A quick, pleasant read with writing that left something to be desired, with "this can't be for real" passages like "meld all those ingredients together into a spicy Cajun stew...until the disparate elements join together into a savory treat, and you'd have one Kent Desormeaux." It scratched my itch for dishy insight into horse racing culture, and though 20 years old, profiles of jockeys still racing keep the book semi-relevant.

A fantastic look at the lives of the many jockeys who I've watched since my childhood. Great writing by the awesome Lenny Shulman the author of Justify. Must read for any us racing fan.

A nice, intimate snapshot of the biggest names on the American jockey circuit at the turn of the century.
