“Maybe I can be of assistance?” They all turned to look at the voice. “Pilgrim.” The Sheriff gave a nod to the man.
An older man stood there, one she recognised from the past two nights at dinner. He’d sat at the other end of the table to her. “I'm in need of a travel assistant. You mentioned you were heading out past Tucson. I am traveling in that direction myself, but I need someone to assist me on the journey and help me set-up my homestead. The last leg of my journey to here in truth was more than I could manage. If you're willing to take a contract I'll pay your debt here.”
“But I don't know you Sir.”
“You didn't know the waggon trail family either but you went with them on a contract what's the difference?”
“You are alone Sir they were a family.”
“Be assured, I have no designs on you young woman. I really need the help and assistance to make the journey easier and the work on my land when I get there. I'm not getting any younger and not looking for trouble this is my last pioneering adventure.”
She wasn't sure and hesitated. She didn't know this man.
"Well, what will it be lass? I've no time to waste. It's a good, indentured contract. I'll pay you the going rate, it will cover your debts and give you some in your pocket. You work for me for three years, I pay for your board and keep during that time, you'll have your own room, and it will get you to where you want to go. When the time is up, you choose to stay or leave. Up to you."
They were not her debts, but no one was listening. "What does indentured mean exactly?"
"For three years, you do what I say, you are my servant, my worker. Sell your Stage ticket and make your money last, there will be no more until the end of the three years and we settle up. You will not be able to find other work and you cannot leave me until the contract is finished. If you do or fail to do your work commitment, it is punishment by the law."
She worried her lip. "I do not know you."
He shrugged. "And yet you are living in a Saloon with `strangers."
Shaking her head, she had no idea how this had happened. One minute she was packing for the Stage and then she was shocked to find her money gone and asking for the Sheriff. Then somehow accused of having a large debt that wasn’t hers. She'd never been in trouble in her life. And then found a whole story that she knew nothing about and no one listening to her.
Her money stolen. The hotel manager had called the Sheriff as she’d asked but basically accused her of being in cahoots with the man who left saying she was his wife and would pay his hotel bill with no means of being able to do so.
The whole thing was crazy.
But she couldn't seem to get out of it. Now she had no money and a debt. And this seemed the only option open to her.
Wiping her tears, she steeled herself for what she must do. "I will do the work, but I will do no more than that." She told the man the Sheriff referred to as a 'Pilgrim.' Luckily for her, going in the right direction. "I'm the victim here!" She told both the Sheriff and the Pilgrim in desperation.

CW. contains rape scenes.
The so called hero rapes her.
The sex scenes are beyond ridiculous, no foreplay, no arousal, her a virgin, but it supposedly only stings a little, and she climaxes twice. Ha Ha
He has no consent either that first time, and the second he slams her face into the table, rips her clothes off, and forces himself on her, but again, she supposedly enjoys herself, isn’t afraid, or damaged by him.
I gave up at this point.
This was a total farce of a romance, and should have come with clear CW’s.
This was absolutely nothing like the other works from this author that I’ve read.
It’s a good thing I didn’t read this first, as I would never have read anything else by them. -
Wonderful story
It was friendship and family. There was different races of peoples. T was full of unexpected love and the sex was great. Read 18 above. Love the rated.
