A blue moon's coming, and for shape-shifter Shannon McFelan, it's bringing nothing but trouble. Something she's got enough of already. Her body has mysteriously turned on her, going into Heat at the worst possible time. It will take all the cunning in her possession to survive this lunar cycle without finding herself mated. Vampire Nikolai Taranosky has waited centuries for his Chosen. He doesn't care that Shannon's a werewolf, and he knows exactly what's wrong with her. It's because of him that she's in Heat. By the waning of the blue moon she'll definitely be mated...to him! Publisher's Note: This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Dubious consent, sex while in shifted form, violence.

Nikolai's Wolf (True Mates, #3) Reviews

Absolutely hated this. It was full of scheming, manipulation, and for lack of better phrasing, sexual assault. The lead female of the story is chased and attacked, which was lead by her brother, trying to force her to mate with someone of his choosing. Then when things don't go his way, he forces her to run for her life, but leading her to another pack. Injured, she is rescued by another supernatural who takes over mind and forces her into a sleep trance, stalks her, changes her blood, has sex with her while she is not in her right mind, then mates her without her knowing.

I wish I could give this a negative star.

I loved the story one until. Nicolai, mated with her un knowingly? and when it was time for him to prove to her wolf that he was worthy? He totally pissed me off with his repugnance and forcing her to turn back into a human to finish the mating, like she was less than what she was.. that she was willing to let him treat her wolf like it was a disgusting secret just upset me to no end. so what she has to deny a part of herself to be with him? He jus comes off as a arrogant ass.

from word 1 of the first i read of this series, i knew this was the book i wanted to read. not only did i love the story and the main characters but the writer's storytelling and writing style improved exponentially by this book. still a short fast read and would have loved more of the main couple but overall this was a really enjoyable read and set up Shayla & Rory's book well

Sept. 11, 2011 ----> Yet another novella hard to rate.
I loved everything about it except the story of the main couple.
I loved to see the characters from previous books, the dialogues were great, world building also great, loved Rory-Shayla storyline (can't wait for their own book) BUT Shannon and Nikolai's relationship felt so wrong ..... at first she didn't know there was relationship evolving and that was extremely stalkerish. Secondly when they finally got together most of the time Nikolai manipulated Shannon's mind. And thirdly when they finally had some sort of courtship in what Shannon was actively participating it was mentioned only passingly a la the next two weeks went by in sensuous haze, he romanced her + then some quick explanations for it. I would've wanted to see the building of the relationship better not just see how Nikolai decided that she's his chosen, then almost complete the bonding and then wait for the time when she sexually isn't quite able to say no and go for it ....
Anyway, I have mixed feelings and I'm stuck with the rating. If it were just all the other stuff I would give it 4* but if it were only the relationship between Nikolai and Shannon it would be 2* or even 1* so yeah, all over the place.

Feb. 13, 2013 ----> I read it again, skimming the Nikolai/Shannon relationship and focusing more on the other stuff and decided to rate the book 3*

I enjoyed the story, but I gotta agree that Nikolai is an unlikeable male lead. In the other True Mate stories, the guys are very likable. This guy, however, is too controlling of Shannon. He basically controls her body and uses that control to get her to do what he wants. For such a strong Alpha as Shannon, it's kind of weird that she would be OK with that. The way he was in her head and influencing her rubbed me the wrong way. It seemed like she lost any intelligence that she had previously shown.

Now what I did like about it was Shayla & Rory! I can't wait to see how their story turns out! Those two are like oil & water! It's gonna be fabulous!

And it's nice visiting with old friends like Alex and Keisha & Hugh & Mary Elizabeth. That blue moon is no joke!

While not liking the main couple's relationship, I did enjoy the storylines with the supporting cast. And it's very nice to see that Shannon's brother is not as big a jerk as we thought he was. If you're reading the series, definitely get it. Just try to resist wanting to knock some sense into Shannon.

Out of all of them thus far, this one perhaps was the most exciting. Simply because the series started off getting to know Nikolai and Shannon. This story was more about them but in the same terms, everything blends together so nicely from this book, the second and of course the first. I have to say that I was quite impressed. It takes a heck of a lot of talent to sew the seems in the book so professionally and perfect. It was the most interesting book too because we learn about shifter matings with vampires and some information on vampire-shifter wars. I really enjoyed it!

I like the continuation of the world and the improvement of the character development. An interesting pairing of mates and I liked the subplot of the other newly mated pair. My only complaint with the amount of cliffhangers left behind for both pairings. I hope that there ends up being more than 5 books in the series (the 5th book backtracks to the past), that the other pairing gets their due in writing and the cliffhangers get addressed.

It has been a little while since I read this book but here is what I recall...

I love the series!! Yummy romance involving shifters. Plenty of steamy action and a touch of humor!

Definitely a series to get into! I started it and didn't stop until I reached the last book that was released! I am always looking for the next book!

If you like steamy shifter romances this is a series to look into!!!!

I love Shayla and Rory's story better in here. Poor Rory. And I don't know what was really wrong with Shay?
Now with Nikolai and Shannon, it was also a good one. Especially when Nikolai was gazing at Shannon from the bed. The first meeting is always the most awesome. Remember Kee and Alex's tied in the forest? How about Rory and Shayla offering her butt to to him while she practically ninja moved him away. And Nikolai's and Shannon was equally good to.

Very enjoyable read! Well-written with good character depth.

The super-powers that the vampire had were a bit strange though--he could make his clothes appear and disappear, among other things. Also the book was loaded with testosterone! All sorts of alpha-males sneaking and conniving to trick their mates. It got annoying.

  • raeneysa

like i said before the comment i wrote about tameka smile about bull and nee cee silly and nee cee is playing hard to get. in this novel shayla is curious and end up getting what she want plus more. i already know once i read both novel it going to be hard to pick which one i like the best right now i i like both

    LOVE THIS SERIES

I couldn’t wait to read their story!

The seeds were planted for their romance in book 1. Nikolai saves Shannon by taking her to get medical care when she is severely injured and then she becomes his obsession. The vampire and the werewolf are classic enemies. What happens when they fall in love? This book answers that question and more! I was not disappointed! I totally enjoyed how the other mates were integrated into this story as well.

    Good.

This book was good. I enjoyed the vampire and the shifter ... But I still say so far the first one is still my favorite

  • Shannon C.

3.5 stars: Better world building than the previous book

Shannon, a werewolf, is being pressured by Rory, her older brother and alpha of the pack, to take a mate and continue the family line. At her continued denials of his setups, he calls a 'hunt'--a barbaric, outdated practice of unmated females getting a short head start and then unmated males running to catch them. In Shannon's case, it was against her will so she fights the men who pursued her. Otherwise, she would have been forced into a lifetime mating she didn't want. After the fight, she is injured and lying bleeding in the forrest.

The vampire Nikolai is passing through the area and drawn by a distinctive scent. He finds her and trys to help her. Injured in her wolf form, she instinctively attacks him, swallowing some of his blood. He uses compulsion to put her to sleep and then takes her to Alex Wolfe, alpha of another nearby wolf pack and doctor. As she heals, he continues to be drawn to her. But she's a werewolf and he's a vampire--can she actually be his Chosen?

I read and enjoyed 'True Mates 2: Mary and the Bear' before reading this book. And while I liked 'True Mates 2', I felt the world building could have been better developed, ie, what it was like to be a shapeshifter, how packs are organized, etc. 'True Mates 3' does a better job with this and goes into greater explanation about pack structures and the shapeshifters themselves. We also get to see some of the characters we know and like from the earlier books--Hugh, Mary Elizabeth, Alex, and Kiesha. I liked the romance between Nikolai and Shannon as well as the fast paced storyline, which had some good twists and turns. There's a nice secondary storyline that sets up a romance between quirky, genius Shayla (Kiesha's cousin) and Rory, alpha of the nearby pack. I'm guessing another book in the series will be about them.

There were a few areas for improvement. I didn't buy how quickly Shannon forgave Rory for the hunt. He never apoligized or admitted that what he did was wrong. While he claimed he had her best interests at heart, he acted against her will and a strong female like Shannon shouldn't have forgiven him so quickly. Also, some of the vampire's powers seemed a little over the top, and information about his character could have been better developed--not only about him personally but also more about vampires generally. And how could Kiesha shift forms without losing the baby?

But those issues aside, overall this was an enjoyable, entertaining paranormal romance. Good mix of action, romance, and suspense.

Okay I'm giving this 4 stars because the plot is really good in this one. Wynn really stepped it up. I really liked the action the thing is though I really liked Shannon she was still a disappoinment to me. After all her brother did to her I don't understand why there was never a confrontation. I'm sorry but I let two men beat your ass and I almost killed and ran you off cause I can see that your lonely is not a good enough excuse. I didn't like Shayla at all but I loved the chemistry between her and Shannon's brother. I don't like that Alex is never confronted about his manipulative. I loved seeing the other characters and catching up with them.

Here's the thing about the book I didn't like. Nikolai having sexual contact with Shannon while she was sleep numerous times didn't sit well with me. If a woman isn't aware to give her consent we all know what it is. I felt like Wynn just wrote in Shannon's wolf being aware of Nikolai and not letting him go but so far to keep the reader from seeing it for what it was. I don't even understand why a woman as supposedly strong as she was didn't even confront him or figure out what he was doing to her. But I guess in the paranormal world these rules don't apply so I can't be offended when a character I like shows a lack of honor.

Other then that this is a really good one. In my opinion the best so far.

So I was slightly hesitant with this one, as their story has been building since the very first book, we've been watching it play out. And that can either work really well, or end up being crap. This one worked. I don't feel like we got too much of the same stuff just rehashed differently.

It was nice to see some of the events from different points of view.

Still not too happy about the slight Rapey-ness when it came to Nikolai.

Huh. Rory wasn't actually the complete and total bastard we thought he was. I actually liked that. And I liked how since we had seen a lot of Nikolai and Shannon's story already, we got the start of a different paring as well to flesh it out. That was nice.

I do look forward to the next one.

  • Judith

Liked the premise of the book -- strong Alpha-fem of a werewolf pack, but a brother/Alpha who couldn't seem to focus on anything other than getting her mated. There are some cute parts -- some of the relationships between the female characters were quite uplifting and the dialogue was very cute. Just got a little tired of her pushy brother and the manipulation of her mate-to-be. Didn't seem to really give Shannon much choice when it all comes right down to it. Yet is was a fun read and one I enjoyed overall.

The author has gotten better in this third book of the True Mates Series. Even though love between Vampire and Shifter is not what Shannon the Fem-Alpha of her pack wants she is courted and wooed by Nicolai, an old vampire who knows she is his True Mate. Shannon has to contend with the suspicions and hatreds of her pack as well as her brother who is the Pack Alpha. Nicolai is smart enough to know that he can not rush her into a relationship and proceeds slowly to win her heart.
