For lovers of history and students of the Pacific War it doesn't get any better than this slim and rare memoir of a US Marine Intelligence officer who served with the 1st Marines on Guadalcanal. An extremely humane and sympathetic treatment of the campaign with some surprising insights on why we won. Highly recommended. Note: After the war the author wrote for Fortune magazine and is well known for his book 'The Organization Man'.
