Our Stunning Harvest: Poems Reviews
-
The first book by Ellen I read was the stunning Like a Beggar. I still read it endlessly, rejoicing in its beauty and mastery. I adore the new Ellen. Her last three books, at least, are absolutely magnificent. So I tracked her first ones and got them delivered. It is weird to see how much she has changed, evolved. It's quite evident how much she chisels her poems today and how much she has grown as a woman and a human being. This one is a terrible book, I have to admit. But I seriously recommend to everyone Like a Beggar, The Human Line or Mules of Love. There's where the great Ellen truly is.

Beautiful. Stunning itself! I don’t even want to be a mother, but if I ever became one I know Ms. Ellen’s poems would bring me comfort. I connected on a deep level with other themes, especially nature. The actual poem Our Stunning Harvest left me shook! This collection was published in 1985 but resonated with social and ecological issues we see today.

I found Ellen Bass' poetry rather underwhelming. Also, I hope that this is the only occasion on which I will read a poem addressed to a tampon. Very strange indeed.
