One of America's most distinguished scholars of race shows us how public education needs to be seen in the light of the influence of "color-blind racism as a system of power." Drawing examples from schools, media, and the workplace, Collins gives us a book of social analysis that is also an energizing handbook for change.

3.5- Collins’ domains of power (Structural, Disciplinary, Cultural, and Interpersonal) provide a useful framework for the analysis of racism. Her reframing of “facts” as dependent on those in power rather than immutable truths lands well in the post-truth era. I also appreciate her emphasis on visionary pragmatism and everyday resistance to oppressive structures. That being said, this read as more of an intro-to-racism text than I had hoped (give this to your relative who still thinks racism comes only from those saying explicitly racist things), and I wish it was a bit deeper/meatier.

Un livre à mettre entre toutes les mains ! Je suis une grande fan du travail de Patricia Hill Collins, et ce volume va certainement me guider dans la manière dont j'aborde l'enseignement.

I think this is an excellent book. Very accessible even for those without a formal or higher education type familiarity with social justice. I would highly recommend this book as an excellent introduction to modern discussion about race.
