Fifteen writers share their take on the phenomenon of Cowboys — a calling, a vocation, and a status that has nothing to do with gender. Whether in the old west or the Australian outback, New England or the Great Plains, these girls and their horses work hard, play hard, and love hard. Contributors Radclyffe and Jove Bell depict the rough and tumble world of female rodeo riders, while Cheyenne Blue explores cattle ranching and the new environmentalism, and Delilah Devlin writes about a “Hired Hand” who may be a woman, but is more than a match for any man. Sexy, steamy, and crackling with the energy of a wild filly, these stories represent the cutting edge of lesbian cowboy fiction.

Lesbian Cowboys: Erotic Adventures Reviews

This is a reasonable collection of erotic short stories all with either a western or horse theme. Quite a few of them are set in days gone by where women doing "men's work" needed to be dressed like men in order to do it. They're all well-written but I preferred the content of some more than others.

The story I enjoyed most was Bareback by DeJay which centers around two older women in an established relationship spending a night in the barn waiting for their mare to give birth.

Lesbian Cowboys: Erotic Adventures is a collection of fifteen short stories that, as promised, feature lesbian cowboys. On average, the stories run approximately fourteen pages or so, which results in the feeling that there is not much in the way of plot or character development. Actually, a more fitting title would have been Lesbian Cowboys Having Sex, as the majority of the stories are pretty to the point and do not waste much time getting to the good stuff (and by good stuff, I mean lots of sex).

As for the eroticism, some stories are soft and sweet. My favorite of these was Craig J. Sorenson’s “Two Fronts,” a quaint coming-of-age story about a young woman living on a ranch during World War II. Others are written with crude details, such as Roxy Katt’s “Fancy Pants.” Personally, I have never found the words “fur” or “titties” to be especially erotic, but to each her own. Most of the stories are just fun little sexual romps. In their quest to set the right “cowboy” tone, some of the authors get a bit cheesy with their use of slang, such as “I reckon,” “Yes’m,” and “obliged,” but, if you are reading anything that falls into the romance, erotica or love story category, a little bit of cheese is probably what you are seeking.

Despite them all sharing a central theme of the cowboy lover, the stories are definitely individual works and each has its own take on the lesbian cowboy. There is something for everyone here, with stories set in every time period from the Old West to the current day in the 21st century. The heroines are all variations on the cowboy stereotype: ranch hands, rodeo cowgirls, detectives, and drifters, meaning that there is something for everyone in this collection. Because this is a themed collection, the stories sometime can get a bit monotonous when read one right after the other, so I do not recommend trying to read them all in one sitting, unless you really love lesbian cowboys. In the end, the book delivers exactly what its cover tagline promises, sexy little stories filled with “lust, dust and leather.”

Another drink from the well of older lesbian fiction, this anthology of short stories takes us to the Great Plains of today and historically where Cowboys were the stuff of legends. The majority of stories had women posing a men to get by in the Old West and as mostly loners traveling the circuit as individuals today. Some of these stories are really good. They pack a punch with characters with whom you can connect and feel the loneliness that is lifted as they find life and love on their own terms. Plenty of erotica abounds, almost like the tumbleweed that blows past the ranches in the stories. Found some authors I want to follow up with, which is why short stories are fun.

I tried to listen to this via the Audible Escape (formerly Romance) package. The word "erotic" should have been a clue. I'm ok with sex in a novel but I need sufficient text foreplay and I think erotic stories are for people who want to get to the point (so to speak).

Here’s the thing, I hate cowboys, never liked any movies, music, or books, wanted nothing to do with them, but apparently lesbian cowboys are a real thing, and these cowboy women loving women, really hit the spot. Quick fun read that’ll leave you wishing some of the stories were full blown books so you could get more.

Gosh, this book actually took me a fair old while to finish. Mainly because I was dipping in a out, reading a story and then going off and reading something else. Part of the reason for this was a type of delayed gratification, that if the next book wasn't very good, I could dip back into this one and get precisely what the cover promises - hot, sweaty, sexy and wanton cowgirls.

As with any book containing 15 stories from different authors, loosely bound to the concept of cowgirls in love (but mainly in lust), the tone and style differ dramatically. However, whether in the outback of Australia or the old Wild West, the quality of the writing was consistently exceptional.

Highly enjoyable erotic read that I would recommend to everyone. However, not to be read all in one sitting as:

    a) you would need a very cold shower before interacting with anyone except your partner

    b) you are liable to embarrass yourself by buying cowboy boots and a hat, then walking around the house with only those on and a laconic smile!i

I like the anthologies of short stories as I am sure to find stories that I like and female cowboys are a particular favorite. All of the stories are erotic and sexy though a couple weren't my kind of story. The rest of the book made up for it! Every reader will have different stories that speak to them and stand out for. The others. The best thing about a collection like this is after reading all the stories I know exact which ones I'll go back and retread over and over again.

I took chance even though I read a few blah reviews...and this is what I get for being skeptical of other people's reviews. It's not that the stories were bad...they just didn't blow me away. They didn't get me hot and bothered. In fact, they kind of bored me. The most interesting story was the one about the cowboy's night at a brothel to prove her manhood. A great ending all around.

Ok, so no more smut for a while...

...Oh, who am I kidding? There's nothing like smutty romance for a pick-me-up when you're depressed.

Disclosure: I edited this book, so of course I think all my writers did wonderful work.
