"Thusness and Image" is a photographer’s journal that examines how a photographic image may be used to depict spiritual contemplation. The text discusses concepts by early Buddhist logicians such as Dignaga, Dharmakirti, Chandrakirti and others. Special consideration is given to Dignaga’s theory of negation (apoha) juxtaposed against contemporary semioticians, deconstructionists and essayists such as Derrida, Foucault, Barthes, Flusser, Sontag, etc. The more than 150 photos are of spiritual contemplatives in Asia taken over a thirty year period.
