Kate Mathers has her very own stalker, though she prefers to call him a secret admirer. Either way it’s a bizarre idea considering she’s never figured out how to keep any man in her life for long. Now one’s obsessed with her? It’s hard to believe—until her estranged father’s birthday gift is to hire her a bodyguard. Now the dangers are all too real. And so is the effect Joe Garity has on her heart.
Joe knows he’s a human wrecking ball when it comes to relationships. The embittered ex-cop tells himself he only took the job guarding Kate because he can’t stand to see the rug rats in her horse camp program in danger. Pretending to be her lover isn’t his idea of a perfect situation, but perfect goes a long way toward describing the chemistry between them. For once in his life, Joe finds he really doesn’t want to screw this one up—personally or professionally.
But if he can’t figure out who’s stalking Kate soon, her next birthday may be her last.
Warning: This title is full of horseplay, and horses AT play, tie-downs and tie-ups and the kind of hot obsessive animal passion some men will kill for.
Tame Horses Wild Hearts Reviews
-
Kate Mathers has what she calls a secret admirer, others including her undercover bodyguard Joe Garity call it a stalker. Kate doesn't know how Joe was able to sign up for her horse camp for children, but he is there and refusing to leave.
Ex-Cop Joe has one rule he lives by don't sleep with the person he is supposed to protect. The chemistry between Kate and Joe is undeniable and both find themselves unable to resist one another. What starts as a flirting quickly leads to something neither had ever hoped of finding, a relationship that works.
I started reading this and found I have read this before. Pretty good story, Joe is quite hilarious when he is learning to ride a horse in the beginning. -
3.5 Stars
Liked it well enough. The plot was fairly basic and not incredibly exiting, seeing as the stalker didn’t actually do much until the third act besides leave some poems and creepy pictures around for Kate to find; so don’t go in expecting some page-turning thriller, because the pace was rather slow and the suspense somewhere around the realm of nonexistence.
The characters were fine, didn’t hate them or anything, but they weren’t particularly memorable. Unfortunately their romance was rife with poor communication and misunderstandings worthy of a twelve year old instead of the thirty something adults Kate and Joe were supposed to be. Beyond that, the story relies too heavily on instalust to explain the connection between them, instead of proper conversations and emotionally intelligent feelings. If their inner thoughts revolved more around personalities and compatibility instead of how much they wanted to bang each other, I’d liked the story more.
The reason I gave it three stars is the spice. The sex scenes were very hot and well written, and Paige was able to sell the chemistry between Kate and Joe in a satisfying way. If you’re looking for good smut with a whatever plot, this is a good place to start.
The prose was good, unobtrusive and it flowed well, so the talent was there, just needed to be in service of a better tale. (Plus, the identity of the stalker was very obvious from the get go, so no mystery there). -
Wild Hearts Indeed!!
Sparks fly from the moment Kate & Joe meet, and never cease, not even until the very end.
For Kate, thanks to her father's miserable influence, never giving her the love, affection, or stability, that her mother didn't even bother giving her, when she walked out of her life. Instead he treated her as a priceless artifact, throwing money her way, and above all thinking he could buy her happiness.
Well Kate learned how to retaliate. Since the tender age of fourteen, she mastered the skill of taking her heart of the equation when having sex with another.
Unfortunately Joe's history isn't even better, having to deal with an absentee father, a mother who was never satisfied, and was drunk most of the time. He utterly managed to screw up every single relationship he had ever been in.
The Emotional Dynamics between Joe & Kate are irrefutable, they feed off of each other, and are able to heal the deep-rooted wounds left behind by their selfish parents.
Throughout this novel, you'll be rooting for these two strong willed individuals. Even though initially the casual sex between Joe & Kate is SIZZLING HOT!! It's not until midway through the story, it becomes intriguingly something more. Having you on the edge of your seat, especially when Kate's life hangs in the balance.
Once again I didn't have to flip to the other pages to discover when it would get interesting, Ms. Paige delivered it in every single page. I will never look at another horse in the same light ever again. I'll let you speculate, the hidden meaning behind that.
WELL DONE MS. PAIGE, THIS NOVEL DESERVES WELL BEYOND A 10 STAR RATING!! -
Tame Horses, Wild Hearts by Alison Paige
captured me first with it's humor and second by the love story of Kate Mather's and Joe Garity. Joe, our ever alpha, sexy as hell hero is an ex-cop now Bodyguard hired by her estranged birth father who has been receiving letters from Kate's stalker and self proclaimed "soon to be son in law". That alone gave me the chills, but Kate believes or rather likes to refer to him as her secret admirer, unknowing of ALL the photos and the notes that have gone to her father, everyone seems to be keeping things from her. Kate is a strong willed woman, no BS, no whining and absolutely NO apologies for her lust for casual sex. The woman is confident and makes no excuses for her desires. And with the arrival of Joe to Kate's City Camp program, she tried to not show her desire for the man too much while she scolds him for taking an underprivileged kids place in at the summer horse camp. Only to prove that he is a complete wreck on the horse. Joe can't deny his attraction for Kate either, and through the pages their relationship has some serious ups and downs as she learns his real reasons for being there and his lies. Clayton, Kate's step brother and the kids in the camp add some humor and drama along the way which make for an enjoyable read. Kate's secret admirer is getting angrier and braver as the threats get deadly and dangerous, but half way through the book his identity was easy to figure out. All in all an enjoyable read throughout even though I knew who the stalker was I couldn't stop until I hit my HEA ending! -
A very readable and likeable novel about a former cop who is now a professional bodyguard, hired by the estranged father of the target of a stalker, one that is becoming increasingly violent and angry. The scenario is a kids camp for city kids who never get a break, built around learning to ride and take care of horses. The bodyguard is in deep trouble over his attraction to his "subject" and this story has lots of emotional ups and downs. Both these people have been hurt and have decided that long-term relationships are just not for them -- they just can't seem to make them work. Just a very nice read.
