I have never read anything like these books. They let me climb into this era and feel its reality; sex, childbirth, daily struggle. Auel took us back in time with the feeling that she had lived there herself. I didn't just read her books, I experienced them.

If you take up this series, these are the only three books that you need to read in it. DON'T BOTHER READING THE REST!! They're garbage. I started the series a loooong time ago. As years went by, you could tell by the ever increasing length of time between title releases and the decline in the quality of plot and dialog that the author didn't want to write the series anymore. I don't know if she got tied into a contract or what, but you could tell that her heart wasn't in it anymore. Spoiler: they live happily ever after.

There are six books in the series, but stopping after the first 3 books is a pretty solid idea (the first three books have the best storytelling and plot, in my humble opinion) so this is a good investment.
-
I loved everything about this entire series. The scenery, characters, and wonderful story played out beautifully. The details makes you almost feel as if you are present watching their lives unfold before you.

Loved this series.
-
Valley of the horses was my favored of the 3
-
This was my one of the ultimate best as a young adult.
-
Another exciting adventure for the clan.
-
I read these back in the late 80s/early 90s and loved every word.

This is a very compelling series to read. It grabs you and pulls you in immediately.
One of the reviews states something like "You suffer a moment of displacement when you are whisked 2500 years away from the time of Ayla" I'm afraid it's very true.
I read all 3 over a weekend, when I bought them. I began "Clan..." Friday at 3:00 and finished "Mammoth..." Monday at 3:00 AM. Being a reader, this wasn't a difficult thing to do. I was amazed at how terrifically written they were. I had, prior to reading them, been somewhat "sneering" of them. But, afterwards, I couldn't wait for the next 2.
Now, I eagerly await the #6! -
Another hit!!! Valley of Horses brought Ayla to a new land and new friends. Friends that have never been friends to Clan. Ayla has a huge heart of compassion and an incredible will to survive. She survives very well and saves other lives in the process...good read!

The Valley of Horses by Jean M. Auel (1982)
-
As a historical read, it was very educational. As entertainment, it was really good.
-
dissapointing
-
Loved the series until towards the end when the descriptive phrases got too repetitive
-
Great continuation of the story!
-
Le tome 1 et le tome 2 sont biens. Les tomes 3, 4 et 5 sont à fuire!
-
Enjoying the series, fell off in a few places to read other things but overall a very unique and engaging story
