The Shop Around the Corner: A Sweet, Small Town, Southern Romance (Sweet Tea and a Southern Gentleman Book 2) Reviews

Do any of these books feel complete?
No.
Can I stop myself from reading them and obsessing over what happens next? No.
Even with the main character being a complete pain in the ass downer.
But I can not quit! Read the first two almost back to back, has to wait three days for it to come out. I’m honestly surprised we have to wait so long for the next one…but I preordered it as well. With a little disdain, if you catch my drift. -
I couldn’t put this book down. I loved the first one The Inn on Harmony Island, I couldn’t wait for the Shop Around the Corner to come out. It was there this morning when I got up and already finished. The series gives me full Sweet Magnolias vibes and I’m here for it. I love Miles and Shelby and I love getting some closure to the end of the first book. I can not wait to see what else comes with this series. I need more Bash!

It was enjoyable! Live that american small town vibe...
However, Shelby, darling... took you a bit long darling. But all is forgiven. -
I kept waiting for this to get spicy but it just never happened. It didn’t happen in book 1 and I thought surely book 2, but no. So if you like some spice with your romance look elsewhere.
You finally get the conclusion to Miles and Shelby’s story. It was just such a slow burn… If you didn’t enjoy the slow burn from book one, prepare for disappointment because it just continues in book 2, with some added miscommunication trope thrown in.
I really liked Abigail and Bash but not much happens there either. I feel like all the stories are just too drawn out.
Sabrina seemed like she was turning a corner on her postpartum depression that everyone seemed oblivious to somehow… but then nope. And it was never fully explained what happened to land her in the hospital.
Now for the biggest annoyance… Shelby’s injury at the end of the book, what was with this scene?! She gets knocked unconscious by a tree branch, her head is bleeding, and she’s pinned under the branch for god knows how long in a rain storm. Miles finds her and takes her back to the Inn and then they are just making out??? What?!? He checks her body over for injuries but never looks at her head that was at one point bleeding?? Shouldn’t she be taken to the hospital and assessed for a concussion?? But no, let’s just make out and then go to sleep. Even in the morning Tamara asks if she’s ok and Shelby’s response “am I not ok?” No Shelby. No. You’re not ok! Please take yourself to the hospital! You have a concussion! You probably needed stitches. But you know what let’s just go make out with Miles again, it’s all good. -
Love Miles and Shelby
I have to confess that I "only" read the series because of Miles and Shelby... (everyone else is secondary to me although I know they're not to the author) so I'm sad to read that we won't be seeing much more of them in the next book.😥 Otherwise, I would have liked to have read much more about their lives myself. The wedding but also happy that Bella became a big sister to Miles and Shelby's baby. We know Miles is a great dad, but I would have loved to see him as a husband to Shelby and to see how much he was willing to do for her during her pregnancy.
So Anne-Marie, I hope you consider telling the part that their lives are falling apart. (Then I will readily promise that I will also buy the next book to read those chapters) 😉 -
A bit jumbled, but fundamentally good.
I’m enjoying the love story of Shelby and Miles a lot. But it feels like the other characters keep getting in the way, rather than enriching the main story. This has dragged out Miles’ and Shelby’s story over two books so far (along with Shelby’s insistence that she can’t face her past) and I find this a little frustrating.
I’m sure the other character’s story arcs will come to fruition in the next book, and that their inclusion will make more sense when that happens. This will make reading this series more satisfying. Right now I’m kind of wishing that I’d waited until the series was complete before I started it. There is too much left unresolved for my taste. -
These characters and this town has my heart! I love them so much! Miles is ideal book boyfriend! Would do anything for you, protects you and loves you so hard!
He puts his daughter first and if we k ow anything it’s I’m a sucker for a single dad story.. he and Bella are so cute and loved seeing more of them in this book! Also Shelby’s journey is so beautiful.
We saw more of Abigail in this book and I NEED to more about Sebastian!! Also I have major red flags with Anders…my gut is screaming that he’s bad news!
Need book 3!!

I will always have a soft spot for Miles and Shelby.
This was my first romance that started the decent down the spicy romance rabbit hole.
While I enjoyed Anne-Marie's setup in the first book. I failed to find the same page turning desire in this book.
The writing is ok, and Anne-Marie kept the situation plausible, for which I am grateful.
I'm glad that the writing didn't feel like we were missing a chunk of something more when it ended.
I won't be continuing with the other books as I wasn't drawn to the other characters quite like M & S. -
The Shop Around the Corner
What an interesting set of events, Shelby is dealing with a feeling she needs to let Miles have a chance with Belle’s mother. And, Abigail is dealing with more and more business, good thing, she has Shelby to help. There is so much mystery behind certain memories, people, hang on for what is to be revealed. -
Although it was good to get a happy ending to miles and shelby’s story, I disliked the constant back and forth and felt the ending was rushed. Overall a good book but not rushing to read the next one in the series.
-
I really love her books but not sure they are 5 star worthy. Will I keep reading them all? Most definitely. Miles and Shelby are my favorite and kind of sad that aren’t going to be in the next book as much. But really interested to see what happens with Bash.

Gah I just feel like this storyline has so much potential. I can NOT stand Shelby. I love Abigail and the whole coffee shop/book store vibe. I need more depth and character development, I need a bit more romance and commitment to the story. Definitely an easy read though!
-
J’ai dû me retenir d’étrangler Shelby tout le long du livre.
Je la hais de toute mon âme mais bon les autres personnages sont sympas -
emotional.....
-
Nice progression to the character development & story lines that are unfolding. Looking forward to the next one.
-
Still waiting to figure out more about Dash. Easy read. Lots of jumping around 2within the story. I am hoping the 3rd book closes some gaps. Love the book setting.
-
Gaps of information and somewhat repetitive at times but I still can’t help but read and wonder what is going to happen next 🙃
-
Whoever convinced me to read this series can go to hell. That was boring as fuxk. Anti-climatic.
-
more development than the first but still not the best

The conflict was really dragged on, and honestly could have been resolved early on. I liked Abby and Bash’s stories and that Shelby and Miles ended up together. However, I was still hoping for more than just the build up. I liked seeing Shelby meet new friends. Overall I wish there was more between the couple I also don’t think I will read the third book because I know I’m not going to get closure for Miles and Shelby and Im really only going to be reading for Abby and Bash but Im not interested in the new characters being introduced.
