I loved the character of Agni Mitra. He is sharp minded & well developed character in the story. And I love all the flaws that other characters have that leads them to the crime. I didn't liked the Avigyan's personality. Writing style & language both are easy & good. Plot has gripping touch that will hook you till the end. Ending was unpredictable it will leave u in a thought after knowing the criminal name. As the same happend with me in the last.

It happens rarely when i like to give full five stars to a book. But it's obvious for such edge-of-seat crime thrillers.
The double murder case was itself intriguing and even when reasons of both deaths were different. Many people were involved with many wrong doings and every chapter unveiled them turn by turn. I was in awe with every twist and turns. I could guess the culprit but how everything was explained at the right time was satisfying.
I have become a fan of ACP Agni Mitra and eager to read other books in this series. He is genius and his instincts always prove right. And what a climax! I couldn't stop reading when he was exposing everything while sitting calmly on the tarace.
The story was more than amazing as you can guess from the synopsis. The writing style is attractive. I love such fast paced crime thrillers. The characters are developed very well. If you are in reading slump or finding any book which can grab you from the first page itself, this is the one, just go and run for this book :D -
A good detective thriller is my cup of coffee at any given day. This one just had the perfect blend of suspense, intrigue and mystery surrounding it. ACP Agni Mitra is tye investigating officer in the unnatural death of a popular singer - Debolina Mukherjee. She was found dead due to overdose of medicines. What was more surprising was that the police found another body with her. A body if a man who was shot point blank in the head.
During the course of the investigation, ACP Agni Mitra seeks the assistance of several people which gives new perspective to the case.
Several secrets are revealed through the course of the investigation which are appaling to the reader. ACP Agni Mitra was sharp witted and wants to get to the bottom of the case.
The author has developed the characters very well which made it interesting and gripped my attention till the very end. If you are a thriller fan, this book is for you. -

The book is an intriguing story, this is the third book I am reading penned by the author and u have to confess he aces this genre. There are so many twist and turns in the book that if I land up sharing them in my excitement will land up giving spoilers but let me share a little snipped which will intrigue you to buy your copy and read.
Popular singer Deboleena Mukherjee is found dead in her room with a stranger who is shot in the head. Deboleena died due to overdose of sedatives and this stranger had an overdose as well as a shot in the head. Not a single clue to begin with and then ACP Agni Mitra steps in to solve this case and this starts the investigation and so does the thrill begins. Through the book you realise the ACP is solving double murder case which makes it more thrilling and exciting. The climax is fabulously well crafted just love the way the entire story comes together and the way the end culminates with the hidden agendas of each one of the characters.
I enjoyed this fast paced thriller and it was a refresher for me between the other genres I am reading. I am sure it will do the same for you. A short crime read which will add to some action in your reading schedule too. -
Ok so, WOW. This book is literally one of the most brilliantly executed psychological thrillers I've read in my entire life.
First, I think the fact that it was set in Kolkata (my city) contributed greatly to my fascination of it. Second, the language was lucid and comprehensive. Third, the theme around which the entire story revolved- love, unconventional love, and the way the puzzle all stringed together to give us this end, was pure genius. Fourth, I think it's safe to say that this book contains some of the most...disturbingly interesting characters (to put it mildly) I've ever come across.
Overall, 'Trail of Blood' was just the kind of book I needed to read right now. Unpopular opinion, but the absurdity of it was almost refreshing to a certain extent. I can, without hesitation, put it on the same pedestal as Verity. A short must-read! -

The Trail of Blood is an Indian police procedural crime fiction novel that follows the lead detective ACP Agni Mitra as he solves crimes. This book is a part of the ACP Agni Mitra series. I have not read the previous volumes, but this one pretty much works as standalone police procedural with a specific case that comes to its natural conclusion by the end of the book.
The language is crisp and concise and the narrative is evenly paced. This one is a good, slow burn. The author has done a great job of including the key elements of crime fiction. The narratives (past-present and of different characters) are neatly tied together. The writing is very vivid and it is easy to visualise the characters, their mannerisms, their angst and expressions.
I just wish there was more of a thrill to the story, more drama and emotional depth.
The book starts out great, the prologue sets the atmosphere of mystery and intrigue and notches up the tension for the upcoming narrative. But as the story progresses, the narrative slows down and somewhere in the process of the investigation, the suspense and thrill peter out.
I have to admit I couldn’t relate to the MC to the extent I wanted to. This may be because in this book I only get a small glimpse into his personal life and a couple of his previous cases. Perhaps the previous books set a stronger tone for Agni’s character arc and one may need to visit those to follow his journey through the books.
One question that itches at me as of now is - Isn’t ACP a much higher post in the Police? Should an ACP be out doing grunt work in the field when he can easily employ his subordinates to go and interview POIs and do other routine investigative work?
As a reader, I like to invest in my detectives. I like to know their mental state and their home lives. I really like Mitra’s character and the backstory that is referred to in this book. I am definitely going to read the previous books to know more about him. Maybe I will find the answers to most of my questions in them!
All in all, I enjoyed reading this one. I am a Crime fiction junkie but I rarely read Indian police procedurals. I am so glad I read Trail of Blood. The writing is very meticulous and intelligent. The transitions, the cut and fade, the tying up of all the separate narratives. As a writer, I found it extremely insightful!
The Trail of Blood is a thoroughly engrossing read. And if you are a reader like me, I recommend reading ‘In The Shadows of Death’ before you pick Trail of Blood. I am assuming that’s the first appearance of Agni Mitra and showcases much more of his own life than this one.

Millions think that life is all about lust and power but when they come to know what real life is their time to live ends because the pot of there's unholy sins filled beyond the point in this book you will see this quote becoming true.
The plot of the book is good but I felt it lacked a tinge of excitement I mean to say it lacked suspense throughout the book overall book is good to read but the thing is book could've been better because the plot is so good.
I feel the character needed more back stories and some dark events so that the story could look more intriguing and interesting to read and could have been a page of Turner.
The ending of the book is nice and I liked how the author ended the story it was weaved beautifully.
The story runs parallel to the present and the past connecting dots on how it all started and how it ended.

The crime scene is very strange, no one heard any noises from the victims before the crime happened and the man that was with Deboleena wasn't a part of their crew or someone they knew he was a totally random person how did he even get there and what was he doing? Is he connected to her? If so then why doesn't anyone around know him at all?

After having lost someone very close to her, it was pretty easy to assume that Debolina might have been suffering from depression and as a result, took the decision to end her own life.However, it is not as simple as what meets the eye as there were so many different facets to the story, not limiting to how there was another death that happened at similar time and there might be a relation between the two.

The officer this case is appointed to is ACP Agni Mitra, he's a fierce officer and he's good at what he does and he's totally determined on cracking this case, but of course it's anything but easy the suspect list goes on and on and he doesn't know from where to start and the case to begin with is quite peculiar. I love how the story unfolds. The story starts with Agni Mitra having nightmares related to his dead wife. He is in constant struggle to overcome the grief of losing his lovely wife.

No wonder I love reading murder mysteries so much. They are always so twisted and keep you hooked till the end. There is always this curiosity to know what will happen next. Why did this thing happen? Who did it? How is this even possible? Oh my God, this is the person behind everything!😱 and the list of reactions goes on. This is what happened to me too while reading this book. I was always on the edge of my seat to know what will happen next. What is this story going to reveal now? If I had a choice I would have read this book all day and night. It was that intriguing.
The story is about Debolina Mukherjee and ACP Agni Mitra is given the case to solve her murder mystery. She was found dead in her room along with a stranger and no one knows who that stranger is and what was he doing in Debolina’s bedroom. As I read the book I felt that there were multiple points of view of different people and with that multiple stories too. A glimpse into everyone's life and how it is related to Debolina’s death. The story had so many twists and turns and so many stories intervened with it that it kept me wanting for more till the end when everything started becoming clear and the mystery was solved.
In this, not just one but two murder mysteries were solved. One of Debolina and another one of her husband Kingshuk. That is how the story begins, with the death of Kingshuk. It makes you realize how a minor misunderstanding, an action taken in haste, or making decisions without knowing the whole story can cost you your life, your job and whatnot!
I loved the way the author wrote points of view of different people and multiple stories and how they were intervened at the end with everything solved in a way which made me gasp in shock. The book made me smile, sad and made me feel so many things in one go. It is worth the appreciation.
I recommend this book to all mystery lovers. -
So let's just straight get on to the review part, because as you read on, you will find bits and baubles about the story anyway. Also, on the onset I definitely want you to go check out the book description on Amazon and buy it for your book collection, BECAUSE this has to be on one of the best Indian murder mystery novels that there is out right now. I mean twists upon twists upon twists, is how I like my murder mysteries. And this book delivers it.
So we are introduced to ACP Agni Mitra, who is investigating a double murder in a locked room. He is sharp, witty and gave me that quintessential Bengali detective vibes. There were only a handful of characters, but each played an important role in the story. I loved how the author incorporated each character into the mystery and never left any one "unattended". And because of that just when I thought I had it all figured out, I was wrong again. I mean you could potentially guess how everything might have happened, but I scrambled up the chess pieces on where each were supposed to be. That in itself, made me love the book more.
The 2 in 1 mystery elevated the whole story. Definitely didn't expect the twist at the end though. But honestly it made sense.
Now, I do have a few suggestions for every book I read. For this book, I wish there was more incorporation of that rich Bengali culture that I love so much. I was craving for some vernacular language. I was like "All these Bengali characters and not one dialogue in bangla?!" Yes, I love bengali culture that much. Also, it would have been what we call it "sone pe suhaga", if we could have had a bit more perspective of Deboleena.
Nevertheless, the book is great by itself. Go check it out because I am giving it 5 stars!!! -

The cover of the book is attractive and enigmatic. It pulls the reader in and compels them to flip the pages trying to figure out the relevance of the book cover. Well to me it was quite catching. The book has a wonderful story to begin with it doesn't leave the reader's mind untouched.
The book is about the murders of two people a famous singer Debolina Mukherjee and a stranger who was shot dead with bullet in his head. Debolina is a social media sensation. She was in depression as she lost someone very close to her. She might have ended her own life. But where does this stranger comes from.
There was something more about the case which ACP Agni Mitra saw and went on finding the traces to the case. He too lost someone special so he knew what Debolina was going through. Filled with thrill and suspence the story proceed with mind boggling twists and turns.
I must say, I'm thoroughly thrilled in awe of the book. Absolutely loved the setting and the story, while the pacing kept me turning the pages rapidly without a stop. I read the entire book in one go (which I rarely do) and I am amazed by it. My heart raced as ACP Agni Mitra struggled to piece together the puzzle in order to unravel this mystery. What is the reason behind these killing? Is ACP able to find the answers he was looking for? Those who love the Thriller genre would love this plot too.
It get more intense when the author decide to create an unbinding suspense. It's really a great work of fiction which keeps the reader curious after each page. -

The story starts with the death of sensational singer Debolina Mukherjee. She was found with an overdose of sedatives in her apartment. She lost someone close to her so it was quiet understood that she must be facing depression. Matters seemed easy or were they? - I had previously read Death Served Cold by this author and thought of giving a try to yet another crime thriller written by him. The Trail of Blood is based on an intelligent Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) named Agni Mitra. He receives an intriguing and beguiling case wherein Deboleena, a popular singer is found dead along with an unidentified body who had been shot in the head. An overdose of sedatives points toward the possible reason for the singer's death.
- As Agni digs deep into the shadowy past of Deboleena, shocking surprises come up. The stranger found along with her is another mystery that he is keen on solving. He is plagued with questions on how these two may be connected, and what was the common link?
- You would think it is a simple crime plot, and yet the author gives the story such twists that it is difficult to guess what may happen next, and that won my heart as this is what true suspense-crime novels are about. It is a mind-blowing journey of hatred, revenge, greed, poor decisions, and obsession.
- As the plot progresses I get hooked on the book. The author has clearly done intensive research on how things work in a homicide department. The scenes are described really well. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this well-written thriller book.
It is well-paced. The narration is gripping and enthralling. -
As I have mentioned earlier in my posts, I love crime mystery and such genres from the core of my heart and always try to finish it as soon as possible. But this habit of reading such kind of contents repeatedly,gives me an intuition of predicting the culprit. But this time I was fooled completely by this standard crime thriller by Sourabh Mukherjee.
A very popular singer named Deboleena Mukherjee is found dead due to overdose of sedatives but surprisingly another body of a completely unknown person is also found and guess what, the reason for his death is not sedatives, it's bullet, in the head.
The story begins with this kind of shock and anticipation starts from the very beginning. And oh God , as the story progresses ACP Agni Mitra takes the charges of investigation and as he dive deep into the mystery, plot twist and turns just blow my mind. So many shocking surprises and especially when the dots start to connect itself to the past, it's become impossible for me to stop.
well anything more than that would be a great spoiler so if you want to know what happened next? who's the man! What's wrong with their past! You need to grab a copy.
The storyline and plot is definitely hook you till the end. The effort of the author is quite ostensible. It's written in a lucid language and quite tough to predict the end. In a nutshell a good comprehensive read for all. -

ACP Agni Mitra stepped into this case. He started invistigation. He goes to the roots of the case to know who is that man & what's the connection between the two?
Author has turned each incidents into a beautifully written story. Each chapter also includes the follow up of the cases, trial and current status of the instigator of the crimes. Each story is highly detailed and can give a goosebumps image of the story too. Author has also included the references he has taken in compelling these stories. Some stories were damn scary. The storyline was gripping and the language used was quite lucid. The title matched the plot but the cover could've been better. Overall, it was a scary gripping thriller read. I would recommend it to the readers who love crime, thriller genre.

This book is about murder case of two persons a famous singer deboleena and unknown man at her home with a bullet mark on his head. Where deboleena is died by taking overdose of sedative and the unknown man also had taken the same but just the difference is that he is shot by someone on head also.
The case was getting investigated by ACP Agni Mitra. Just like he is getting deeper and deeper in the case we get to know so many secrets, the past, and how this case is linked with past case. So many twist and turns!
Who did this? How did they get the sedatives? Why only the unknown man was shotted? Who is behind all this? What is ther reason of doing?
For getting all the answer you must read the book! And I promise you will not be disppointed after reading this.
From the start to the end I didn't felt bored even a bit. It's kept getting intresting more n more. The narration of the book were done so well. I felt like I am watching a movie.

When you read murder mystery book there is no way that you don't start your guessing game bcos that is what I do I start guessing and linking the event and creating theories of my own and when some of them came out correct I start dancing in joy🤭 the same I did here and that's the my most fav thing to do when reading thriller mystery. -

Author's writing is an easy read and quite enjoyable. Each and every chapter rises curiosity - what would happen in the next chapter and climax was unbelievable. It was a nice story. The title has been given aptly by the author.
The book is a page -turner and a must read,according to me.
A book that completely absorbed me. Perfect murder mystery. It's difficult to put down the book until the mystery is solved.
