Six centuries have passed since the last pestilence almost consumed the race of Men. The Royal Order of Coroners has stood as a bastion of peace against the horrors that plague the Kingdom of Solarno. Now, on the eve of Harvest season, a rolling wall of dark, ominous clouds reaches the Border-realm. Bringing a turbid fog that blocks out the sun and sours the land. A blood moon rises in a pitch-black, fog-laden night. Along with it a horde of unsightly beasts. Riding out to meet the storm is a single coroner, Resurrectionist Paolo Reveré. The Coroner is the last sentinel standing between the innocent people of the realm and a bestial pestilence of murder and melancholy. Justice must be served, and order must be restored. Be it by flame or by cold forged steel.

The Coroner (The Plague Hunter Requiem Book 1) Reviews

Gripping and thought provoking. Dark fantasy like you have never read. This author has created everything, even his own languages. It was the most in depth lore and culture driven book I have read in a long time. I would highly recommend this to die hard fantasy fans.

    Oh, Wow!

If you don’t like stories with dark elements, this isn’t for you. But if you do like that, pick up this book now! Great plot, awesome world building, and in-depth characterization.

This book was a perfect blend of horror and fantasy! I have always seen myself as more of a horror fan than a fantasy lover but I found the Coroner to be a perfect blend of both literary genres. I know the book is a dark fantasy and don't worry it definitely is a fantasy novel but I felt like the author did an amazing job at blending the horror themes within his fantasy world building and story telling. I would recommend it to anyone who likes both horror and fantasy, especially if you are into your monsters! The author does a great job creating new and terrifying ghouls and beasties. The description was breathtaking as well! Can't wait for more from this author.

This is by far one of the best books I have read in 2022. It is a shame that it came out so late in the year only to be buried underneath the end of the year book dump. If you are a lover of all things dark and gritty, be it fantasy or horror, then this IS the book for you. It is plague doctors meets van helsing meets underworld meets the Black Plague meets Lovecraft meets Sherlock Holmes meets lord of the rings. And I could just keep going. Nate Fitch has put some serious work into this first book of the Plague Hunter series. I mean I saw the guy has a PhD but to create new fantasy languages is going above and beyond in my book. The detail in the story is layered in so much attention to detail, with parts of our own world history mixed with the ravings of a mad mind from the author. A true mad scientist! (pun-intentional). If you are looking for a great dark read, pick this up now!

A hidden gem that I am grateful for discovering this fall. This is one of those books that is going to become big, it just has all the elements of an outstanding fantasy book. The illustrations by William Heavey are amazing, add to the story, and help flush out the dark and hideous creatures that Author Nate Fitch has created all on his own. I hope the second book comes out soon, as this was so good I was left wanting more of the world, races, cultures, plot, orders, and everything in between. It is set up for readers who crave a deep plunge into their fantasy, and so I can only imagine it is going to get better from here. Read this book!

This was a total cover read for me and I'm glad that it was. I loved the concept of this book and loved that the main character and his order wear the plaque masks. I found the action scenes to be well written and the plot great. The story went to some very dark places and glanced over some very horrifying aspects of a humans ability to hurt others.
I did however find this shard to get through in some ways as I felt that too much time was spent describing everything all the characters felt and all the ways the magic and science worked in the world, which would pull me out of the story a lot.
I am still very interested to read more in this series and wait eagerly for the next one.

Extraordinary attention to detail! Fast paced gritty action scenes! Eerie creatures and monsters, and a captivating Coroner. This take on dark fantasy will keep you hooked the entire story! Definitely recommend. Great job Nate Fitch!

I think it’s pretty good, whatever that is worth
