Fruit and Cheese Reviews

Simple and rather sweet story an employee and a guy who keeps coming back to the upscale grocery store where he works. Unfortunately, it felt unfinished for me. I still wonder what Luke's job was, why he came with a limo, what were those parties, and were he looking at Eli's ass that first time?

Christmas is rapidly approaching and Eli is kept very busy working at upper-class grocery store Redmon's. He is putting together a holiday display at the front of the store when a man in a suit and wool overcoat comes in looking for some help. He needs fruit and cheese for a party but has no idea what to get so he hands Eli some money and waits for the supplies in his car. The car that turns out to be a limo. Well then. A week later the man, Luke Harrison, shows up again, this time looking for desserts. Then it's cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. When Luke needs help with a dinner for two, Eli just doesn't think it's right for him to help with that kind of party. On Christmas Eve, Eli's frequent visitor stops by the store yet again, but this time he has something other than food in mind.
This story is the definition of cute. Eli is extremely sweet and willing to help out but at the same time is adorably clueless. This is a very short story and was a joy to read. Each of Luke's visits to Redmon's gets a bit more interesting and I found myself smiling uncontrollably. There is a little bit of magic at work here, Christmas magic, that brings two people together in the most unexpected of places. I greatly enjoyed the writing style that is not intrusive in any way, the story is gently laid out for the reader who is left to enjoy everything with the characters. I will most definitely be looking for more books from this author, another added to my list of new favorites thanks to this advent calendar. I definitely recommend this story for anyone that has spent time staring at the shelves at the grocery store, unsure what to pick, wishing there was a cute guy there to help out.

A very nice little Christmas tale, 29 pages.
Eli works as salesman in a chic deli. One night, few days before Christmas a man enters the shop asking for Fruit and Cheese for a party of ten. He is brisky and detached, but Eli in a way, sees also a bit of shyness in him. Luke, the man, is obviously wealthy, limousine and classy dress, but he seems also alone; he is not handsome in a classic way, but Eli is drawn by him, by his aurea and maybe by is unexpressed help request.
In the days after, Luke comes back time again time, always asking Luke to collect chic food treat for small parties, and probably the reader is expectiing from Luke to invite also Eli, but the request never arrives and Eli always looks with perplexity the limousine go with Luke inside. But Christmas is near...
I really like this short story, a mix of Cinderfella and Christmas Carol, with Luke in the guise of a modern Scrooge. Above all I like that what draws Eli to Luke is not a physical thing, Luke is not an handsome prince charming, but probably is something deeply, a need to comfort and cuddle a man who seems to have all and instead probably has nothing.

A cute story about a guy who works in an upscale grocery store and a customer who keeps returning for his help with party platters. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas Luke's good looks and appealing personality impress Eli (the clerk) and romantic thoughts are stifled as impossible. From there it's the readers guess for HEA.
