Pride Not Prejudice Reviews

I've only read a sample of Dixon's book When She's Shy so far but I feel a little disheartened. I love so many of Dixon's fmcs like Georgie and Liz from IPB - they're hot, they're funny and they're just realistic, genuine women. In this sapphic romance, we have a MEGA shy fmc who's already in love with the love interest from the beginning and the love interest is...sweet-ish I guess? Hopefully when I get a moment to read the full thing, it maybe improves, but I'm a little disappointed with the sorta boring and unmoving approach to Dixon's sapphic romance 🙁.
-
i think When She's Shy is Ruby Dixon's first sapphic story (if she has another i didn't see before) and i'm excited about it👀
-
When She's Shy by Ruby Dixon: I loved reading this FF novella!!
-
The Price of Lemon Cake by Jennifer Ashley - 3 stars. I've read book one in this series so am familiar with some of the players. The story is fine; it just made me want to go read more of the Kat Holloway stories.
Invincible by Kerrigan Byrne - 2 stars
Requires you to have read the Moray series to understand what's going on, which I haven't. Apparently, this is a revision of a previous story which changes of object of desire from female to male, which works for this collection. I just think Byrne writes in a bombastic way that isn't my preference.
When She’s Shy by Ruby Dixon - 3 stars. Another Risda story, but a Sapphic one and so sweet!
The Kraken and The Canary by Camille Duplessis - 4 stars. This is a beautiful story, a prequel for her previously published two books. She's a new author and they are available on KU.
Mafia Brute by Mila Finelli - 3 stars. Of course Mila Finelli is the pen name of Joanna Shupe who writes beautiful romances, which is why I didn't hate her gay Euro mafia short story.
To Be Fair, They Were Pleather by Kristan Higgins - 5 stars. Hilarious and charming, as Kristan Higgins stories often are. I haven't read her last few books. Maybe I should.
Lady Waverly’s Lover by Amalie Howard - 3 stars. Very angsty love story between a young artist and a highborn widow. The paintings sounded amazing.
The Sweetest Chocolate Drop by Piper Huguley - 4 stars. Piper Huguley writes such beautiful prose and twists your heart strings while doing so. I think this wrapped up too quickly but was otherwise well done.
Escape to New Zealand by Rosalind James - 4 stars. This is a beautiful story! I'm sure it would help to know all the other characters and their stories since Luke and Hayden come in at the end of a 14 book series, but Rosalind Russell did her best to bring the reader up to date. I enjoyed this enough I may go back and read Zora and Nyree's stories.
Billionaire and the Beast by Darynda Jones - 1 star. Some hellhound something. I'm not sure the plot makes any sense.
Dirty Dare by Mira Lyn Kelly - 4 stars. This is also part of a long running series but is an easily accessible and very sweet second chance at love.
Drive Me Wild by Kim Loraine - 1.5 stars. A novella at the end of a long running series about cowboys in Montana on a reality show, starring two musicians whose careers have stalled and who need each other for a new act. They make music, they fall in love. I hated both of them.
Werewolves save a Kitten by Kathy Lyons - 4 stars. I've read a lot of werewolf stories, but this one was the weirdest and wildest of them all, and I loved it. There are three books that come before this story and now I want to read them.
Always Love Me by Clare Rebecca McCarthy - 2 stars. I didn't like the non-chronological format. Hard to follow. And it was more about anger management than romance.
What Lovers Do by Janna MacGregor - 1 star. The heroine and her 2 fellas are the most perfect, the most devoted 3 people in all of Regency England and the mean, evil bigots just won't let them live together in peace. It's so boring! The villains are obvious and not even interesting on their own. It was so tedious. I skimmed it. It's an offshoot novella of her Cavisham Heiresses series.
Caelan: Guards of Clan Ross by Hildie McQueen - 1 star. Two laconic Scotsmen decide they love each other in the Highlands. They shoot arrows, the throw axes. It's so boring but mercifully short.
Potential New Girlfriend by Sara Ney - 4 stars. Short and sweet and funny. Apparently, the beginning of a longer story. I would read it.
Johnson Jones’s Diary by Robyn Peterman - 1 star because it's just not my kind of banana-pants-crazy-sauce urban fantasy universe. From a series called Hot Damned.
Her Princess at Midnight by Erica Ridley - 3 stars. A Sapphic Cinderella with some interesting twists.
Love Wins by Cynthia St. Aubin - 2 stars. From her series urban fantasy series Tails from the Alpha Art Gallery. The theme is very much anti-men with a side of Hansel & Gretel. The tone seemed bitter to me, which I understand. But I wouldn't read more of it.
The Inspector and Mrs. Mac by April White - 4 stars. A coda to her series Immortal Descendants, this is a love story for those on the margins, and for who they protect. -
«—El tiempo es irrelevante cuando encuentras a la persona con la que estás destinado a pasar el resto de tu vida. Tú eres esa persona para mí. Creo que estoy enamorado de ti. Nunca me he sentido así por nadie, como si estuviéramos conectados. Como si me entendieras mejor que nadie. Estoy perdido sin ti.»

Mila Finelli -
When She’s Shy by Ruby Rixon:
A heartwarming lady blue alien + lady human romance set in my favourite comfort series universe, Risdaverse? All the yes. Give me some alien-human culture clash and a velvety blue-skinned coochie. This was short, sweet, and sexy.
But I wish it had been dual POV. And there was the dreaded novella time jump during some of the flirty-flirty dating part of the romance. No flirting off-page! I want it all. -
1,763 pages. yeah. 1,763 pages in the kindle version according to goodreads. it took me multiple renewals of the ebook to get through it all. there's only so much smut i can read at once, and M-M isn't really my thing.
the nook/epub version (which for some odd fucking reason always seems to have way less page counts even though they are not abridged versions) is listed as having 1,423 pages, which doesn't match up with the print books or kindle. but because this is the version i read, this is where i got my page counts for the individual stories, and they will not match up properly. where i could find them, i posted the different page counts from goodreads, but most of the short stories aren't listed separately on goodreads.
my only complaint is as with all romance short stories, the insta-love irritates me. as a whole i'd only give the book 3 stars. its just not my thing. but there are a few authors i follow and i read this mostly for their stories.

-drive me wild by kim loraine - ryker ranch series. killian and jameson, two failing musicians, are forced to work together or be dropped from their label. the first half is nothing but annoying bickering and petty insults from both parties. not a turn on, and not enjoyable to read. eventually they let their instalove out. until jameson decides he *has* to leave for killian's sake. never mind they love each other. and finally killian goes after jameson and they get their happily ever after. i didn't care for all the hurtful insults in this one. the print version is divided into three separate print volumes. i read the nook version from my library which has all the stories in one ebook. however, 1763 pages is a lot of pages! - so i'm choosing to count it as the three print books instead of the one ebook. it took me multiple renewals of the ebook to get through it all. there's only so much smut i can read at once, and M-M isn't really my thing. lotta insta-love.
for some reason the nook ebooks always have shorter page counts despite not being abridged versions. since i read the nook/epub version (only 1423 pages), the page counts i give are not accurate to the print or kindle versions.

- voto: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5
- livello di spice: 🌶️🌶️ -
To be honest, I read only one story in this, Kristan Higgins' entry, "To Be Fair, They Were Pleather." Which was vintage Higgins- deep characterization, funny, and hopeful. Higgins has a long history of being queer-friendly in her rom-com novels, usually including a gay or lesbian character as a background character. This would be, as I understand it, her first short story and her first with a lesbian main character.
Sam is a firefighter for the wealthy Stoningham town, almost 30, and has spent the last six months treading water with her girlfriend, British artist Judith. At a party being thrown by Sam's best friend's parents, she's stood up (again) by Judith. Throughout the evening, Sam recalls what drew her to Judith, and more importantly, why their relationship is imploding. Then she goes to the bathroom and... has a wardrobe malfunction with her pleather pants. (if you've ever seen that Friends episode where Ross is trapped in his girlfriend's bathroom with leather pants he can't get back on, this is a great version minus the shaving cream.) Sam trips, hits her head, and in an amusing scene, is transported to the local hospital for stitches, where she meets... Delilah.
I wanted more, which is why I'm rating this story 4 stars.
[Not interested in reading any of the other stories, sorry.] -
Pride Not Prejudice is a charity anthology from a number of authors.
My review is for Just For Me ( Escape to New Zealand #15) by Rosalind James.
I have never been to New Zealand but Ms James has a way with words and I feel like I know this country and her characters, I have fallen in love just by reading her wonderful words and Just For Me is a wonderful addition to the Escape to New Zealand Series. I was drawn in to Luke and Hayden’s journey from the first few pages and there was no putting down until the final word was read.
We have met Luke and Hayden in previous books but it’s now time fir them to get their own story and it’s a story thats entertaining but it will also tug on your heartstrings as this couple work through the issues that being in a MM relationship can have. Luke is afraid his career will be at risk whilst Hayden is the laid back partner who deals with problems is a different way, so what does the future hold …..one click now to find out.
I loved everything about this read, I loved catching up with familiar faces from previous books but what took this book to another level was the depth and strength of the characters, Luke and Hayden. This is a well written book with characters you can’t help loving. -
This review is for this book:
Just for Me by Rosalind James
Luke and Hayden appeared in a previous Escape to NZ book. They captured my heart then, so I was really glad I got to read more about them and their relationship.
It hurt my heart that both Luke and Hayden were judged, disrespected, and mistreated. It seemed like fate that they found each other after having their hearts and feelings bruised by previous partners. They found something in one another that most people would pay to have in their lives.
I love the way they stood strong together, and appreciated the people that supported their relationship. Luke being so stoic and Hayden's natural wit seemed to bring so much balance to their relationship.
This book also had a level of sensuality that can be found in the majority if this author's books. Loving, kind, caring, respectful, supportive, and generous are just a few of the words that came to mind while reading this book. I was glad to see Luke and Hayden get their HEA.
I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book. -
5 Star Review Pride Not Prejudice
A charity anthology from a number of authors:
This review is for:
Just For Me (Escape to New Zealand #15) by Rosalind James
Having read a number of books from Rosalind James I was excited to read Just For Me. As with other books in the series, her descriptive writing brought New Zealand to life for me.
From start to finish I was hooked in the story she wove; there was so much going on that I simply could not put this one down. Having met both Luke and Hayden before I could not wait see what Ms. James had in store for these two.
I felt for Luke, he wants to live his true life but is concerned he could damage his career whilst Hayden is a little more laid back, although he too has concerns. The struggles both of them go through were handled well by Ms. James.
It was wonderful to see some familiar characters pop up which added an additional layer to my enjoyment. Just For Me was well written with strong characters that I found I could easily relate too and a story line that kept me invested. -
Review of "Just For Me"
As a fan of Rosalind James' books, I had already met Hayden and Luke in "Just Come Over" and "Just Say Christmas." In her novella included in this anthology, we get an in-depth look at how their relationship developed. Rosalind handles their love story with humor and grace, without minimizing the struggles they face to be accepted. They deal with the disdain of their fathers, along with the love and support of their siblings. We see how hard it was for Luke to hide his sexuality from everyone and the fear and freedom of coming out. I laughed, I cried, and I fell in love with both of them.
If you are an avid fan of Rosalind's books or if you are new to her world, you will love her characters and her ability to take you around the world. -
Dirty Dare
5 Hearts
Dirty Dare is a novella in the Slayers Hockey series. It is also in the Pride not Prejudice collection. I have read all of the books in the Slayers series and have loved them all. This is the first MM and I thought it was fantastic!
Trevor hasn’t been to his hometown since he left after high school. It’s been four years since he saw the man who changed him. The man who stayed. And now, Trevor was back for a month since the off-season. He needed to get away from his ex. He just wanted to lay-low in a cabin by the lake. What he didn’t expect was for Cameron to change his life all over again…
We met Trevor aka Gulls in Dirty D-Man. I had a feeling we would get his story one day but I didn’t expect this and I loved it! I hope Mira writes more MM in the future. -
A brilliant celebration of true authenticity!
The authors of this book have embraced and celebrated love as it is when people live and love as their true selves. Every story (out of the many populating this book) pulls you into the unique world the author has created. As each story ended, I was torn between sadness that my journey to that world was ending and glee that there was another story, another world, and, most importantly, another love to get lost in. I bought this book because of a few authors I already know and adore (like Robyn Peterman) but this book has introduced me to many authors who now have space on my must read list. -
i read the MILA FINELLI novella, mm story: MAFIA BRUTE located 4.5 in her The kings of Italy series, an mm hot romance about Nik, Bratava mobster and Theo, Guiulio's friend (from Mafia Target #4 in series) and takes place mainly in the time Guilio and Alessio took refuge on Nik's Boat...
i loved it. Theo is such a colorful character and Nik is surprisingly an affectionate man both surprised of the love from what was supposed to be a short fling. little credibility issues about T's ignorance of the hints about his lover's identity and Nik's solving all issues that might separate or threaten them but all in all, they were so cute and hot together -
Hayden and Luke have an instant attraction, but they have several obstacles to meet in order to be together. Both of their families have certain expectations that are about to be shattered, and exes have left damage in their wake. But they both have supportive siblings and friends who help them navigate the situation. I'm just so glad Hayden got an HEA.
-
a must read
I loved this book there is something for everyone in this collection. Some stories melted my heart some had me laughing so hard I had tears. Love is love and every story in this book proves love knows no sex or color it’s just how one soul finds it’s other piece or pieces to complete it. -
Only read “When She’s Shy” by Ruby Dixon.
It’s always so cozy being back in Risdaverse. Ruby’s ?first wlw story. Cute but wish it was longer for the relationship building. There was a few cameos from other books. -
Review of When She's Shy by Ruby Dixon:
4/5 stars!
This is so cute and sweet! Ali and Haina really complement each other well. I just want more from them and their story when they became an actual mates. -
I paid $10 for Rbuy Dixon, maybe sometime I'll read the others....maybe not. So for Ruby book I'll go 3 stars and because it come with more I'll add a star. So all around 4 stars
