There is wildness right in the heart of the city. High on the ledges of the tallest buildings, the peregrine and ticerel come to lay their eggs.
The compelling story of these fierce, beautiful birds.
Peregrines in the City Reviews
-
A beautifully illustrated book about peregrine falcons nesting in Melbourne. As well as educational information in back. I didn't know that the female is larger than the male.
-
A magnificently illustrated narrative nonfiction book that recounts the breeding cycle of a pair of peregrines living in the heart of Melbourne. The text is informative and engaging and the authors have embedded correct terminology within the narrative relying on the reader to correctly interpret the meaning through text and illustrations. This works well except for 'tiercel' where it is not as clear that this term relates to the male peregrine. A glossary at the end would be useful for younger readers.
The design of the book is superb with larger, coloured font complimenting and extending the text and illustrations - such as shaped within the sweep of the wings, or mirroring the colour of the egg shells. A fascinating and informative information book that is greatly enhanced by the accurate and detailed illustrations. -
Narrative non fiction at its best!
