This book is a global bestseller. With the move away from traditional funeral services, comes an increased responsibility for funeral celebrants to honor the departed in an appropriate way, and make sure each service runs as smoothly as possible. This handbook is the ideal companion for qualified celebrants or church leaders, celebrants-in-training, or those who are thinking about entering this vocation. It covers every aspect of a service, beginning at the time of initial contact and the first meeting with the bereaved, right through to the service itself. In this book, you will also find a varied collection of readings, poems, and sample eulogies for each type of funeral service, as well as advice about conducting memorial services and funeral services with a difference.

An interesting and practical read. Mostly helpful, though some parts I couldn’t imagine using or saying. I guess it’s ‘vive la difference’ with this sort of thing.

The Funeral Celebrant's Handbook is a useful resource for funeral celebrants (or, my case, would-be funeral celebrants). The opening chapter has some background information that may not be so directly useful to celebrants. Chapter 2 discusses interviewing the family and the details that need to be discussed and considered in creating the service. Most of the rest of the book is sample services, verses and poems. The final chapter includes some helpful creative phrases and transitions to add interest to the service.

This was a really useful starting point for me as I begin my funeral celebrant training in September. A good piece of context setting and a practical guide. Generous sharing of readings and text too. This is from the more experienced Australian camp and this shows. Some of the words are quite religious still and based on the belief of meeting again so may not be so useful for humanists. This is such an important job to get right that any reading around it has to be helpful especially to get you thinking about it.
