Left Behind Series Gift Set (Left Behind, #1-6) Reviews

Perfect series to give unbelievers, or those on the fence. My Husband and Mom accepted Christ because of this series. Praise the Lord and thank you Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins!
Easy Read! It's the book of Revelation in the Bible put into a fictional setting. You get to love the characters!

My grandmother, who is a deeply devout Christian, gave me these as a Christmas present one year. I thanked her politely and placed them, actually more like buried them, in my bookcase. One day, I came across
them again while going through my bookcase, purging books that I had read and didn't feel like keeping anymore. For some reason, I opened up the first book and began to read. Needless to say, these books didn't make it into the Half Price Book pile. Now, I will say that I didn't come away from this series any more enlightened than before about God and His Plan for us, but they made for an engaging read. The characterizations are quite developed and the stories themselves are well written. You actually find yourself rooting for the heroes. Not a bad series at all.

I thoroughly enjoyed the series -- some volumes more than others -- so I felt the need to rate each one individually, but summarize here. I do believe that: (1) The series "dragged" on much longer than it needed to; the same story could have been covered in, perhaps, eight books with fewer characters. Toward the end I felt as though the profit motive may have overwhelmed the authors. (2) While some of the better scenes are downright chilling, there is also a bevy of superfluous and unrealistic dialogue (ie. some of the conversations in heaven seemed ridiculous -- this is heaven, not the post office). (3) Overall, I think the authors included too many unrealistic character traits among the central characters -- the pilot who almost cheats on his wife, the international news reporter who is a virgin at thirty. I would have preferred to see more "sinners" than saints, and I think it would have made the heartbroken moments deeper. Christians have messy, upended, broken lives just like everyone else, and maybe the more that is communicated the more people will be open to Christ. As C.S. Lewis pointed out, He cannot force anyone, he can only woo.

Reading this series of books made my heart rush me to God. How did Tim Lahaye know all those years ago what was going to happen now? It is as if he went in a time machine, visited 2000-2012 and then went back and wrote about it.

    Powerful!

    Mind Blowing!!

If you believe in God, and the devil and have accepted Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior I IMPLORE you to read at least 3 of these books, it will change your life and you will find yourself wanting to read and own at least 10 of them.

Simple writing, easy reading. Sped through them until about the 11th, and then it got to be tedious. The last book (12th) was what you're waiting for the entire series, but by then you've read about these people so much you are bored and quit reading a few chapters in.

Loved this whole series! Couldn't wait till the next installment was published and was sad when it was all over. Good writing, great characters, and very, very interesting.

I am currently reading Nicolae which is the third book of this Left Behind Series. It is so good I am having trouble putting either of them down before I finish reading. It has taught me lots of Revelation and the End of Times. I understand this is Tim Lahaye version of what he thinks is going to happen and I think it as close as anyone can get. Taking all the characters to each and every book is so great. Thank YOU Tim for writing this
I have read 7 books and now on the 8th, The Mark. I am having trouble putting them down. Read to 4 am last night. Every single book is wonderful. I received 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13 today thru the mail. Can't wait to finished them all. If you have not read YOU are missing out. It helps you understand the Bible more and I also have cds of Tim Lahaye Propesy.

I don't have the gift set but I do have all the books and this is one of the best series I've ever read. Once I picked them up I couldn't put them down. It's almost exactly how I picture the end times. It was very easy for me to put faces with the characters in my mind and to imagine everything they went through. Every year I say I'm going to re-read this series but I know I'll want to read them all straight through again and I've just not had time.

Being interested in Prophetic and Apocalyptic Eschatology, I found this series to be very interesting. My only complaint was that it didn't seem necessary to have 12 volumes in the series. With better editing, it could have been cut back substantially - without any of the story suffering.

I have read these a while ago. I like to read post-apocalyptic / Dystopian books. The religious twist and picking out what things in revelations mean was intriguing to me.

  • Brooke

It could have ended a few books earlier.

I have read the entire series more than once over the years. I like the first half of the series more than the last, and I love the message that Christ is the only way to eternal life. That’s the reason I’ve read the series more than once. I love the message and reading stories, even fictional, of people turning to Christ.

However, toward the end, especially in Glorious Appearing, there was a lot of scripture quoting. Some of that is needed, sure. But Tsion or Chaim bursting into two-page scripture quoting got old and was not realistic.

Also, I am not a feminist by any means. However, it seems that the main characters were men. The exception was Chloe. However, for being as smart and articulate as the book described her, she made some really stupid decisions. At least half of her storyline was about her bad decisions:
Taking off to scope out the Chicago safe house, which drew attention to the powers that be, so they had to move.
Venturing out in Chicago after seeing a point of light, which was Enoch and his group, which drew the attention of Babylon because of the moving around. So they had to move again.
Venturing out in San Diego when she saw GC activity was the worst. No phone, didn’t tell anyone she was going out. Her purpose was maybe to lead them elsewhere? What did she think was going to happen? She should have told her husband and Sebastian, then they could have formed a plan.

My point is, besides saying she was smart, and mentioning several times how she was good at running the co-op, she was a written as a character with a bad attitude and bad decision making skills. I never understood why she and Buck had a child or even wanted to, since it was very hard for her to stay in once place, always wanting to be in the middle of the action. That never made sense to me.
Leah Rose was also cast as a smart woman, but with a bad attitude. Hannah was great but a very small part of the story. It’s like the woman were bit players, in supportive roles of the men who did the real work. I don’t think that is realistic at all.

The first book was pretty good. As the series progresses, it gets a little boring and just seems to drag on and on. Probably would have been fine to leave out all this extra stuff the authors put in there, and just make it a posssible 5-6 book collection. As I said earlier, the first book and maybe the second are pretty good, but it starts to get really boring and slow paced past there

  • Sherri

I love these books! I am a born again Christian, thanks to Jesus Christ!! And these books really help you understand the Bible. Really opened my eyes!!! Pray for the world, we need them desperately!!! 🙏🙏
