-changing for someone. It was for Mike O'Mary.

If you've never been a letter or note writer, O'Mary walks you through how it's done. Give yourself a gift -- read The Note.

My Recommendation: For everyone, young and old, male and female, as a gift or for yourself. This could be the difference in how we all relate to each other.

I received a copy of this from Goodreads.

The Note was basically a reminder for me to share my feelings.

I am already a person who openly shares my appreciation. I grew up with a father who was not a weathly man, but he performed small acts of kindness all of the time.

I was a fan of Princess Diana and she was a faithful note writer --- almost obsessive about it.

Often times I actually create my own cards which shows a person/group that they are special.

Once you get in the habit, it comes naturally. In addition, if I do NOT feel good about something, I may also write a note/letter describing my feelings.

The last verbal thank you I gave was to the girl at the sandwich shop who made a fabulous sandwich for me. I told her she "made my day" with her great sandwich. (I had a few special requests and she followed them perfectly.)

The last note I wrote was to my neighbor. She has lived next to my family for years and she is thinking of selling her house and moving into a condo. I told her that we could not have asked for a better neighbor and I just wanted her to know that.

I agree with so many points Mike O'Mary makes. Hand written is really special. (I have saved cards/documents from my parents who are deceased just to see their handwriting. It always makes me feel close to them.) For me, snail mail is my preference. I love getting something that I can hold in my hands and feel. I am a very visual person (I loved the cover of the book and the photography inside.)

This book didn't really "wow" me because I already am a firm believer/follower of the message. It was a confirmation to keep doing what I'm doing.

For some reason, Mike decided to "follow" me on goodreads. I didn't know Mike so I wasn't sure what to think. So I found him here and looked at some of his books. The book, "The Note," seemed to be a good match for me so I ordered it. It came today and I read it very quickly. In this often seemingly hostile world, this book is one everyone should own and read often. Like I said, it's a quick read. In it, Mike gives a personal example of the impact even a short, heart-felt note of gratitude can have on a person. I think these types of notes are of vital importance to remind us that even the smallest forgotten incident can have a lasting impact on someone else. So, get Mike's book and send that note.....in fact, send lots of notes. You are only one person, but someone has made a positive impact on your life so let them know, even if it has been years since you last spoke. Go on. Do it now. The biggest thing we carry with us is regret. Don't regret that you didn't take the time to tell someone they made a difference.

Need another good book on a similar theme? Check out Karen Armstrong's newest book "12 Steps to a Compassionate Life." We have to work together to make the world a better place. We can't let the politicians, religious fanatics and ignorant ruin our world. We have some work to do so let's get started. Go write that note.

I did not win the giveaway, but this book interested me in that I like to write notes and send cards! I found the website and ordered 3 copies (because of the deal). I figured I'd give a couple away to my friends who like to write and/or struggle. It's a good book. God deserves all the glory, but he was never mentioned. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is mentioned several times in the Bible. It's God's word! Period. When reading, I saw God's word all over this book, but yet he was not praised! So I am. Praise you Heavenly Father for showing Love! Love conquers all. For without you, we can do nothing and we are nothing, for you created us perfectly!

The author received a note from his sister thanking him for a great memory. He now wants everyone to thank people in our lives for who they are. He gives four steps to get started and encourages us to write the notes, but states that any communication is good. The note helps both the giver and the receiver feel better. He challenges us to write one note a week for a year. Good idea.

I won my copy thru Library Thing, what a powerful little book! I really enjoyed it and love the message behind it. The quotes are phenomenal and I love the pictures. A simple note really can change a person's outlook, and show them better insight to their lives. A definite keeper to any library.

I received my copy of the Note last Thursday. I just finished reading it. I'm going to have to write a note to someone too. I really liked the book.

  • Amy

My Review: I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this book but it was great. I loved the short sentimental story at the beginning about receiving that meaningful note. Then the book goes into how to make that same impact on others and how to go about sending your own notes. I have really enjoyed writing letters in the past few years but have fallen off the past few months and this is a real motivator to get going again. You can read just the story or you can read the whole book, or you can even take it a step further and get involved or send messages of your own gratitude or love.

This book is a book I received for Goodreads first reads giveaway.
It was short read on how to write letters to people and the importance of letting them know you care. It was kind of boring but I understand the basic meaning behind it and that was good. I think the author could better spend his time writing other things because he is not a bad writer but this book nearly put me to sleep.
