Devastation Reviews

I love this series. Layla finally stands up for herself. I've always love Quinn. Book six Layla was the person I wanted her to be kick a... and maybe it's because we don't play when it come to our children. But the I read epilogue what the heck. Where is my happily ever after that I been waiting for. They deserve it after all they've been through. I'm still giving this series a five. Books like the you re-live in your mind after you've read it once. I'll always remember these character. Layla and Quinn a beautiful love story.

I totally loved this series and author but I have to acknowledge my frustration how the story evolved. Don't get me wrong, their love story is the tale of the century a work of fiction however it encapsulates every emotion and allows you to take the journey with them. I swear it was almost like being there. However I thought I was getting my HEA, the the epilogue now there's more. That was very disappointing. Still one of my fav series and can't wait to read the next book.

  • Ebs

Now, let me just say...I adore this series...but OMG...enough is enough. How much more can Layla and Quin take?

Reading that epilogue this was my reaction

    description

Actually, I did that a lot during this book. The first 20%, I really just was not feeling it. There was just too much dialogue and it wasn't that interesting. But finally, I was like OMG

    description

because there was finally some ACTION. Actually, my favorite parts in this book is when there was action/fighting.

What I like about the book:
Layla is starting to go become more confident, at least when it comes to the safety of her loved ones. but if there is one word to describe Layla in this book, it would be:

    description

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that she wasn't as passive/weak as before. She was always so insecure and timid, and I'm glad she is gaining some confidence, but turning into a bitch was not what I was hoping for. I get that her children were missing, but her attitude was just too much. I can understand having an attitude towards the Crusaders(because they really only care about Layla and not her children) and the people at DOV but she was rude even towards her grandparents AND Quin( like he wasn't going through the same shit but worse). But whatever.

She was fierce in protecting her family and anybody who got in her way her reaction was:

    description

I also felt like Quin and Layla's relationship got stronger than before. Even through their grief of missing their babies, they found a way to grieve together and not attack each other. This was more of Layla's battle, but I felt like she was starting to open up more with Quin than in the past and it was good for their relationship.

    description

Quin. I felt so bad for him. At the beginning of the book, he was not in good shape. However, I'm glad he got better once he was reunited with Layla because she really needed it. She was really not herself while her babies were not with her.

And, I really liked the action in this book. Bonnie didn't gloss over the fighting and it made it interesting.

I give this book 3.5 stars. But, like I mentioned in my review of book 5, if you are invested in Quin and Layla, and their adventures in the magical world you will enjoy this book. If not, I would not recommend continuing with the series.

Words of wisdom for everyone who attempts to harm Layla's family

    description

Will I continue with the series? YES

I think this is the only 4-star review I have given any one of Mystic Series books to date. And I do so only because I believe in giving a fair and honest review. While I totally LOVE the series and the author, I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge my slight frustration with how the story is unfolding and evolving. Quin & Layla's love story is a tale of the ages and as a work of fiction, it encapsulates every emotion and allows you to take that journey with them. However, after 6 books now, how much more can these two take. And unfortunately how much can their story line be regurgitated. Given the epilogue in book 6, I hope that whatever comes next in the series, the reiteration of Quin & Layla's love story is not the main focus anymore. Any devout follower of the series has this already committed to memory. While it pains me to be so brutally honest, and I have no doubt I will receive some negative feedback for it, I can't over look this anymore. There is a lot that happens in books 5 & 6 that deserve to be highlighted and furthered in the next installment of the series, if there are any to come. Those that have made it this far know what I am talking about.

All in all, I still hold true to my love of the series and of B.C. and I will for every be a loyal Mysticeer. And I can't wait to see what is coming next.

  • Elizabeth

Oh my gosh, that ending was perfect...but then...the epilogue came along and seriously! will Layla and Quin and ever get a break and a happily ever after?!?!?!?

I'm not complaining one bit because this series is absolutely wonderful and I'm so glad it's not over, but when it is I hope everyone is safe and happy <<< if you can't tell, I love them a lot!

    May 27/2014: Before reading
So this is not the conclusion to the Mystic series?
No way am I reading this book or the rest of number five until the last book is out. I know the wait will kill me.

I really love these books, but geez. If this series continues, when will it end? How much longer will they have to go on until they get their happy ending?

  • Mary R. Soto

    I WAS DYING.
    LITERALLY DYING WITH THIS BOOK.
I CRIED SO MUCH. IT TOOK ME 2 DAYS
TO FINISH IT BECAUSE I JUST DIDN'T HAVE
THE STRENGTH TO GO THROUG IT LIKE
    NOTHING'S HAPPENING. OH, GOD. THOSE
BABIES WERE MY LIFE TOO. MY HEART
CAN NOT TAKE ANYMORE OF THIS SH*T.
    5 STARS ♥

**ARC provided by author in exchange for honest review**

DOUBLE REVIEW OF DESTRUCTION (MYSTIC #5) AND DEVASTATION (MYSTIC #5)

**This series must be read in order. They are NOT standalones**

B.C. Burgess’ decision to release both of these books on the same day was a fantastic decision. I was up until 4 in the morning reading them both. I was just wanting to finish Destruction, but with the way it ended, I had to dive straight into Devastation afterwards. Layla and Quin haven’t even been together for a year, but they have been through so much together. What happens in these two books is unpredictable and wild. It’s a rollercoaster of a journey that I don’t think I will ever recover from.

“All I can do is to take comfort in the hope that, no matter what I do, where I go, or what becomes of me, the people and the home I love will stay safe, and that I’ll always have you with me to hold me, love me, talk to me, and help me through the flames.”
    “You will. Always.”

I’ve been terrified to write this review, because I’m scared of going back and opening the books to include quotes. These two books are more powerful than the other four combined! So much goes on, and you never see any of it coming! It’s such an emotional ride. I was wrecked by the time I finished them at four in the morning! I had to read them back to back. There’s definitely a reason that B.C. released them at the same time. I know I already said this, but I’m just preparing you!

“Yes, if for some reason I were to lose him, I’d be beyond crushed. It would destroy me. But this is the only life I’m going to get, and the best thing about my life is Quin. So why on earth would I let him go? I’m willing to take any risk imaginable to keep him, and nothing in the world will stop me from accepting what he has to offer.”

With that being said, I can’t say anything about the plot. Anything I talk about will probably be a spoiler! And there’s a reason that the synopses for both books are vague. It’s best to just jump in. You’ll drown and you’ll get your heart shattered into a million pieces. And when your heart is put back together, it’ll still have cracks and pieces missing. But, hey, I say it’s well worth it. Isn’t that why we read? To feel? To go on an adventure that you in real life could never ever embark on? Well that’s definitely what it’s like to go into Layla and Quin’s world.

“If you have even the tiniest doubt about how much I love you, tell me and I’ll make it go away, because there’s nothing I love more than you. I’d do anything to prove that every minute of every day, and I’ll never stop trying, no matter how many battles we face.”

Sigh, Quin… He’s just so perfect. It’s unreal how devoted he is to Layla and how he strives to be everything she needs. We see a lotttt of new sides to Quin. We see his darker sides, and we see what he’s like when he’s under stress and pain. And Layla, holy crap, there are no words for what Layla has to go through. She’s a changed person by the end of book 5. Again, I can’t say anything, but she definitely took a few hits to my heart with a hammer. I’ll never recover. Thankfully, we still see that amazingly strong bond between Quin and Layla. Honestly, the love that these two share was what got me through this book. They’re so perfect for each other. Hopelessly devoted. Ridiculously sexy. And sometimes nauseatingly sweet. You know, when they’re not getting almost killed. Which happens pretty much every book in this series. We see them go through some of their hardest trials to date, and they prove that they’re not the most perfect couple ever. Yet, they still make it.

“I didn’t fall in love with part of you, Layla. I fell for the whole package. And you can stop looking for my angel, because I’m staring at her. You may be different than the woman I met months ago, but the woman you are today is just as stunning, and I’m madly in love with her.”

This is probably the vaguest review I have ever written. But, if you ever get to these books, you’ll know why. Everything I could possibly say that is plot related would be a spoiler! I mean, I guess I could keep going on and on about how perfect Quin is and how I’ll never find a man like him and how he’s ruined me for real men… Or you could read the book and find out for yourself. I could also go on about how much I freaking love B.C. Burgess. Then again, doesn’t everyone? I’ll just stop by saying that I’m ridiculously scared to see what’s next in store for Quin and Layla…

“I love you. I love how much you love me, and the lengths you go to for me…the distances you’ve gone. I couldn’t do it without you and I can’t tell you what it means to me to have someone willing to stick with me through all this. I know it’s not easy.”
“Loving you is like breathing, Layla—natural and necessary. Every breath of you is a breath of life, and living never felt so good. If I have to fight my way through hell to keep you, that’s exactly what I’ll do.”

Thank goodness book #6 released the same day as #5 because it would have been a long and excruciating wait! When you start Devastation go ahead and prepare yourself to read it straight through. This book is packed full of drama, and you’re going to be on pins and needles up until the last chapter.

Now that Layla has been taken captive by the Dark Guild we cannot help but worry for her life and with no trail to follow we are equally concerned for Quin and the breakdown we know is certain to follow in his desperation.

The forced time apart from one another takes it’s toll on them each. Quin’s world has once again been turned upside down, and being forced away from Layla completely wrecks him not only emotionally but also physically. However, he holds onto his hope of finding Layla, absolutely refusing to give up and now with unwavering confidence in his love and relationship with Layla he joins forces with those he once considered threats.

Layla’s strength, generosity and humanity continues to amaze me. She truly must be an angel! I really enjoyed the scenes of her time in captivity and watching how they changed her. She isn’t the girl we first met in Descension, the dangers over the last several months have striped her bare and left her somewhat jaded. At times I worried she may never find her way back. And while it’s impossible to remain unchanged after all she has been through I was so pleased to see pieces finding their way back and I love and appreciate the woman she has become. Her compassion sets her apart from any other character I’ve met and truly enriches the entire experience.

Oftentimes Layla draws strength from her love for Quin, but she also isn’t afraid to take charge and call the shots when needed. She is after all a woman scorned and those who hurt her should be worried for their own lives because this women will let nothing stand in the way of the ones she loves.

In my opinion Devasatation is the most action packed book of the series yet and will at times leave you breathless. I loved every minute of my time with this book. I would even go as far as to say it’s my favorite one of the series. How can the books continually get better and better? It must be because they are coming from a great author who has the perfect knack for storytelling!

This book is so heartbreaking and the emotions are so deep I can't even describe it. Yet through it all, when we finally get to that moment, the moment of relief and happiness through all the heartbreak, we see that the pain was worth it.

When that little bit of hope came around I clung to it, gasping for air as I prayed for everything to be okay Every situation the characters find themselves in during this book will grab at your heartstrings. They will pull and pull and pull, until you think that just one more pull and you will be nothing more.

his book ends with another freaking Epilogue that again tears into you. After the last chapter ended I knew they weren't safe yet, I knew they still had a lot to work through, but they had a moment of piece after all that time.

And then I read the damned Epilogue. Bonnie is famous for these Epilogues that take the satisfied feeling you get after the last chapter ends and rips the feeling to shreds.

This book is so good, despite the emotional turmoil that you are taken through there is nothing in this book that can take away from the all around depth that the characters have touched in your soul. At least it feels tat way to me.

Layla Love and Quin's heart-wrenching saga continues and I honestly cannot get enough. With Layla's abduction, Quin is thrown on a dark path, leading to death, and Quin's pain at losing the people he holds most dear in his heart is almost palpable. Layla's thorough hero wastes away as she and their three little miracles endures being a captive of the Dark Guild. While it isn't as torturous for Layla as it is for Quin (at least in my opinion), Layla is absolutely devastated (see what I did there?) at being ripped away from her family, and if weren't for the new character, Zio, and his subtle, yet present, her time their would have been unbearable to say the least.

One thing about Layla that is constantly reaffirmed with each new installment is her ability to ease minds and shine her light on the darkest situations like the angel she is (no matter how she sees herself). Layla truly is the personification of compassion, and despite being dealt a hand that most would crumble at the sight of, her heart, as well as her will is proven to be unlike any other on the planet. Without spoiling anything, I must say, other than the first book, this one is definitely my favorite, what with it being ripe with action, heartbreak, and the epic romance I have come to love dearly. Honestly Bonnie has ruined other romances for me; they all pale in comparison, and I'm just fine wit that. Eagerly awaiting book 7!

Book 6 begins where book 5 left us off...Quin wakes up to find his angel gone! He will do everything and anything to save her. he travels back to the Crusaders for help. When Layla awakens, she finds she was captured by the Dark Guild and left in a prison cell where she meets Zio. Zio is one of the sweetest bad guys I have ever met!! She brings Zio out of his shell and tells him about why she was taken and what it means for her and Earth. The lives sacrificed to try and save Layla really will bring you to tears!! Layla has been recaptured and Quin is going crazy trying to find and save her. When Layla is finally found and saved, the devastation she goes through will make anyone's heart melt!! I'm warning you!!! UGLY DEVASTATING CRYING WILL OCCUR!!! Don't mess with an Angel's family, you WILL be sorry!!!
Eventually, Layla and Quin find some peace...
    Or do they????

I am giving BOTH of these books 5 wonderful fantastic heart wrenching stars!!! It's so hard to write a review for these and NOT have tons of spoilers!!! I hope you don't think I've ruined the story for you because there is SO SO SO much more...but if I mentioned anything about those points, it will ruin the entire two books!!

This is definitely not a series that you can read out of order. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the author took the time to note that at the beginning of the book. Not all authors would bother.

This series is like no other that I have read, in a very good way. By the time you get to this book, the characters are like friends. You care about them as much as the MC. The MC is amazing herself, and not because of her tremendous power. To be able to retain so much of yourself after everything that she has been through in the series is nothing short of a miracle. I can not think of a single disappointment in this book. I must say that the ending was even more amazing than I thought it would be.

This book is definitely for adults ages 18+ due to sexual scenes and subject matter.

  • Melissa Travis

Ok. So I have now read the first 6 books in this series.... And I am done. When I first started reading it I was so excited. I loved the plot, characters and everything in between. But somewhere along book 2 it started to loose it's magic. By the time book 5 was here, forget it. I had enough but since I spent $15 on the bundle for books 4-6 I said why the hell not. Let me finish this one. After finishing 6 with another enemy for Layla and the same bs to follow I have decided that that was the end of the series to me. They got their happily ever after and I am good with that.

I can not find it in myself to read another 10,000 pages of "I love yous" and "my angel". Let them argue or something. Or maybe edit some of that shit out. It wasn't necessary for that much mush mush.

  • Lesley Reads

I really love this series and I love Quin and Layla's story, with that said I really hope that there is some happier times ahead of them, they keep on enduring struggle after struggle and it would be nice to read about some happy times for them and their babies without being separated or loosing a close family member, I think that would be a difficult read after everything they have already been through. Still a big fan though and looking forward to the next book!

  • kassandra cox

    Amazing as usual

Layla is back and stronger then ever! I flew through this book and must say I am completely satisfied! I love that with every book you get deeper invested in the characters as well as the side characters who are in the book as well. Layla is definitely not the girl she once was and she proves it tenfold in this book!!!!

  • Brittany

This was such a great addition to the series. I really wish that the author would just give Quin and Layla a HEA already. They have been through enough and I see that there is even a book 7. I mean I love the world and characters and will be sad to see it end but.... it is time for a good HEA.

  • Jana Gundy

Love it! Oh poor Layla but she pulls through like a trooper. Quinn is good too but I love how Layla is a tad more independent now. I can't wait for those baby names!

  • Jessica

if you haven't read these books get them, hide a way from the outside world and read them all, with tissues. you won't be sorry I promise. best series ever

  • Cora

    This is hard.

I liked this and the other stories before this one, but I would like to read an ending. Preferably a happy ending.
