I'm a young teacher and I got connected with John in 2010 on Twitter. I began researching and reading his blog, and came across this book. I read it immediately, and really struggled to find points I could connect with. I was young, and I felt like philosophically, it was great. Pragmatically, not so much.
I just re-read the book as I'm going through my master's work...now that I have some experience behind me, I can connect more with John. I can picture the students. I can remember the policy meetings. John's point isn't that education is irreparably broken, but that we're losing sight of the humanity in the classroom. If you're a teacher - young or old - please read this book.
