Hawksmoor's London Churches.: A Brief Introduction by Ray Lambert

This book is a brief introduction to the London Churches designed by Nicholas Hawksmoor and built in the first half of the eighteenth century. With short summaries of the circumstances that led to their construction and of Hawksmoor’s style of architecture, it can be used as a guide to the churches and their locations in London. There are extensive illustrations in the forms of photographs and sketches with commentary on the locales and architectural features of these important churches. We visit these great buildings roughly in order of the dates of construction, which coincides with their locations East to West across London. .The book can be used as a virtual tour as there are ample images of the churches and other historic buildings with much useful information about them in approachable language. I have also included a short introduction to the elements of Classical Architecture, which gave Hawksmoor his design language and provided sources of inspiration for his own creations.
