Cross-Dressing Villainess Cecilia Sylvie Manga, Vol. 3 Reviews
-
Dante knows our hero/heroine’s secret and is now happily hanging out with Cecil, but that means Gil and Oscar are the ones having the infernos. A bold kidnapping nearly goes up in smoke, but in the end, Cecil just needs somebody to Lean on.
I think my patience for isekai villainess stories begins and ends with I’m in Love With the Villainess, and even that’s because of the yuri content (and the lead is not the titular character). But I keep a little extra room in my cold, cynical heart for this series as well.
This isn’t particularly hilarious, mind, and boils down to being the same thing as every other example of its ilk. At first, this was one of the more amusing sub-genres, yet also one that (as tends to happen) quickly established a pattern it rarely breaks from. Then the endless parade of wannabes began.
And, so it goes. Cecil continues to amass a cadre of males who are having feelings for her, though only Oscar is wrestling with gender issues still, and they range from the freewheeling Dante to the very not-so-fraternal Gil.
They all jockey to win her affection without being explicit about their feelings, wackiness and general reactions make up the rest of the material. Cecil is happy with how things are, life is grand, maybe something will happen, maybe it won’t.
I still don’t think the art is especially amazing, but it’s also doing the lord’s work in terms of making this a really affable read. The non-stop parade of wild expressions and chibi moments adds a little pep that gives it all a bit more life than it would otherwise.
I’d be nearly interested in reading the light novels, except the art adds so much by what it’s doing that I can’t imagine it being more interesting as straight prose. There’s still the whole Killer angle to consider too, but when there’s a guy named Mordred on campus I’m not expecting a shocking reveal here.
Honestly, if you read My Next Life as a Villainess and wanted something with a slightly sharper heroine, you could do much worse than this. Especially with the very small tweaks to formula. Cecil has allies who know her situation and that reveal was the best part of the story since I had called it last time out.
Some mild derring-do, a smidgen of intrigue, a lot of goofing around and trying to climb higher in Cecil’s popularity poll. It’s not exactly breaking the mould, although I did appreciate that it poked at the sides a little bit. But if you are sick of the genre there is definitely not enough here to recommend it.
3.5 stars - mostly for the art. This is an excellently mediocre series and that’s the best way I can really describe it. Charming, sure, but engrossing? Eh, not so much. -
Oh YASS to that reveal! And some very exciting moments with a kidnapping, a route going the wrong way, friendship, lots of hilarious Gil getting pissy when anyone gets close to Cecil/Cecilia which just made me laugh so much, I felt for Cecil and hope that she sees that she does have companions who care about her and want to help her out, and now we are on to maybe find the next holy maiden??? I am so going to keep on reading, well, when I can, probably tomorrow. This is such a fun manga and I just love how it combines humour x isekai x exciting/slightly OMG moments.

This installation was mostly general plot progress, and a dash of relationship progress. Still highly entertaining and emotional, just not everything I want from it XD

I'm not sure why the otherwise intelligent heroine is so clueless is such a big trope, but this one pulls it off better.

Okay Lean is more likeable when she realizes that Cecil/Cecilia is her friend Hiyano and refuses to let her die again because of her. But I still take issue with how in the series (I've read the light novels translated in English thus far already), how she manipulates people around Cecilia to put her in situations for her inspo for her yaoi smut, especially since the yaoi and situations she creates is giving those around them a the wrong idea which causes problems for the people who are her inspo.

Kind of a chaotic end to the novel volume #1’s storyline, but I’m intrigued about where it’s going from here.

I'm gonna just say that as cute and adorable as this series is with Cecilia being a total goober most of the time, they really managed to make Killer as nightmare inducing as they could. And that's just the few moments they show him, kind of scared for when he really begins to act. I'm glad Cecilia and Lean both finally know they're best friends from their previous life, it really makes it all the sweeter. Just hate having to wait for the next book.

Always feels too short
Love the light novel series. This volume completes the Dante arc and stay if the Dr Mordred arc. The next arc is really where things stay to get done plot speed.
With how short these volumes are, I find it hard to wait for the next volume to come out. I also feel overcharged. -
uwa~~ i missed cecil sm and the art style🥰
