We’re on the highly anticipated season 11 of
LeVar Burton Reads and logging on with Kim Fu’s “#ClimbingNation”.

    Great ending!

As someone in a remote town, remote learning, remote working, remote everything, I dependently lean into my parasocial relationships. At this point, I have to. I recognize that it’s not the healthiest connection, but it’s healthier than not connecting at all.

I think the introverted and remote mothers and sisters of yore did it too, in their own way. Not one generation behind me, you’ll see people’s first parasocial best friend was Jo March, Elizabeth Bennet, Jean Valjean, Jane Eyre, Nick Carraway.

As readers, we’re predisposed to answering loneliness with characters that feel real.

The new BFF emblems on instagram and Tiktok occasionally talk back in the form of a comment. The luckiest among us might get a returned follow. These features are much more seductive than characters bound to books. More dangerous in our willingness to feel at home in a house we’ve never stepped foot in.

Despite the postmodern social media themes, this has an old-timey mystery quality to it. I liked this so much, I’d love to see more from this author.

A very interesting take on social media and how people can feel that they "know" the people they follow. They can see their pictures, read their thoughts in posts, and through all of that and more believe they "know" their story. This short story is of one person who took their knowledge a bit too far and went to the funeral of one social media personality and found out reality is different from what has been presented online. Great story and no spoilers, but an incredible twist at the end. Great story and, of course, LeVar's reading of it just brings it to the next level.

An interesting choice of protagonist. I like the compactness of this story. Just a few hours pass, but so much is contained in those hours. The only thing I don't understand is

  • Jessie

I did NOT see that ending coming. It was an interesting story but the twist at the end make #ClimbingNation brilliant.

  • Courtney

Clever build and well written, plus excellently narrated.

  • Sophie-Leigh Thompson-Green

Good mystery tied in with modern day parasocial relationships

    Stock much? Love the sister!
