It took a while for me to get into this book, and I didn't realise it was part of a series until I finished it.

Simon in his acknowledgment page at the commencement of this book thanks members of the Fremantle Children’s Literature Centre and ads that he hope the book doesn’t ‘creep you out too much.’ As we have come to know at Gold Coast Writers Simon is a very entertaining and giving writer.
This is the third book following teenage amateur sleuth Jade Draper. The first two starting with his debut book ‘Doctor Id’ and followed by ‘Cybercage’. In the same vein ‘The Stalking Zone’ does send chills up and down the readers vertebrae.
Three teenagers trying to solve a computer hate mail mystery take a drive in the country to question a former fellow student. They drive into beautiful bush terrain that also happens to be the territory of a psychotic killer who enjoys treating his victims as prey to be hunted down. The cocoon of urban safety is totally removed from Jade and her two friends Win Tran and Lucy Van Daal, as they literally find themselves running for their lives.
Simon has developed his central characters further from the original books. Jade comes to terms with her frightening nightmares as a form of premonition that can help her. Wing is growing in understanding of his fathers involvement in the Vietnam War by reading his fathers diary and letting the knowledge seep into his being as he struggles from adolescence to manhood. Lucy has also matured from the blond bimbo into a contributing part of the trio’s problem solving team.
The end is dramatic and the twist relating to the hunters experiences in Vietnam round the story off beautifully.
As always with Simons suspense filled books, they are the perfect gift for the young adult in your family. Please don’t hesitate to read the book before you put on the gift wrap, you will enjoy being ‘creeped out’ too.
