But this time, the man behind the mask won’t stop until she is his.
She is my muse, and I am her demon of music.
A year ago, I witnessed sweet Scarlett Day’s dark side. She’s been my obsession ever since.
I was content with being her secret. Content with protecting her from afar… until an enemy from my past sets his sights on her.
Our families have a deep history of hatred, and Scarlett is caught in the middle.
Meanwhile, her mind plays tricks on her. When a panic attack goes horribly wrong, I emerge from the shadows to save her.
Now that she’s mine, I can’t let her go.
I’ve mastered the darkness. She tempts me with her light.
But when my mask is gone, will she fear the monster underneath?
PHANTOM is a spicy story set in modern-day New Orleans and a complete STANDALONE in the Tattered Curtain series. Guaranteed HEA.
Trigger Warning: complications with mental health (FMC has bipolar disorder type one), dementia, severe psychotic depression, conversations about suicide; dubcon between MCs; physical violence, murder, torture (not between MCs), reference to SA, reference to CSA; loss of a father; substance misuse; stalking

This was a Outstanding retelling of the Phantom of the Opera!!!! Greer Rivers is a amazing writer and her storytelling is phenomenal!!!! I've loved the phantom of the Opera since I was a young girl and to have not only the story take on a different slant and add a beautiful haunting tale of obsession and passion and unbelievable hot steamy sex scenes its every girls dream come true! Especially if she's into dark anti hero's like me! Sol might be disfigured from a kidnapping that left his father dead and him scared over a decade ago and it has made him not only wear a mask but live in the darkness under the city and yes he's the phantom of New Orleans and him and his shadows are feared by those who would harm anyone that they consider family and while his justice is final he lives by a code of fight or die and he rarely loses! I adored Sol !! He is a very dark fantasy but one I would pick time and time again. I loved Scarlett so much! Her vulnerability and her dealing with her mental health from having a condition called bipolar pulled at my heart and I couldn't help the pain I felt in my heart for her. The writer wrote her with so much emotion that at times it made me cry. Especially her fear of having another manic episode and ending up locked away in some psych ward. Every day is a fight to stay sane and the medicine and her best friend jamie being their and her secret demon of music sending her music shes doing better but when her medicine disappears everything she thinks she knows changes and it forces her demon of music to come out of dark to save her.The chemistry and passion between Sol and Scarlett is delious and beautiful and full of sensuality and the writers atmospheric and darkly rich detail in the surroundings makes it very hot!!! I don't want to say much more about the book because it would ruin it. But this book has the feels of one of those gothic romances that I adored as a young girl ! Theirs mystery, suspense, betrayal, flaming passion, obsession and a love that will last forever!!! And I hope to read more like this from this fabulous writer!!! Theirs a certain shadow named sabine that I would love to get her own book in this world! And I just want to say that Rand the golden boy made my skin crawl from the beginning! What a fucking dick face this guy is!!! He's a fucking douche bag and while the face was handsome he was the true monster. Until next time Luv's💕💋

4.5 🌟
“Is madness so terrible, when euphoria is on the other side?”
“It is when you lose yourself in it and it makes you behave in ways you never would otherwise.”
“Isn’t that the definition of love?”
WHERE WAS SOL BORDEAUX MY WHOLE LIFE!?!?!?
“Are you my demon of music? Or the Phantom of the French Quarter?”
“I am your Sol.”
This man. 😭
Idek where to start. This was just so goooooood. I loved everything about it- the aesthetic, the characters, the spice. THE FUCKING SPICE 🥵
I liked Scarlett. But she tested my patience so many times, especially with Rand. Also I wanted her to grovel more. But then Sol had to go and say-
“Beg for it.”
AND I WAS DONE FOR. -
4.5 Stars
Phantom of the Opera retelling that’s better than the original because this time it’s actually Phantom who gets the girl! And he’s a sexy, obsessive, mask-wearing beast who ticks all the panty-melting, morally grey, anti-hero boxes—except his first name, cause for some reason I’m not hot on the name Sol, which is short for Solomon.“I’m not good, little muse. My obsession with you is the only pure thing about me. Never forget that I’m your demon of music, Scarlett. You can’t expect me to behave like a gentleman when you beg like my whore.”
I loved the duality/paradoxes in Sol’s characterization. It’s like he’s... dark (cutthroat with everyone), but he’s all kinds of soft and tender with Scarlett (protective, possessive, and so attentive). While at the same time, there’s a bit of yearning and pining cause he’s not sure Scarlett will accept him if she knows his truth; yet, he’s determined to never let her go.
He’s also self-conscious about his scars/disfigurement. Not because he’s vain, but because he thinks it symbolizes his and his family’s weakness for letting someone/their enemy got the better of him (even though the incident that caused it happened when he was only 15). Meanwhile, when he’s in the bedroom... damn, the kinks... I don’t mind if you use them all on me, Sir. LOL.
Scarlett, on the other hand, might annoy some readers cause she’s a little naive and gullible when it comes to Rand (the rival love interest/OM). It makes you want to squeeze and shake her, but can you blame her? Rationally, who’d you trust more between your stalker (Phantom) and your childhood friend? I think her mistake was understandable.
Scarlett has type one bipolar disorder, which I’ve never found in all the romance books I’ve read. So the rep was refreshing and interesting. I feel like it played a huge part in Scarlett’s identity at the beginning of the book, but after Sol’s involvement, it just sorta fade into the background? Like he’s making her more stable, which Idk if it’s realistic, but who cares?
The mafia plotline reminded me of the feuding family conflict in Romeo and Juliet, and I really enjoyed it. The only thing that was a bit too cringe/corny for me was all the music element. Like, this girl was freakin ~s I n G i N g~ (well, I guess she hummed 🤔) a song while she was choking and giving Sol a blowjob. I was honestly confused if the author was being metaphorical or literal.“I loved you when you were only music sheets, roses, and letters. You’ve been here for me longer than I ever knew. I never want to let you go again. I want to be yours.”
Overall, I loved this book. It was spicy; and, when it wasn’t, the romance gave me the best kind of zing-zap, electric shock sensation in my chest. I HIGHLY recommend this. I read the
Cat and Mouse duet by H.D. Carlton prior to this one, and I heard that it was quite popular on TikTok? Which was absurd cause this book should’ve been THE TikTok sensation.
P.S. Lots of trigger warnings for this book. Read the Goodreads blurb to find out. -
Our story begins after Scarlett Day is promoted from understudy to lead in Romeo and Juliet.
Having made a home in the tunnels of the prohibition-era speakeasy below the Bordeaux Conservatory of Music, Sol Bordeaux lives his life in the shadows. When his ma jolie petite muse becomes endangered, his obsession draws him out.
Phantom masterfully weaves the tough subject of mental health through a suspenseful dark retelling of Phantom of the Opera with a HOT mafia-esque spin. I can’t wait to see what Greer has in store for the rest of the series!

Let the music free you from the darkness in your mind...
Sigh...I have no words...this book honestly surpassed all my expectations and combined so many elements I love: a great storyline, mental illness rep, tension, scorching chemistry, hot spice, and gothic vibes
SOL BORDEAUX, where have you been my entire life?
He is ott, dark and so fucking obsessed with his little muse, Scarlett.
Sol is what I want when I'm looking for an obsessed Hero!!!!“My little muse is my addiction, and her voice is my drug. If there is a cure to my madness, I don’t want it. I’d rather welcome blissful oblivion”
Scarlett was a great FMC, and her trying to manage her mental illness resonated with me extremly.
She is the light to the Phantoms shadow but has her own darkness inside.“You’re my pretty little muse, Scarlett. I worship your voice. Your body, mind, and soul are no different.” “Even the darkness in my mind?” I ask, not sure why it matters if my phantom accepts my madness. “Especially your darkness.”
This is a twisted, captivating, and spicy story, and I urge you to read it!!!

Obviously this is a mafia retelling of the Phantom of the Opera, and I will be honest, I don't know much about the original story or the later movies/retellings. Just had a vague idea of what to expect..
I had a few issues with the pacing in this book and the FMC - Scarlett. She did test my patience so many times and it got to the point where I didn't even get shocked when she made bad decisions. She trusted Rand too much, especially when revealing he was 17? when she was 12 and touching her inappropriately and the fact he was interested in her and kept referring to them as childhood sweethearts. She should have woken up and realised how gross his actions were and stepped back from the trust. ESPECIALLY since they had not seen each other in 10 years? You don't need to be loyal to him....
Ran was just sending off so many red flags from the moment he is introduced and I’m glad it was proven despite his constant attempt to look innocent.
Sol? I really liked him. He was broken and filled with darkness after the torture he went through at 15. He was absolutely destroyed by Rand's older brother....the things he endured and was done to him was so disturbing.
My heart hurt for him when he forgot his mask in front of her and he felt her horror show but Scarlett later explained it was the horror of what was done to him and not what he looked like.
He was OTT and obsessed with Scarlett. He was making sure she was safe and kept her from harm from herself and her illness. I loved the length he went through to make sure she was healthy and protected.
The side plot about her father and his mysterious death was fun to unravel. Especially when it's revealed that Scarlett was the one to kill the assassin and Sol was the one to get rid of the body right after when she was passed out.
I was actually intrigued by Sol's brother and his story with his wife and wished we had gotten more info? Unless they are from previous books? but I don't think so. -

-
These kinks deserved a better book.
I rest my case. -
Re-read: I'm bumping this up to a 5 star because I also want someone to call me "my muse" and write songs only for me. SOL YOU ARE THE STANDARD.
***
"My life was pitch black before you. You were the moonlight to my midnight."
I love it when I find hidden gems that turns out to be unexpected amazing reads, and this book is exactly just that. Sol is this deliciously dark obsessive hero that got me rooting for him from start to finish. The way he was boy obsessed over Scarlett?? He would kill for her and lay down his life for her. THAT'S THE KIND OF OBSESSION I'M TALKING ABOUT.
Also there's a slight tinge of suspense/mystery aspect to this which also heightened the feeling of not being able to put this book down.
I loved Sol and Scarlett together. They had chemistry and personality, they didn't feel like 2 dimensional characters which I appreciated.
Although I must say, this is the first time I've ever read a book with wax play in it. Can't decide if I love it or hate it, but I was kind of uncomfortable with that scene so maybe I don't like the idea of it.
Anyways, I loved this! Such an unexpected read, but it was everything I wanted. -
4.5 Stars
WOW. this book was absolutely amazing! I was not expecting so action from this book. I love the atmosphere in this book and that it took place in New Orleans. I loved the characters and the story told! -
☾⋆。°✩・:*:。 Oh this was so fun! Thank you Giselle for recommending this to me. You know me so welllllll.
Phantom is a Phantom of the Opera dark romance retelling set in an opera house/conservatory of music. It's also a mafia romance because the hero is an enforcer of his family who rules half of New Orleans. He has become obsessed.... OBSESSED... with the heroine from the very first time he saw her. He's been stalking her and sending her cute little notes, sheet musics, playing the piano for her through the pipes, etc. You know cute things lmao! This book is def a stalker romance as well... so take that into consideration if you do start reading it.
I love that this series is all about tragic plays turned into happily ever afters. So, this is Phantom of the Opera and the next book in the series is Moulin Rouge! That's so intriguing and I'm definitely game for the next book.
This book does have questionable scenes that many people won't like. I am on the fence about them, but when I think about my overall thoughts about this book it definitely deserves a four-star rating. It was entertaining, so many steamy scenes (omg!!!!), and the way that Sol was completely captivated, obsessed, in love with Scarlett *chef kiss* You know I prefer when the heroes are down on their knees for their love interests, and yeah this one has it. Though Sol tries to be all calm and collected, when he is behind closed doors, he's the one who flirts, smiles, and jokes around Scarlett. She's his light in the darkness! HIS MUSE! -
This was my first ever Greer Rivers book and wow... I'm surprised I haven't picked up a book by her, her writing, storytelling, depth, and vividness was phenomenal!
Sol and Scarlett are meant to be together before they even realize they are. Seems as if they were already together and soulmates before this book was written.
Sol if very, very, very OTT, possessive, obsessive, and sexy. That man will make kindles get HOT!
Scarlett that poor girl, suffering through everything, her mental sufferings are heartbreaking, I feel her pain and anguish when she deals with her meltdowns and her mind is her own worst enemy; but she deals and copes and she is one of the most strongest FMC I've read to date.
This was an outstanding book and I loved to be able to get out of my own reality and escape to this world because it was an EPIC ride. So many emotions and feelings in this book; took me for a roller-coaster ride and whirlwind of emotions. -
"your darkness called to mine. my life was pitch black before you. you were the moonlight to my midnight."
i was afraid that after building up this book in my mind ever since i first saw the blurb it wouldn't live up to my idea of it. but it surpassed every expectation i had; it made me love the original story even more while finally making right by the misunderstood, morally gray antagonist, phantom. the almost gothic atmosphere, the new orlean setting was hauntingly comforting in its madness (for the originals fans out there, this was giving klaus mikaelson). i loved how the fmc wasn't always the most reliable narrator and how it had nothing to do with her mental illness, but rather the darkness mirrored between the couple. just wished the "mafia" element to it was more prominent. -
Rating: 2 stars
Wtf was that… I’ll admit, the beginning was very good and there was a lot of potential but once Scarlett finally discovered Sol, everything just went downhill.
Scarlett might be one of the dumbest FMC I have ever read. Not only did she almost automatically start trusting a man who has been stalking her and invading her privacy for a year, she’s so fucking stupid when it comes to Randal too. It was also all so insta-love and there was no tension or slow burn.
I expected the poor romance to be combated with a decent plot, but no. Not only was the reveal totally predictable, it wasn’t even enticing.
The spice was also okay, there was really only one or 2 scenes that were pretty hot. -
3.5 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
“You’re my pretty little muse, Scarlett. I worship your voice. Your body, mind, and soul are no different.”
“Even the darkness in my mind?” I ask, not sure why it matters if my phantom accepts my madness.
“Especially your darkness.”

22-year-old Scarlett Day is a senior-student at the Bordeaux Conservatory of Music, located in the New French Opera House. She won a scholarship and secured a place after her Father's passing and has been a student for a year since then.
The New French Opera House is owned by the Bordeaux family, one of the two families [Chatelains] who own everything in New Orleans. The Opera House has also been their home.
Both families have a centuries-long blood feud and an attempt at truce was marred by a tragedy that struck the Bourdeauxs.
That tragedy marked the beginning of the legend of the mad Phantom of the French Quarter.
Darkness is drawn to darkness and once the Phantom recognized the darkness in Scarlett, he could not let her go.
But how can a creature of darkness seduce an angel of light? Music.
For she is his beautiful muse.
And he is her demon of music.
My little muse is my addiction, and her voice is my drug. If there is a cure to my madness, I don’t want it. I’d rather welcome blissful oblivion.
I adored the romance and the chemistry between Sol and Scarlett was SCORCHING! I only wish Scarlett's feelings for him were not rushed.
While the romance is the main focal point, there is an overarching plot that is picking up mystery threads from the past to lead us towards shocking revelations and ugly truths. It lent the story some mystery and suspense even if it was a tad predictable.
This is a great spicy read especially if someone is in the mood for a hot dark romance.

Let's just uh... go ahead and put her on hold 💀☝️🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️.
LET ME EXPLAIN 😭💀😭☝️-
I wanted to love this book so bad you don't understand- I love the Phantom of the Opera, and LOVED Sol in this book- but man the heroine 😭😭😭.
I really didn't have to patience to watch the h miss the most obvious clues in the book, considering a big part of it was a mystery- it was painful.
I just got so frustrated and apparently, it gets even worse later on so imma just stop now 😭. I definitely was expecting more from the romance, and wasn't too big on how it played out (up to where I was in the story) - I was so tempted to skim this for the smut 🥸- but I'll refrain from that in case I want to get back to this.
Maybe I'll pick this one up again in the future 💀🤡🧍♀️. -
"If the eyes are a window to a man’s soul, then my demon of music has starlight in his dark depths."
Ahhhhh loved it, Chefs kisses 💋💋 ❤️🤌
I think EVERYONE deserves their own phantom of the French quarter, their own demon of music. 😫 💃 🕺
Sol was literally the BEST, he carried the whole damn story on his back. I admit, I haven't been a fan of other books by Greer rivers, well one I unfortunately dnf, BUT this one was so beautifully done. It was so beautiful to read and I just felt so privileged to be able to read such a great love story. Yes I do have to say, I didn't approve of Scarlett, the hs' actions at one point of the story because I just felt so fiercely protective over the H, Sol. So this was a strong 4.5 🌟 for me. But they were so good together and I loved it. -
3.5 stars:
"But don’t you fucking dare give yourself an orgasm. Do you hear me? That’s my job from now on."
Yes.
I picked that quote over something inspiring or heartfelt because I am not going to pretend & tell you the plot was fantastic. The romance was really good, tho. THE SPICE…very acceptable (once it eventually got there).
Let me throw some tropes at you, my lovelies:
- Dark romance.
- Stalker, man obsessed.
- Touch you die literally.
- Mafia.
- BDSM.
- Praise kink.
I won’t talk much about the FMC because frankly she turned too irritating for me near the end. Watching her try to piece together the mystery was like watching a pantomime and shouting "he's behind you" to the actors on the stage - I know some people are not the smartest BUT. WOW.
The plot twists weren’t really twisting. The suspense was not really suspending, either.
THE MALE MAIN CHARACTER (Sol) WAS SO HOT THO.
Overall: I was impressed by how quickly I got into the book :) the romance was a slow build and gratifying BUT I feel like the author used smut scenes as filler for when the plot got so boring. -
i've always loved the Phantom of the Opera as a kid and reading this was literally a fever dream. i liked it enough to read it not once. but twice. this book altered my brain chemistry. i wasn't expecting to like it as much as i did, yet here we are. safe to say this book changed my life.
-
New to me author and totally enjoyed this it’s a contemporary take on the phantom of the opera which I also happen to love and it was so well done. This takes place in New Orleans and is dual POV. Our heroine Scarlett is twenty-two and is a junior attending The Bordeaux conservatory where she is training to become an Opera Singer. After a challenging year, Scarlett is now medicated and coping with a diagnosis of Bi-Polar. Her father a travelling musician was also murdered the previous year which again contributed greatly to her descent into darkness.
Watching her from the shadows is Sol Bordeaux whispers surround him and he is known as the Phantom an elusive ghost of an individual that is more legend than fact. His own past is heavily steeped in tragedy and as he watches over his muse from the shadows he only manages to fall deeper under her mesmerising spell.
Caught in a conflict between two rival families Scarlet will now have to decide just who she can trust the returned friend from her childhood or her mysterious new benefactor who also seems to know so much about her.
This had some brilliant chemistry and had an almost gothic vibe despite it being a contemporary read. I adored Sol and appreciated his obsessive worship of Scarlet, he was such a brooding dark character a real tortured hero with a rigid moral compass. Sol is the punisher and he is the accused final reckoning. Scarlet was definitely a great leading lady though a little naive and I did wish she would stop being so innocent and see a certain person for exactly who they were. She definitely believed exactly what she was told and allowed herself to be played.
Overall this was a fabulous experience and i definitely recommend especially if you appreciate loosely based retellings. Having a phantom of the opera one which I’ve never experienced before totally made my year.

Sinceramente pensé que no me iba a terminar gustando, pero todo lo contrario, es una buena historia y una buena trama.
Aunque siento que tuvo muchas escenas 🔥 muy innecesarias al final fue buena. -
My first time in the USA was New York, the whole felt like a movies setting and of course I couldn’t miss experiencing Broadway, the performance I picked was the Phantom of the Opera, I should have seen something brewing in the mind of my younger self; needless to say it was a magic experience, I still keep the booklet I bought and of course the ticket as a precious memento.
~𝑴𝒚 𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍 𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒗𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒌𝒔. 𝑰 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒆~
The particular show has always held a special meaning, therefore I was eager to dive into a retelling! My giddiness increased as soon as I read the author’s introduction to the story, everything suddenly took on a whole new important meaning.
~𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒐 𝒐𝒇 𝒎𝒚 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒃𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒂𝒔 𝒈𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒂𝒅𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒐 𝒕𝒐 𝒗𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒊𝒔 𝒅𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒊𝒕 𝒆𝒇𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒍𝒚 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒑𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒈𝒂𝒛𝒆~
Told in dual POV, I enjoyed the take the author gives to the the story, I also liked the layout, the story is divided into acts and scenes like just like a play. The setting is as eerie as the real show and it gave me the same darkish, shiver inducing vibes. Sol is a real anti hero who will make your heart throb and panties melt, Scarlett didn’t stand a chance when presented with such force. The way Sol acts isn’t fair and to some may appear overbearing, I personally love it, his possessive obsessed persona called to my inner soul like a true mermaid’s chant. Consider me spell bound.

Phantom is part of The Tattered Curtain series. All books can be read in any order and are standalones inspired by classic stories and stage productions. Phantom is a dark and spicy retelling of Gaston Leroux’s Phantom of the Opera with stalking elements (𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝘀𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗻) set in modern-day New Orleans. -
EXCUSE ME???? “If you stay, I promise to give you the best love story ever told, every day, for the rest of our lives. I was forced into the shadows, and I’ve made my home here. But I’ve only ever wanted to share a life with someone. Like my parents shared. The kind of love that consumes you in life and leaves you a shell when the other goes too soon. I used to feel sorry for my mother, but some days she gets to escape to a world where the love of her life still exists. He’s not just a phantom, he is her everything. I want to be that for you, with you. I want one love that survives this lifetime.”
This was beautifully written, beautifully portrayed and beautifully spiced. I read it in one go, and I wanted more of them.
I think the bipolar disorder representation was great, and I can only hope and believe the author has found her peace within her own diagnosis too. -
“When she laughs, I imagine shoving my cock down her throat, sparkling tears glistening down her gorgeous face until I come.”
This is the very first sentence in the hero’s perspective. 😵💫Jebus, authors, FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS HOLY, find some new material.

I love Phantom of the Opera, and this retelling was brilliant. It was so fun to read, with a mystery to solve, and figuring out who is REALLY the bad guy, and ohhhh don’t get me started on the spice. Was it every spicy. Like 4 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ level and definitely 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ :) For my dark romance people, this is definitely for you.
And it was written so well, the author has a way with words. I will have to read other books by her for sure! -
i adore the aesthetic and the plot of the books!
sol and scarlett have such a unique love story and i loved every moment of it!!
i wish the epilogue was longer or there was an extended epilogue but either way i rly rly rly loved this book! -
Dios que buen libro, me encantan los personajes, Sol
y Scarlett se merecen el cielo LOS ADORO.
que mejor manera de terminar el año con este libro jejeje -
Dark phantom of the opera retelling that I didn’t even know I needed. Dark scarred H,virgin opera singer h. Got exactly what I thought I would.
It took me a minute to get into the story, I did a lot of skimming in the first half. But once the main conflict was in place I was more interested.
If you like your love interest morally grey and possessive you probably will enjoy Sol. -
DNF at about 70~%
So the phantom of the opera is one of my favourite musicals of all time, but every time I try to read something around that musical I just can't stand it. I quite liked the first 30% or so but after that once the Phantom had Scarlett in his 'grip' I was just bored of their lack of chemistry and boring chit-chat. Idk, the writing and story just didn't do it for me. I am using this second attempt failure at a POTO re-telling as a sign to not ruin the musical for me from now on.
Don't get me wrong, everyone else might love it, but it just wasn't 'it' for me. -
Phantom is a dark retelling of the Phantom of the Opera. This was my first book by this author and I will most definitely be working on Greer’s backlist now. I’ve been searching for a great dark romance for months and this is the first to hit all the marks.
Sol is dark, mysterious, damaged, and he loves to stalk Scarlett. He is soft only for her and won’t stop until she belongs to him. Scarlett has a mind that she is still learning to control and a dark secret she hasn’t told anyone.
“I’m not good, little muse. My obsession with you is the only pure thing about me.”
I absolutely LOVED the world this story was set in. I lived near New Orleans for a year of my life and playing this story out in my head there was perfection. I just want Sol to walk me through his home to make sure I pictured that correctly. 🤪
Any-who, I will be recommending this book for a long time to come. I could go on and on about everything I enjoyed about this. Read TWs if needed and I think this goes without saying, 5 dark stars from me.
“Sometimes happiness is just happiness, ma Jolie petite muse. There’s no need to second-guess it. Just enjoy it”
