Margaret Atwood Presents features stories by Annabel Lyon, Caroline Adderson, Nancy Lee, Elise Levine, Lisa Moore, Kristi-Ly Green, and Sheila Heti. Brilliant, daring, funny, and frequently, these writers pull no punches when it comes to depicting society as they see it. In "Sally In Parts," Nancy Lee from Vancouver explores a young woman's unusual relationship with her body. In "Cancer," Toronto writer Kristi-Ly Green describes a primary-school class's ambivalent responses towards a poor little rich girl. Lisa Moore of St. John's, Newfoundland, brings a haunting, sensuous intensity to a tale of love in "Haloes," while Toronto's Sheila Heti upends traditional forms in the sharp urban parable, "The Princess and the Plumber."
Vividly brought to life through the voices of Liisa Repo-Martell, Mag Ruffman, Chapelle Jaffe, Genevieve Steele, Sandra Oh, Juno Mills-Cockell, and Mary Lewis, these stories herald an exciting new generation of Canadian women writers.

In this innovative anthology, Margaret Atwood shares her pick of promising women writers from Canada. These captivating stories by Nancy Lee, Caroline Adderson, Annabel Lyon, Elise Levine, Lisa Moore, Kristi-Ly Green, and Sheila Heti are narrated by noted female actors and introduced by Atwood herself. They're smart, edgy and often wickedly funny. Sheila Heti's ironic fairy tale "The Princess and the Plumber" features a frog that doles out sage advice to a lovesick workman. In "Sally, in Parts," Nancy Lee coolly itemizes the body of a young woman, while Caroline Adderson spins a mesmerizing immigrant myth in "The Chmarnyk." Available only on audio, this remarkable collection heralds an exciting new generation in Canadian fiction writing.
- Quote from the back cover of the cd case.
I am still learning to appreciate short stories, but since Margaret Atwood is one of my favourite Canadian authors and her name is prominent on this anthology I borrowed it from the library and listened to it while driving in my car. I could listen to Margaret Atwood all day. I love her voice!
Elise Levine's "Retiring" about Bobby and her husband is my favourite. I listened to it at least three times. In "Haloes" Lisa Moore painted many colourful visuals in my mind. "Chmarnyk" by Caroline Adderson piqued my imagination and I was sad when it ended and wished that it was longer.
I enjoyed listening to this and feel it deserves a solid 3 stars.
If you enjoy short stories, then this may "tickle your fancy". -
The stories were good short stories, but so short that I barely remember any of them or had time to really register what was happening before they were over! All the stories were well narrated (read), too, but because I can't remember half of them, I didn't enjoy it. Too short!
