From the bestselling author of The Last Mrs. Parrish and Audible Original The First Shot comes an edge-of-your-seat novella of two women, the shocking betrayal that drove them apart, and a sinister secret that could change everything.

Iris Thomas thought she’d never have to see Sasha Everett again after Sasha seduced her husband and broke up their marriage in a devastating betrayal. But as luck would have it, when Iris’s stepdaughter Molly and Sasha’s daughter Bailey wind up in the same second grade class at an elite private school in Los Angeles, they form an instant bond and force the two women back into each other’s lives.

Iris wants to put the past behind her and support Molly, but as time goes on, she suspects that Sasha may be guilty of something even worse than adultery–of a crime so sinister, no one besides Iris thinks it’s possible. But Sasha’s fooled Iris once before. This time, can she uncover the truth before it’s too late?

Although this story was somewhat unbelievable, I really enjoyed it. It’s fast paced and extremely entertaining. The main twist was predictable, but didn’t hinder my interest. The narration added a layer of mystery and intrigue. If you’re looking for a quick, soapy and entertaining listen, this is for you. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a disappointment - it was so predictable that it was embarrassing. I dropped down to plus audible only, over a year ago and I still have five book credits that I haven't used. What can I say. I love my libraries and rarely find something on audible that I can't find at the library. Now, I find myself scouring the plus catalog to find a gem and instead find that I've already read most of the ones worth reading. This writing duo is one of my favorites but the novella was just meh.

May 29th - hahahaha - I totally missed the punny title...that might be the cutest thing about this story🤣🤣🤣 the whole story stems (no pun intended) on assisted reproductive technology

2.5 stars. I enjoyed this free audible original of just under three hours. I didn't see the twist coming and I really disliked the one character, I can't believe that actual people can be this despicable, but who knows maybe I've just been lucky to never have met anyone like this.

Unfortunately, the narration of the non-evil character bugged me - it felt excessive and distracted from the actual story.

This was a story where the plot was way too easy to guess ahead of time. After all the build-up, I hated the ending. I didn't find it at all believable or feasible. If Iris was that determined to get answers, why would she just walk away from doing anything once she had those answers? The book's plot has been played out in different ways in real life, but was still an interesting enough story. It definitely shows what some people will do to get what they want.

I loved this one for a free read. Short and sweet for an easy listen and juicy and dark!!

Iris is forced to deal with her ex-husband and he's new wife Sasha when her step daughter becomes best friends with their daughter. A difficult situation is made worse as Sasha was her fertility doctor and became pregnant while Iris was still in treatment.

But whose child is this little girl who looks so much like Iris really.

An easy enough listen and short but very predictable.

It was okay. I'm always excited to read Liv Constantine. The plot wasn't bad but too obvious and I hated the ending.

    Recommend to others?: Maybe.

A short and sweet novella by the dynamic duo - Liv Constantine. A tale of two women who would do anything for love but at what cost? This was an entertaining listen and in true Liv Constantine fashion, there were twists and turns that will keep you on edge. Loved it and highly recommend if you’re looking for something quick to listen to.

This read like a ridiculous Lifetime movie. Just like their movies, the foolishness sucks you in because it’s so entertaining. The plot toed the line of being believable, but I couldn’t wait to see how it would unfold. Sasha was a hot mess! I loved when the skeletons in her closet were exposed. The men in the book were so gullible and goofy. It was comical. This was a quick, fun listen. I’m glad I gave it a shot.

  • Bethany Blake

Fun and quick listen but it was a bit predictable and didn’t have that huge twist that usually comes from these authors. With that said, still super entertaining and an easy listen.

  • Marcy

    Nope 👎🏽

  • Kacy❁

What a waste of 3 hours. Terrible story, shallow characters, uninteresting, and anyone could guess that damn ending a mile away.

  • Mindy

    Meh.

  • Jami

This was an average, predictable short story. I thought it would be more is a suspense/thriller, but it was not.

  • Lesli

    Painfully obvious and predictable

I love this duo’s writing. I always find their stories so much fun to read and wait anxiously for their new releases. I was so excited when I saw Misconception on Audible, but after listening to it I must say it was their weakest offering to date. The plot got predictable pretty soon so I was hoping for some kind of twist that would turn everything upside down, but no, what you see is what you get. Also the ending was completely unrealistic. Entertaining and easy listen but nothing to write home about.

Three stars was a stretch. The characters’ dialogue felt like it was written by an angst-ridden teen. I figured it out really early on. Maybe it’s the way the narrator read it but it also seemed to make it feel more juvenile.

MISCONCEPTION, predictable yet also enjoyable and satisfying, is a two hour Audible novella.

Iris’s stepdaughter Molly is best friends with her ex’s bio daughter Bailey, whose mother Sasha was Iris’s former fertility doctor. Sasha cheated with Iris’s now ex-husband during those fertility treatments. Iris hoped to never see her ex and Sasha again. As Molly and Bailey’s friendship deepens, Iris notices her own similarities with Bailey and begins to suspect the unimaginable.

    SPOILERS

Character wise, Iris is as nearly perfect as Sasha is irredeemable. Iris’s ex does the right thing and they all live happily ever after while Sasha goes unpunished to offend again.

  • Sylvie Rochon

This was entertaining. Iris is a 44 year old woman remarried and step-mother to Molly a 7 year old girl. Sasha is an Invitro-specialist, mother of Bailey and married to Donnie, Iris' ex-husband. 8ris and Sasha are forced to interact when Molly and Bailey become best-friends. There is a bit of suspense in this one though it becomes clear to the listener what is going on.

The entire plot was painfully obvious from the beginning. The dialogue was ridiculous. Each character had precisely one personality trait.

My only excuse for finishing this is that I have a 90 minute commute and I had to know if I was 100% correct about the ending. If you’re more bored than you’ve ever been in your life, I guess this would do the trick to pass some time.

    Great book Title.
After you read the book, you will get the title name.
I didn't get the name until just now. I guess maybe, I put more thought into it.
    This was VERY interesting.
    Very Absurd.
    Very Karen-ish.
    I enjoyed!
    BEACH READ FOR SURE!!!
    I recommend.

I don't really know how to rate this. Most of my criticism comes from the fact that this story, in my opinion, would have done better as a full novel. I kind of think the authors missed an opportunity to really weave a juicy tale with the premise that was presented. I think that because a lot of plot had to be squeezed into a novella, the way the information was presented made it very obvious from early on what the reveal would be.

So basically Sasha, a fertility doctor, stole the embryos of a woman, Iris, whose husband, Donnie, she was having an affair with and implanted them into herself in order to get pregnant and convince him to leave Iris and marry her, which he did. 7 years later by chance Sasha and Donnie are back in Iris's life because their daughter and her stepdaughter are in the same class and are best friends. Certain features and mannerisms that the little girl has makes Iris suspect that she's biologically hers. If the story had been full length, I think the authors would have had more time to let Iris come to that conclusion. It's like you know we have to move it along, because it's a novella, and you can suspend disbelief for that reason, but a person would really be crazy to come to that conclusion based on a mole similar to Iris or the fact that the child likes mint chocolate chip ice cream like Iris does.

I was dissatisfied with the ending too. That bitch Sasha did not deserve to leave the marriage with half of Donnie's fortune, her medical license and practice in tact, and an opportunity to destroy another marriage. She deserves to be in jail and the fact that she got to get away scott free is bothering me.

Overall I did like the book and will probably try these authors out again.

UGH. I think this was a freebie in the Audible catalog. Still, I want my money back! Only thing worse than the stilted narration was what I can only loosely describe as a plot. It was so predictable and contrived that I kept imagining a 17-year-old writing this novella as an assignment for their English class. Packed with clichés and tired dialogue, you could see the ending coming from about 20% in. It really did not take long to know exactly what the big surprise was going to be, and how it would turn out. Saccharine sweet, with some severely weird elements that just wouldn’t pass the smell test.

    ☠️SPOILER ☠️

For example: once it is revealed that Sasha stole the fertilized egg and had it implanted into herself, the child’s BIOLOGICAL father decided that it would be a good idea to give up all parental rights and the biological mother retains FULL custody. Of a seven-year-old. Who has now just lost both her mother and her father. No judge in America would award sole custody to the biological mother in this case. Especially since the father actually loved the child. I can suspend judgment on a lot of things, but that was just total bullshit.

Misconception is the first I have read from Liv Constantine. Constantine is the pen name of two sisters that are authors. Constantine has been on my list to read, and I finally got the chance with this novella.

Misconception was a decent novella. I could tell early on what direction the story was going to go in, and it did. There really wasn’t any intrigue but close to the end once everything was confirmed I was interested in what was going to happen next. You could say there is a tiny cliffhanger with what might happen next. This novella shows just what a determined person could and would do to get what they want.

Both narrators portrayed the characters of Iris and Sasha as they should have been. You really grow to hate one particular character! This character was 1000% unlikable! I enjoyed the ultimate ending and with where it goes and what may happen next.

Told from the POV of two women, one who appears to have everything and the other just putting her life back together. Sasha is a prominent LA fertility doctor, with a handsome actor husband and adorable 7yo…too bad that she’s an evil, conniving witch! Iris has just found her 2nd chance love after her devastating divorce and failed attempts at IVF. Fate has fun with these two when their daughters (Iris’s step daughter) become best friends. Turns out that Sasha had been Iris’s doctor and had an affair with her husband. Imagine the dramaaaaa! This story kept me entranced and elicited many emotions…like b’tch sl@pping Sasha!! Great story and even better narration by the new-to-me team.

I am almost embarrassed to say I finished this book. The plot is nearly ludicrous (I say nearly only b/c people prove to be more and more psychotic with each passing day). The characters are horribly under developed and the language, thoughts and dialogue between characters is almost crude in it’s simplicity. The idea behind the book is just intriguing enough and probably (unfortunately) possible that had it been written better it could have been so much more. I felt like I was reading a first attempt at storytelling by an overly ambitious but certainly brazen author. I give it two stars for “good effort”.

  • Jana Coleman

I'll give it 3 stars for originality, but I could see the plot twist from miles away. I wasn't even halfway through the story and I already knew how it was going to end. Then the author summed it all up with a simple online DNA test, and didn't even show us how the confrontation between Iris and Donnie went down... She could have done so much more with this story, and made it that much better. I'm glad it was free in the audible plus catalog. This story just isn't worth paying for with how she ended it so one simply.
