Love the photos
And love Bob Mackies creative designed. He’s truly one of my favorite designers. The book words were “yawn”. Need I say more? -
I started watching The Get Down on Netflix and realised how thoroughly I know nothing about the 70s -- I was alive for part of it, but too young to remember anything! So I am familiarising myself a little, just for fun, and this book was an enjoyable way to do it. Mackie was a designer who worked with lots of 60s and 70s stars, especially Carol Burnett and Cher, and this book is a little bit of moderately sensible (but very much of the period) advice on clothes and makeup, and a lot of reminiscenses of the various women he's worked with, including pictures of some of the clothes he designed for them. I am of the age such that glamourous 70s clothes look simply *ridiculous* to me, which makes it very interesting to see them in pictures and hear the designer talking about what he was attempting with them. It was a quick, fun read & I am curious enough that I have a photo-book of his work on order from the library.
