Mona Lisa and the Others Reviews
-
'Mona Lisa and the Others' is an innovative non-fiction book about the Louvre art gallery in Paris and is suitable for confident readers.
The book takes a fun and light-hearted approach, and is narrated by the people in the pictures themselves! It gives some great background on each painting and lots of interesting facts about each one, and the painters too.
It contains photos of some of the key paintings and artefacts in the Louvre and also some fantastic illustrations by Quentin Blake.
An excellent book for older children interested in art, or a must-have if you are planning a trip to Le Louvre in Paris! It would make a great accompaniment to a school or home art project.

Mona Lisa and the Others is a fun and accessible look at art. Alice Harman’s light-hearted text has a slightly tongue-in-cheek tone to it that’s a pleasure to read. It’s informative and a bit snarky and moves quickly.
Illustrations by Sir Quentin Blake build upon the original art, adding energy and brightness throughout.
Excellent backmatter includes sections on the Louvre; ways to think about art; a timeline; glossary; list of artworks; and an index.
Mona Lisa and the Others is delightful look at the Louvre and the art contained within. It’s a fantastic introduction that will appeal to readers young and old.
