Funny you should ask… I’ll tell you.
It’s being forcefully engaged to the boss’s delusional son.
Listen. In my experience, birds are insane… Those uncaged idiots manage to be both the predator and the prey at the same time. This one bird in particular doesn’t seem to comprehend that he’s not a snake.
But it’s okay. I’m armed and venomous.
While hunting for my lost mate, the aforementioned idiot keeps sending his minions to nab me… Until I finally stop hissing around and strike back.
New town. New house. New bodies to hide. You know the deal, right? I can’t bury them all beneath my bushes like an improper lady.
That’s where my problems begin.
They certainly don’t end when the roguish neighbors catch my scent from the other side of the privacy fence.
And they definitely get worse when Worms-for-Brains invites himself into my house while my territorial mates are here.
Now, I dream of holding the safety pin of a grenade between my fangs while it rains white feathers… while also being seduced into my happily-ever-after by several alluring snake charmers.
It’s totally achievable.
Note: This is a dark and funny paranormal HFN standalone in the shared world, Society of Shifters. Content includes three-to-five fated mates, poorly timed humor, a charmed cobra, a pet snake named Carol, and a Pimp and a Hooker who run amuck… but it’s not what you’re thinking. Maybe.
You can enjoy this book independently.
Venomous as a Snake (Society of Shifters) Reviews

It was interesting. I liked the variety of shifters, although not much shifting going on. Romance wise there wasn't much of it. There's no build up, the mate bonds are already established. It was kinda like walking into class with only ten minutes left. It was Walker heavy, given Kody was trying to find her lost mate. Ali and Drew felt like support. The romantic element feels like Collin and Forrest, although their relationship with Kody remains up in the air.
Action wise, it was chaotic, murdery and more of a build up to off an abusive ex. The swan was trash, so was happy with his end. The only thing that did bother me was the word cheating thrown around. I know he stole her from her mate but...yeah. Not a fan of cheating.
I did like how they believed in her, and the lightheartedness of their hostage situation. The guys were all tied up joking around and winding up the ex, whilst the girl kicks ass and comes to the rescue. That was entertaining.
FMC - Kody (Cobra)
Guys with bonds - Ali (Komodo dragon), Drew, Walker (Croc)
Guys without bonds - Collin (Kangaroo), Forrest (Rhino)
Bad guy - Abuse ex (Swan) -
DNF @ 36% p80/222 Chapter 9(Kody)
I really didn’t like the way the storyline was laid out.
It started in a weird place, it read like a mystery/thriller for no good reason having us piece things together as we went, the characters weren’t my favorite and I feel like because of the way the writing was, making a connection with them(especially the FMC) was really difficult.
🤷🏻♀️
I don’t think it’s bad.
I did like their animals. I thought they were a really cool mix and I’d never read anything with a king cobra, a Croc, a honey badger, and a Komodo dragon shifter before. So that was cool. And it’s honestly most of the reason I got even as far as I did into it.
It just wasn’t for me, and I lost interest in picking it back up after putting it down. -
I found the plot to be rather flat, and I was confused by the relationships in the book. Everything was already established with history, and we were inserted in the middle of the harem's HEA. Nothing much was explained about how the gangs worked and the logic of people's innate animal, and I found the humor not really to my taste. I didn't really get what was going on until about 30% into the book.

What is this way to begin a book? 🧐
I had to check two times that it was really a standalone because the beginning of this book is so weirdly written it makes you think that you missed already a lot of the story...not cool
Then, I didn't really find the book as funny the author seemed to said🤷🏻♀️
The relationship between the FMC and her guys is weird, they didn't seem to care of each other. Walker was a d*ck.
The plot was ok...
You won't die if you don't read it😅 -
What a difrent and imaginative story! As Always M. F. Adele is a great author and makes the most charming books! This One is funny, confusing (in a good way), sexy, and it gets you waiting for more! Very good. What could be Next?

Venomous as a Snake
Kody just wants to find her mates and get rid of the insane son of the Snake Eyes gang boss, who she's been forcefully engaged to. What ensues during that process is a comedy of errors that no one should miss.
It was very hard to describe this book without giving away a bunch of the plot. Overall the book is hysterical and I absolutely have fallen in love with Kody's character. She is vicious, yet hilarious and quick witted. Everything about this book from start to finish held my interest if for nothing else the comedic value it held. There were serious moments, as well as some more romantic scenes, but the overall vibe was comedic.
I did have a couple issues with how the plot was laid out. The first chapter was confusing and I wish I didn't have to wait until I was farther in the book to understand what was happening.

So fun!
This is the second book in the Society of Shifters series I’ve read, and it’s just as phenomenal! With an action packed plot line, emotional spice, and a strong FMC this story was a quick, easy read! The variety of shifters and their personalities added another layer of fun to this read! I want more of Kody and her mates story! -
Only M.F. Adele could start off writing a rom-com and end up with something completely different. Sure there was plenty of steam and moments of hilarity but it wasn't a traditional take on a rom-com but that doesn’t matter, I love Adele's twisted take on one. Venomous As A Snake was one wild and, at times, confusing ride and I loved every single second.
Let me start off by saying Kody Ayers is her own character but something about her reminds me of Adele's mfc from her other series, Sloane King from The Chronicles of Sloane King. Both women are strong, intelligent, and capable and both of them have their fair share of crazy. The type of crazy where most would either think they were joking or they start asking themselves WTF?
Kody is a king cobra snake shifter who is an enforcer for a deadly gang and she knows what she's doing grow up at the knee of her father who is just as deadly. I'm still judging on her hand-to-hand combat skills but my girl is deadly with a weapon, talk about boss... The funny thing about Kody is that she's laid back and nice until you back her in a corner, until she has no other options, and then she's deadly. This is in complete opposite of the girl who loves to dance, who could have gone professional, and just wanted the love of her mates. But Kody makes the best out of what she got, if she has lemons, squirt them in the eyes of your enemies.
Things with the mates are kinda sketchy. First, let me tell you about the brothers and yes, they are related by blood. Walker is a bit of a jerk, it's just his personality and he's not bad but he has been in hiding because of Kody's crazy ex-fiance when he comes back he still makes a mess of stuff. Then there's Drew, who is moody and oh-so-funny but mostly likes to see what makes people tick. Finally, there is Ali who seems calm and super protective. All of the guys fit Kody's personality in some way and I liked them all. Remember when Adele said three to five mates? That's because there are two possibles, Collin who is a vegetarian boxer, and Forrest, also vegetarian and a genius especially with IT. You gotta read to get the vegetarian thing, haha. They are sweet guys who are getting used to all the crazy in Kody's life and they get closer to her becoming very protective of her. I like the guys and hope they stick around.
The story is fabulous with a few unique twists that are new to me. The first twist, there is a shifter version of everything. Seagulls, otters, rats, swans, kangaroos, etc. How wild is that? And I can't tell if everyone is a shifter or if it's a mix of shifters and humans and that bugs me a little. Then there are the mate bonds. Of course, there are the fated bonds but there is also a chosen mate bond, like what? My mind is blown because it's just as powerful as a fated bond.
Now that the logistics are out of the way. The plot was crazy, an arranged engagement gone wrong, a stalker ex who is crazy as heck (Kody kept saying bird Shifters are crazy), and also the gang leader's son. Said gang leader surprises me a little with his opinions and I'm not sure what to feel about it or him. It's an all-out war between exes, this is a rom-com (Adele version) with a body count and it was glorious. Poisoned cookies, grenades, and trackers, set in backgrounds like clubs, box matches, and the streets of Florida. There were plenty of humorous moments but the end was pretty explosive and has me asking one important question.
Why end on an HFN? Just, why? Venomous As A Snake was amazeballs and while it was complete as a standalone with a finished plot I'm not ready to say goodbye to these characters. This book feels like it's just the beginning of their story. It feels like more crazy and ridiculous (not to mention, hilarious) situations are heading their way. Plus I wanna see where things are headed relationship-wise, especially with the two new additions. Good thing for me that Adele is keeping her options open and is willing to revisit these characters because I'm dying for more. -
Loved it!
I really enjoyed all the characters in this book. You know how sometimes a book with be marketed as a comedy but when you read it you think it's maybe humorous at best? Well this one actually made me laugh out loud more than once. The banter between the characters was hilarious as was the descriptions of the FMC's pets.
Why I rated 4 stars and not 5 stars:
While I really did like this book, I feel like if someone doesn't read the other books in the Society of Shifters universe they may be a little confused. Some of the explanation of why the people in this book shift into the animals they do is not explained and the beginning of the book feels like you maybe missed a little? Like starting a movie 15mins in. You didn't miss a lot, but the extra story establishment is important. I also felt like some of Kody and Walker's issues were left a little unresolved. There was more room for additional discussions between the two of them but it wasn't really focused on too much.
I really hope the author decides to give Kody her own series. I'd like to see how she handles and it would be great to see what her relationship with her father is like. -
This Society of Shifters series has been super entertaining thus far. If you read the first book in this series by Katie May, you'll notice a drastic shift from that one to this one. The level of humorous chaos drops to a more serious tone with Kody in Venomous as a Snake, but both books are equally good! I'll be onto the one by Jarica James next!
Kody as our leading lady was entertaining in a different way. She was laid back but not in a not caring way. Every action and decision she made was calculated. Like the king cobra that she is, enjoys the long game of hunting her prey, giving them a false sense of security. I loved seeing the way her mind worked and the wait between each surprising decision was worth it. I was constantly wondering what she was going to do next.
The ending of this book went out with a bang. Am I surprised that MF Adele made Kody's story end with a HFN instead of a HEA? Absolutely not. I would love to see Kody and her mates again and see if new relationships form between a couple of characters we were introduced to. I think there is so much more in store for this group and will keep my eyes peeled for another book involving them. -

Kody is our b@d@ss FMC who’s on a mission to get away from her arranged marriage to her gang leader’s son and find her missing mate Walker with the help of her 2 other mates, Walker’s brother Drew and the newest addition, Ali. Kody was trained by her father who’s the enforcer of the Snake Eyes gang, the most notorious organization in the world so when I say our FMC is a b@d@ss, I really mean it! She’s left the gang to find Walker and has taken the steps to take back control of her life. There’s a little bit of darkness, the perfect amount of spice, banter that made me laugh out loud and swoon worthy book boyfriends. The ending has been left open ended with a HFN and a nice opening for the introduction of a new mate or two. I really enjoyed this and can’t wait to read more about these characters in the future. M.F. Adele has been one of my favorite authors ever since I found The Chronicles of Sloane King and I’ll read anything she publishes. She knocked it out of the park with this standalone. 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
Steam: 🌶️🌶️
Angst: 🔥🔥
Violence: 🩸🩸🩸 -
I'm not sure what I was expecting when I read rom-com and Ms. Adele in the same sentence? I knew at some point it would get a little bit bloody. Well we got plenty of that in this book with Kody (FMC) especially when she has an Ex that won't take no for an answer. Which is kinda idiotic considering she's a King Cobra shifter. Kody is a laugh a minute though with her quick wit, sarcasm and how bloodthirsty she is. I loved the dynamic she had with Ali & Drew but Walker needed a good slap with his attitude even if I did understand why he was as he was. With the inclusion of Collin and Forrest things got interesting but I felt like we didn't get enough book time with them. Saying that I enjoyed reading this book but honestly I'd love to read more from these guys because this was a cracking read

Loved it 🤩
Fun, funny and with just enough violence to hook you, Venomous as a Snake was exactly what I needed.
We follow Kody while she’s looking for one her missing mate and trying to avoid her fiancé… Full of laughter and unexpected situations, I really enjoyed this story.
Kody was fun and likable - she was fighting so hard for her loved ones. And the guys were so supportive and loving. I liked that they trusted each other so much. They were just here for Kody in whichever way she needed. They were pretty swoon-y and worthy of a book boyfriend status.
I enjoyed the story, the plot, the characters…everything really and I read the book in one setting. The only disappointment I feel is that it wasn’t longer. I really want more of those characters, pretty please 🥺 -
More!!
This book was everything I didn’t know I needed in a comedic love story; with some killers and one crazy ex. I think the only part missing was more spicy scenes for the characters to grow as mates should. Which is why I fully support and agree that this should become a trilogy. Kody needs more time and all the fun that could be had as well as her two mates she choose but didn’t get to fully bond with; have the chance on screen because who would leave them money or not; they deserve the mate she is and the love she can give. It is 5 guys not 3 for sure!
Please more books!! -
This was a great read! We are introduced to Kody and her mates, one of who she has been trying to find for a year, and how she is dealing with a guy who won't take no for an answer. I absolutely adore her pets and the names are just great! Pimp is definitely my favourite out of them all. It was a couple of hours to read it but I enjoyed the chaos that is Kody.
We got to see plenty of personality from Drew, Walker, Ali, Collin and Forrest throughout the book and I do hope MF Adele does more with these characters! Collin and Forrest seem like sweethearts so I want them to get a happy ending. I do love Ali out of all the guys.
I do hope this becomes a series and would love to see the six of them more! Plus interested about Fangs and Kody's dad maybe in the future. -
Enjoyable....
This was an enjoyable story and deserves more. I would love to see this stretched out to a full series or this as a prequel with a more fleshed out series after. I want to know more about how mates work and the different types of connections, more about how shifters work and how they move in this world. And I would love to read more about Kody, her family and how she moves forward. This is a complete book but it's a happy for now ending which leaves so much room for so much more -
Brilliant read. I could not put this down.
Nothing in this book was as i could have expected. i was surprised around every corner. l laughed so much reading this.
Kody is on a mission never to let her ex bother her again. she has a few steps to make and a few things to do before she creates her own finale. sometimes you just have to make things happen and that is exactly what kody does. no one else seems to know what she is doing, but she can certainly get the job done,
Brilliant read. -
Spectacular!
If you like a fast action packed read, this book is for you. I absolutely loved this book! Kody is maybe a little unhinged but totally reasonable considering she has a ex with more than a few worms for brains. Maybe one or two of her men might be a little deranged but totally matches her crazy. This is totally worth the read. It’s definitely got the right amount of spice and plenty of humor. -
I loved this so freaking much!!
MF always writes the strongest and funniest FMCs!
Kody Ayers is a king Cobra shifter and is an enforcer in the Snake Eyes gang. She is stuck in an arranged marriage to a horrible guy and just wants to find her mates. She is funny and laid back but will kick some butt when needed. And the mates, Ali, Drew, Walker, Forrest and Colin, don't even get me started!!
I really enjoyed this book and I hope we see more of them in the future! -
“Dark, funny and chaotic lol. Welcome to a new standalone story set in the shared world of Society of Shifter, you’ll fall in love. Kody was an amazing characters and easy to adore. A little bit crazy and out of control but hey she has being for into an arrange marriage with a pyscho (not the good and hot kind of) and kept away from her mates. Who wouldn’t be mad? But like royalty, she rose to take her life back. So enjoy the ride!”
-
Another five-star read in this amazing multiple author universe.
I really love that all the shifters are different species.
I loved Kody so much she is bad@$$.
All her guys give her the love and support she needs. They may have all made me swoon throughout the book.
I read this book in one go , and i couldn't put it down.
I would definitely recommend this book and universe. -
I want more!
I really enjoyed all the main characters in this but i desperately need more from them!! I also loved the pets!!! They all had so much personality and completely stole every scene they were in, I love the concept of shifters still having pets and those pets having vital roles! -
More please
I'd love to read more about Kody and her men. I laughed throughout this book and I can't imagine what other shenanigans this crew could get upto. I need to know more about Forrest and Collin the feels of being chosen after a rejection. I love that Drew let us know the story that no one else knows. Haha down fantastic! -
I blew through Venomous as a Snake in one sitting. I was completely hooked on Kody as a whole. She's a FMC that knows exactly what she wants and is determined to get it. The background story is well fleshed out and makes me feel for Kody and her mates. There's some good angst and steam, enough action to keep me interested, and the HEA these characters deserve!
-
please more
Okay, first, A fudging + on the animals for the shifters. Second, A++ for rocking a snake shifter FMC. And third….please give more. I would LOVE to read more about Kody, Carol, and her Hooker and Pimp. Truly. Love. That’s all.
… but seriously.
…more.
…
….please.
