  I had a baby the very year this book came out and this was her favorite book for years. I mean, even as a 6 month old, she would sit up in a soft chair and turn the pages and look at the pictures (she was a very advanced child). She would crawl in my lap and want to turn the pages with me and have me read to her. I adore this book. This is one of my all time favorite books in the world because of the way it brought my daughter and me together so closely. I have shared it with many other young children and they all adore it. It is full of pictures of mother animals and their babies and each spread tells how much the mom loves her baby. If you want to read and share a wonderful, warm, loving, sweet book with the young kids in your life, you can't do better than this. It is a treasure. That baby I had the year this came out will be 21 in June and I caught her reading it just yesterday!

  Annotation: For babies to preschool (and up). Henri Sorensen’s illustrations of the animals and their habitats are detailed and life-like and compliment the written text extremely well. The book begins with a mother horse telling her child, “I love you as much as a warm summer breeze,” and goes on to show several different mother animals proclaiming their love for their children. The last page is of a human mother proclaiming her love to her newborn baby. The illustrations on the last page contrast to all the other pages because it dark while all the others are light. Additionally, the repetitive rhythm of the story is nice for early readers.
  
  Personal Reflection: This book is very special to me; I have been reading it to my son since he was a newborn baby. I also like how it teaches children that animal mothers also care for their children. However, I think that I enjoy this book more than my son does.

  Love the pattern. BOY do I not like that script font, which takes it to a cheesy place it does not need to go. I loved using this as a launch with preschoolers for describing our loves.

  PreSchool-Grade 1-Written in quatrains that break into couplets across each double page, this lullaby rhyme catalogues various animals and their offspring, describing each mother's testament of love. The mountain nanny goat says, "'I love you as much as the mountain is steep'"; the camel says, "'I love you as much as the desert is dry.'" The book ends with a full quatrain of love poetry from a woman to her newborn child. Sorensen's paintings are large and bright, spanning double-page spreads and extending to the edge of each page, with full backgrounds and panoramic views that enhance the animal characters. The deep tones, well-lit landscapes (which contrast effectively with the darkness of the final picture), and the multiple layers of opaque paint suggest a formality of portraiture that is not usually seen in children's books. The text, which is discretely tucked away in the corners of the pages where it does not interrupt the effect of the illustration, is set in a decorative italic font. The potential for sentimentality is certainly present, but Melmed carefully avoids the cute and tearful. While reading this book is certainly a satisfying experience, full of pathos and meaning for parents, it's likely to appeal more to them than to their children.

  One of the lovliest books I have ever read!
  
  This is certainly one I will read over and over again.
  
  The bond between a mother and child is so special and to see it celebrated in this book is very soothing to any child at bedtime or nap time!
  
  My favorite is when the loving Mother whispers to her baby," Now sleep, child of mine, while the stars shine above, I love you as much as a mother can love!"

  This is such a sweet book that I would love to use in my classroom when exploring families and how we love our families. Additionally, I think it'd be super cute to create a "I Love You As Much..." book for the children's families; therefore, they are able to show off their writing skills as well. This book is for the younger readers, so I would implement it in pre-k and kindergarten.

  This book was given to me at my baby shower for my daughter and I read it to her all the time. It's a very sweet book that is about the relationship between a mother and child... no matter human or animal. The animals in the book are very sweet and my daughter loves to point to each animal and say what it is. This is a wonderful book.

  This marvelous picture book is one of my favorites because of its delicate painting. I can imagine that the illustrator had as much love for his child and filial affection transcends in every brushstroke. I just love it!
