I was surprised at how comprehensive this was - not so much regarding his life but regarding the context in which he was painting. There were far more examples of paintings from his friends and collaborators than I was expecting which helped to paint a picture (pun intended) of modern art of the period. I always liked Kandinsky but this gave me a new appreciation for more of his work.
