I am not a good person.
And I’ll prove it again. My body count is inconsequential to me.

The angel poses a bigger problem than I thought he would. That f*****g roller coaster of emotions has derailed, leaving my sanity amongst the twists and turns.

A massacre is going to befall Belfast, and I’ll paint the streets crimson when I join.

Maybe I’ll find some truth under all the layers of lies.

I’m coming for the mages’ guild, but A. Moore is still trying to stop me.

He doesn’t seem to realize...

I’m Sloane f*****g King.

The Supreme Alpha,

the Third Devil of Hell,

the High Coven Mistress of Vampyre,

and the Druid’s Princess.

But don’t let those titles fool you…

I’m no damsel in distress.

Mage Massacres (The Chronicles of Sloane King, #5) Reviews

  • Cat Hoffpauir

    4.6 stars.
This one was a lot more emotionally charged than I expected. Though I guess I shouldn’t seen that coming since there was bound to be a little bit of angst in a 7 book series.

I’m excited to see what the hell happens next. Things are starting to come to a head I think.
Somehow, I’m still really enjoying it.

The Supreme Alpha, the Third Devil of Hell, the High Coven Mistress of Vampire, the Druid’s Princess, Sloane King is back in the fifth book in the Sloane King Chronicles. Mage Massacres was freaking fabulous, the plot, the steam, the violence, and the magic was everything all center around characters that I love. This series just keeps getting better and better.

Sloane (Lo) is obviously a badass, she is intelligent, confident, and powerful, she will do anything for those she loves, her treasures but Lo is really pushed to the limits in this one. With everything that has happened with Lo and the guys lately, it has her emotions in chaos and she is trying her best to handle it and everything else. For the first time, her confidence wains and she has a vulnerability that wasn't there before. I really don't blame her it's a lot to deal with, keep the supernatural factions in line, getting used to her new reality with her mates, fight the bad guy who has people everywhere, try to do what the Fates want, and deal with some major betrayal. However Lo still thinks things through, she plans (mostly), takes action, protects her treasures, and is determined to be the leader that her parents are looking for her to be, sometimes through violence.

A couple of things that popped out most about Lo in this book is the betrayal she has to deal with. Lo doesn't let people get close and has no qualms about killing them so when she is deeply hurt by people she trusts it's hard for her to work her way back to them. The second was the idea of right and wrong, good and evil. Lo speculates that she is bad, she's not a good person. She will kill whoever she needs to, whoever hurts her treasures and won't feel bad about it and I gotta say I've read too much paranormal for me to say she is wrong. However the guys insist that she isn't bad she is in the gray zone, she's balance and I totally agree with her, I love Sloane and her willingness to do anything to protect those she loves.

The guys are great except for Palmer, he's done something again, it was bad but things are set right. The other guys are their sexy supportive selves, they are opening up, therefore getting closer to Sloane. Novak is still all in, York is working to repair the damage he's done, Briggs is pretty solid, while Stone is a little frisky through this entire book and it was adorable. The only thing is Vaughn, the fae is still a little reserved but nothing too bad he just has certain ideas about what is going on but surprising things happen. Feelings were running high in this one and I like how the guys cared about Sloane's well-being and tried to be the emotional support she needed. They cheered her up, teased her, supported her, challenged her, and so much more. They were the thing that Lo didn't realize she was missing.

In this book, we get to see old characters and new ones alike. Some of Lo's friends and family come to help out and cause trouble while Palmer's siblings, Miller and Murphy (twins), are introduced. The pair are very similar to Palmer and have extensive parts in the book. I enjoy getting to know them, see them interact not only with Palmer but with the guys (who they previously knew), and see them getting to know Sloane and learning all her quirks was fun. Miller is Palmer's sister and she and Sloane got super close, kinda like a Hyde situation, where Millie just needed a little guidance and some backup to bring out who she really is. The two grow a tight bond and once again mates come into play and Sloane helps things out.

The plot for Mage Massacres was freaking everything. So, Lo has dealt with the vampires, the shifters, and the demons now she has to whip the mages into shape and stop the plot that is bent on the destruction of her family and herself. Learning more about Palmer's past and getting a better look at him and the mages were great. However the real juice was the plot twists that popped up, I mean talk about jaw-dropping, there was no way anyone saw any of that coming. I finished the story in one day, I was riveted from the very beginning, and I'm already missing Sloane and the guys. Looks like Vaughn is up next and I can't wait to read about the Fae realm, it's time to go to Winter.

I finally give up at 30%. I’ve come this far and the pacing is too slow and the heroine was so annoying.

I believe with every bone in my body that all the good reviews are fakers because this book was definitely not it.

    Peace out.

    Awesome

I was starting to get worried about this series to be honest. The first book was PHENOMENAL! Every book thereafter was of lesser quality. This book has redeemed the series. I can only hope the next two books are even better. I can’t wait!

"You're powerful. You're capable. And nothing stands in your way unless you allow it. So don't allow it."

Sloane's story keeps getting more intense as each book is added onto this series and I couldn't be more invested. Her list of to-dos is getting extensive and even I got overwhelmed while reading knowing everything that she and her mates needed to figure out and complete in order to save the supernatural races that have always snubbed Sloane for being as different as she is, whether it be for being a mixed breed, for being a female able to take high seats of power, or for simply being the daughter of multiple powerful leaders. What I love about Sloane is that even though she doesn't really want to save all of these ungrateful beings, she still will because it has to be done. With her leading a good chunk of them, it's her job to make sure they remain safe. No one says her job is fun one, but it needs to be done regardless.

Sloane is one fierce character no matter the situation, but this current book reveals a side of her that she has kept hidden deep down since York first went missing years previously. Emotions aren't something we've really seen from Sloane so far, if you don't count anger, so seeing her experience things such as heartache and pain when she is normally so strong is not only different, but also incredibly humbling in a way. To see that even a character such as her has a breaking point just makes Sloane more relatable to the readers. Her emotions really hit home to me because they seemed so real and so understandable given what she was dealing with at the time.

There was a lot revealed in this book, not just with the issue involving the drugs, but also with Sloane herself and her family. It's a lot to take in so just be prepared for some amazing and unexpected information to be thrown at you. Adele did such a phenomenal job with her story development and world building that even though there are so many plot pieces evolving, they flow so well together that it creates something that forces you to follow along and beg for the next book.

Do You Know Why I’m Happy?

I am not a good person, and neither are you. They keep telling me that I am. But when it’s times like this that make me happy, I begin to question the gray area. Do you know why I’m happy?

There aren’t many people who I care about, but I would destroy realms for any one of them. I have killed, mauled, burned. I’ll do it all over again, too, because they hurt the people that mean everything to me.

I won’t lose any sleep over killing you. I won’t think of your death and wish I hadn’t harmed you. I’ll look your mother straight in the eyes — just like this — and tell her what I’ve done with no remorse. And after I end her life, I’m going to kill your father. Then I’m going to hunt down and torture your mate. Because they’ve hurt my people, and so have you.

I was never meant to be the hero. The Fates created a monster, surrounded her with affection so she wouldn’t become worse than the villain, and asked her to serve justice as she saw fit. We’re all guilty, but some crimes are worse than others.

And to answer my question, I’m happy because I truly am a bad person, and I know it, to my very core. I don’t lie about it, and I don’t pretend to be something that I’m not.

**Trigger Warning Violence and other things be sure to read the TW.**

I can't tell you how much I love this series. The FMC Sloane King is freaking awesome. I mean she is tough and don't take crap from anyone. I mean we know she is a bada$$ however we see her in a different light in this book. We see her vulnerable at times. She is trying to navigate her relationships with all her men but that is kind of hard when they are not being forthcoming. We pick up where book four leaves off and let me tell you Sloane is not a happy camper and her emotions are everywhere. While she is trying to figure out her relationships she needs to handle things at the guild. Well she is met with a bit of assistance. There is a lot that happens and the build up is crazy. Totally worth it though. We learn more information about what is going on. There also seems to be a reunion also. Lets not forget the lucky steamy sessions she gets as well. Gah this book was amazing and I loved every word. I cannot wait for the next book.

Every time I get to jump back into the world of Sloane King, I’m reminded of how much of a baddie she is! Not only is she just a kick butt “heroine” but she takes no crap and I love it! Throughout the series, Sloane has gone through lots with her guys yet everything is still fairly new. She isn’t used to having people around and letting them get below the surface level stuff. We see some of her walls crumble and deal with pesky emotions she can normally just push down and boy did I feel for her! I always enjoy getting to know more about the guys as they handle things from their past or possible future. We saw more steam and twists and turns that still have me reeling! Every book always seems to outdo the last and leave me even more excited for the next book. I can’t believe there are only 2 left!

  • Charlotte Battersby

Another fabulous book in the series! I missed Sloane and her guys and this book didn't disappoint! I loved getting to know more about Palmer's siblings and seeing more into the Mage's problems. I wasn't expecting the twists and turns that were unveiled during this book but they made me more excited for the next in the series.

I love that Sloane was worried about herself not being a good person and we often have the fmc as this hero or anti-hero image. I'm glad M.F. Adele added this small plotline of her doubting her role of sorts in this and accepted herself how she is in the end. I really like the new addition of the pith tokens and can't wait to see how they play out in the next book. I did miss Jack but glad Grim got to make his appearance with telling Sloane off slightly!

Would recommend this series to anyone and excitingly waiting for the next in the series!

  • Charlotte

Sloane King is a killer character (quite literally!!) and one of my favs. She's definitely an anti-hero but still in a caring, sassy way. If that's possible? Still you can't help but like her. Sloane (FMC) and her guys (Briggs, Novak, Stone, Vaughn, Palmer and York) are struggling to work out the ins and outs of their relationship. Even more so when Palmer and Novak brings more complications that cause upset for all of them. More family troubles that add to all of that. Sadly not enough Jack and Grim in this book for me. I lived the background stories that go on along side this one. Namely Millie and Hyde. Which I think add to the way this series completely grips you. With characters you love. That epilogue at the ending was knockout as was the book too. Just brilliant

  • Rachel (Galaxy Girl Reads)

I'm not screaming, it's just a weird ringing in my ears.

Oh. Em. Gee. Sloane is THE bad guy. The monster to corral all others. And I ADORE her for it. Don't walk the line, kill everyone😅

Vaughn is quickly becoming my favorite up there with Stone and Briggs.

Novak is in my doghouse because he's dumb.

Palmer😒😒😒 boy. You know what you did and I'm still angry about it.

I love York. He's the anchor.

I missed Jack in this one. There's only one scene with him and it definitely wasn't enough but I get he has other stuff to do

I am beyond ready to see the outcome of the daughter of Wrath and vengeance getting together with the rest of the sins😈

  • Jennifer

This was probably my favourite books in this series yet. From the beginning Sloan has always been the antihero in this series and her emotions have always been black and white. For the first time you see her confidence is lacking and you start to see fishers of cracks in her emotions. After Sloan thought she lost York she has kept her heart caged and I was excited to see that she was starting to show her true feelings for her mates. Unfortunately Sloan just can’t get a break and is met with betrayal after betrayal. This book was jam packed with new characters, new questions and a few answers! Absolutely loved it!

  • 4foxsake

Definitely one of the best of the series.

An emotional Sloane. It was as shocking as it was so welcomed to read and, as the author states, difficult to write. This is such a great series, load of death & destruction, mates, mayhem & mysteries, and loads of hellfire hot scenes. But Sloane had the emotional capacity of a twig. So to see her actually crack, breakdown, take time to process and work through things… was refreshing, and I’m really glad the author took the time for the character development.

I’ve been waiting for Vaughn’s book since the beginning of the series and I absolutely cant wait for the story in the fae realm!

  • Dominique

I loved getting back into my favorite psycho's story. I feel like Sloane has continued to evolve and change as this series progresses. The connections between her and her mates are deeply emotional and constantly changing. The steam is an added bonus. The storyline continues to keep me interested to the point of staying on my mind until the next book comes out. I can't help but love every second of reading this series and Mage Massacres only added onto that joy!

  • Reyne Clark

Mage Massacres, the latest book in The Sloane King Series, is chock-full of new revelations and intrigue. We also see a more emotional side of our bada$$ heroine, Sloane King. I loved this book and can't wait for the next book in this Series! If you can't get enough of sexy Alphas, Why Choose, plenty of steam, paranormal/urban fantasy, a great storyline, plenty of action, and a kick-a$$ heroine, this one needs to be on your TBR! 4 Stars!

  • shamell klinger

    Worth waiting for

I think this book was even better than the ones before. I got totally wrapped up in Sloane emotions almost as much as she did. Finding out who Raguel really is was a big surprise I didn't see coming. I'm going to be looking for the next book on pre-order probably weekly if not more often. I can't get enough of this series. I didn't even put this book down from start to finish

  • Esmeralda Silva Tenazinha

What can I say, Sloane in One awesome badass super females woman! Vampire. Demon. She thinks She is evil but She is not. She just protects Those who can't or Wont. Also, do not mesa with her tresures... It Will not end well. In this book we focus on the Mage realm and Belfast is going to be very busy with this group there. I hate the Angel, such an evil jerk. And out fae... So cute. It just lets us with an huge Will to do somthing to him... Good stuff only. I can't wait for Vaughn book.

  • Christine Stephens

    Love Sloane

I love Sloane and her men and was absolutely thrilled to read this book. It's as delicious as the others but with so many answers to questions I didn't even realize I was internally asking. I can't believe the twists and turns in this book and I'm so excited for the next book and where the journey takes them next.

  • Jennifer Bishop

Sloane is honestly one of my favorite FMC’s, she is amazing! I so love her bada$$ness and blood thirsty ways! I love the dynamics of the relationships between Sloane and her guys, and of course I loved the steaminess as well! This fifth book, as with the first four, is fantastic! I definitely recommend this book and series and cannot wait for the next book!

  • Kelly Bugler

    Brilliant series! Brilliant book!
Sloane, Devastated by the loss of her mate and what this truly means, haves to work out what is truly important to her, Vengeance or forgiveness.
The Mages keep disappearing and ex's just keep appearing and not the ones you ever wanted to see again.
This was an action packed book and i cannot wait for the next book to see what happens.

  • Brenda K Rhame

    We've all been there

I think we have all been overwhelmed emotionally to the point where we have to shut down just to cope. A harem of 7 people have to learn each other's limitations and coping mechanisms. It is a tough road but Sloan and her men not only triumph but they are beginning to build their army.

  • Angel Stewart

    Love it

Just Amazing! I can't wait for the next book in the series. I love everything about Mage Massacre from the hot chemistry between characters and the crazy killings of a badass MFC I just couldn't stop reading I had to get to the end I needed to know how it ended. Amazing work M.F Adele.

  • Beth

    Where was it?

I'm still waiting for an actual apology from Palmer. I won't say what he did, just that I don't remember him actually telling Sloane he was sorry, the guys heard that, but he never said it to her, so I'm still waiting and I think I'll be waiting forever. Same goes for the dad's. Novak...... Millie and Murphy were fun additions.

  • BookishLeoReads

AHHH! I don’t know what I’m going to do when this series is over! Sloane is such a freaking BADASS! I’m always looking forward to see how her relationships with her mates are evolving and who is going to become her next target. Can’t wait for the next book!

  • Jasmine Hoisington

Holy smokes I am glad I had a long weekend!!! this series continues to get better and better as it goes. The world building is amazing, the character building is fabulous, and Sloane is freaking amazeballs!

  • Amber

    ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I love this series and adore these characters so much. This book was just as spectacular as the rest though I didn't get enough Jack in this one. I can't wait to see what winter will bring in this next book! WINTER IS COMING!
