Dead Boy Detectives (2022) #1 Reviews

Oh how I’ve missed comic books

I was initially bummed when the very good Nightmare Country series abruptly took a left turn into a lead-in to this Dead Boy Detectives book. After issue #1 of the DBD series, I’m just as excited to see where Pichote &co are taking this one, and how this will intersect with Nightmare Country when it picks back up.
One of the great things about the original Sandman series was that it was a treasury of stories from the around the world, as Gaiman brought in myth, folklore, urban legend, etc from everywhere. With this DBD series, Pichetshote introduces some really rich Thai ghost folklore that I can’t wait to see developed further. Plus, Pichetshote has totally nailed the voices of Edwin and Charles and the tone of this book overall - whimsy battling against the dread. -
WOAH, That's a good start for the year 2023

I am one of the few who did not enjoy these characters as the next sandman fan.
But I liked this story. It picked up one some relatable issues, expanded the universe and had a nice conclusion -

not sure how to feel about the story yet since it’s early days, but the thai characters and exploration of thai mythology makes me so warm and fuzzy :-) representation matters !!
